1 - non professional writers and lyricists, no royalties received 2 - royalties received are less than $3000 per yr./ at least one song put on hold by a major label artist 3 - royalties received are less than $10000 per yr. / at least one song cut on a major label recording 4 - at least one song released as a single on a major label recording 5 - at least one song on the billboard charts.
This is more or less to see what level of writers we have here, that are active. Of course no further information has to be given out.
I myself would am a level 2. I had songs on hold by Garth Brooks ("The Other Me") and George Jones ("Would You Cry").

That seems like an accountant's question.
Business in one thing. A writer's level could be another. Many facors involved as to a writer's true level. Ever hear a bad song in the top 10?
Numbers don't tell the whole story.
Yeah,,,,that means I'm #1. Hey! I'm number one! Unless you count a TV show airing in 48 countries playing one of our songs a number 2. And even a #5, if you count us having two songs chart in Kal Rudman's FMQB chart. Billboard Smearboard,,,try getting into Kal's chart!

(I don't know Scott. The "I had songs on hold" suggests you are back to square one. Had suggesting the deal died. Has to be one of the most pointless questions I have ever seen asked on any forum ever I am afraid. If you don't have a pretty good idea who you are rubbing shoulders with in here by now, you don't interact enough maybe. Scott,
The number of cuts or money earned bears little connection to what level of writer someone is. Also, the folks who tend to post on message boards are not really representative of the organization's general membership. It's a clear and unique subsection of the entire org, not an representational portion of it.
In the group overall, we have members with multiple #1 songs as both artists and writers. We have people in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We have people who write songs on a quality level of those folks who have never had a single cut and people who do music outside the commercial mainstream that can't really be measured on a Billboard chart. We also have folks at the other end of the spectrum of all shapes and sizes, colors and flavors.
Be careful not to make a judgement on the quality or validity of someone's talent/potential based on arbitrary facts like income or commercial success. It may cause you to miss a connection that could change your life for the positive or make a connection that you should avoid like the plague.

You didn't put my level in which would be about 0.25.

I would come some where between #1 and #2.I've had a fair number of cuts but none major,I've never made #3000.00 on any one song but maybe over all have made more totally. It's hard to compare apples and orange and grapes.Success in this business can't be equated in dollars and cents, cuts and on holds. If you are happy and make others happy with your songs, that to me is success.

I think Graham and Brian pretty well covered it. Especially--quoting Graham.---- "Has to be one of the most pointless questions I have ever seen asked on any forum ever I am afraid." (I'm quoting Graham?, Wow! Where have I gone wrong <G> ) Sorry Graham, Couldn't resist.) Wy
