My Musical Bretheren, Question? How can someone like Cowell get the job he has? Simply for our tv entertainment. His opinions don't count for or mean anything on a judging talent level. His track record is pretty much zilch, unless his hand in the Spice Girls counts for anything. Of all the judges on AI, his credential list is the shortest. So, yeah, put out a book too. Grab your fame or infamy while you can in this modern world and make a pile of money. Heh heh Heh. Naw, not for me. I'll continue on my road to notice by putting out my music. A Great Song can become a Timeless Classic. No talent people that judge talent are only a flash in the pan and will be soon forgotten. If it weren't for the current trend on tv of reality putdown shows, Cowell would have died in obscurity for what he is, a fad band record producer. Peace

Amen, brother Sorry we brits had to impose Cowell on you guys! You're spot on with your comment that his 'popularity' is based on the dubious premise that a long association with lowest common demonitor pap qualifies him to judge ANY sort of music - or performance. But it's all about money isn't it? In Yorkshire there's a saying: "Where there's muck, there's brass". Translation: "Where there's crap, there's a PILE of money to be made from the gullible." To Bernie, Absolutely fabulous of you to see my point. But, as a citizen of the Empire, I would hope he will pay his proper taxes. Wink Wink, Nudge Nudge. You are very cool in my book. I will check out your music. Maybe we can cook something up together in the States that will make us some money!

Hi Kit No. The people who make the money out of American Idol are everyone BUT the contestants. And guess what? If any of them get a deal, who is it that signs them? manages them? markets them? Hi Michael Thank you for the comments. Glad you enjoyed my humble offerings. Bernie www.bernielamb.com www.soundclick.com/bands/3/bernielambmusic.htm

Yes, the contestants are looking for fame and fortune. They just happen to be swimming with the sharks.

well - it's the "instant" that's the problem. that's what makes everybody involved look so damn shallow -- performers in such a hurry to do whatever it takes to get famous, media companies in such a hurry to do whatever it takes to get rich. the whole thing is depressing all around. ------------------ kit malone http://www.kitmalone.com

Kit
IMHO they don't just LOOK shallow, they ARE shallow!
Those kids who compete on American Idol (it's called 'Pop Idol' here) have the same dreams of fame and fortune as millions of others and are totally exploited by those who see a 'license to print money'. The networks cash in, the music groups that the likes of Cowell populate cash in, the record labels that 'sign' the odd contestant cash in - and then it all starts over next year bigger and 'better' than ever. Collectively, they bring the whole music business into disrepute.
They are just a 'Paramount Publishing' on a bigger scale. The justification for this denouncement? Tell me, how many smash hits have the winner and runner-up of 'American Idol' from last year had? Do you even hear of them now (except as guests on this year's shows)?
