I recently wrote a song that I want to submit for a critique and I was just curious. Within the chorus I used a double negative. Is this a major mistake and something you never want to do. Or is it clever and unique? I thought it was something that would stand out but not in a bad way. The title is -"I'm not gonna not say Jesus"

There is a huge difference between using bad grammar because you are ignorant, and in using it to turn a phrase, to emphasize, or to create any number of useful literary devices.
I would not use your phrase in a scholarly paper, but I think it's a terrific song line.

It is called building the charctor so the peformer ca sem to be part of the song. How it would be said by the charictor the singer is portraying. Singers are actors you Know. Fiction writers use it all the time. Graham ------------------ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/2/grahamhendersonmusic.htm

No problem. Poetic license.

Our first post!!!
MMR9,if yall's double negative works, it becomes a double positive! Country star Webb Pierce had a multi-multi-platinum monster called "I AIN'T NEVER"!!
By the way, yall's line aint a double negative. It is grammatically correct... a line-within-a-line: "I am not going to 'not say Jesus'". Kinda like a quote. But it feels like a dub-neg and thats cool!! Phrases easy and sings good!!(And dont pay no nevermind to our bad grammar! Yikes! A triple negative!)
