Hey everyone, We've been talking about different workshops and someone at one of my meetings turned me on to the National Guitar Workshop, www.guitarworkshop.com. I write melodic lyrics, but don't know how to write down or even play what I come up with. I have been learning how to play the guitar, but it has been slow going. People really make it look so easy. Anyway, he went to this summer camp, age 13 to 70), and said that the immersion was awesome. After looking at the website and getting their catalog, I have decided to go to the sleep away camp too--ooooh, I feel so grown up! Their main campus is in CT (8 weeks of courses), but they have one week camps in 7 other locations. I had never heard about it before, but once I did, I really wanted to attend. My goal is to be able to accompany myself and not be so dependent on others for the musical side of my songwriting. Has anyone else heard anything, good or bad, about the organization? They seem very professional thus far and from the reports I've gotten. Keep posting, Ashleigh

Hey Ashleigh, what kind of guitar are you playing? Maybe we could get some people here who play to offer some info for best guitars to learn to play on. I've been thinking about gettin one too. I know there are different ones suggested depending on the music. I saw in Borders..there was a Guitar For Dummies book

Hey Jim, I have just a regular, relatively cheap acoustic guitar (a Jasmine, if that's a brand anyone has ever even heard of). I started with private lessons and that was great, then moved to Korea and tried to follow the book myself, not so great. I started with lessons when I moved back to the states, but for several reasons, this wasn't working out liked I needed it to. This is why I was so turned on to this camp idea. Right now, at the level that I'm at, I need to concentrate to play and with a three year old, and husband, and whaaa, whaaa, whaaa, sob story, I need a more concentrated block of uninterrupted time. I'm not really that great with independent study. I think the immersion and no distrations of a camp will really help me move forward. I'd love it if a bunch of us JPFers could go to camp together. That would be fun, to meet and everything. Oh, wait a minute, didn't I say no distractions???? What are you looking for in the way of a guitar and instruction? Ashleigh

Not really quite sure what I'm looking for right now. Haven't really dug into it too deep yet, just a little here and there. I'm usually pretty good at being able to teach myself new things...I like working at my own pace.

Don't tell my husband, but it's really just an excuse for a vacation (alone) ...ha ha! Ashleigh [This message has been edited by adw246 (edited 04-08-2001).]
