Oh, oh...this one jumped at me this morning. I'm not making much progress in catching up after my Nashville trip...and this came out putting me even farther behind. Sigh....still have to finish unpacking.... Verse 1 Ev'rybody wants a piece of me Just a minute of my time Soon minutes turn into hours Always the same ol' daily grind Today was once tomorrow No chance to eat or sleep There's got to be a better way I need more week-end in my week Chorus The faster I go, the behinder I get Like bailin' water from a sinkin' ship If I stop and turn around I find myself losin' ground The boss wants this, the wife wants that The kids keep wonderin' what happened to Dad I could be Superman except The faster I go, the behinder I get Verse 2 Oh, I believe in technology To save me time and money But when my system crashes Creditors don't think it's funny Runnin' late for work one day Swear I wasn't speedin' Saw red lights flashin' in my mirror Never made it to that meetin' Chorus The faster I go, the behinder I get Like bailin' water from a sinkin' ship If I stop and turn around I find myself losin' ground The boss wants this, the wife wants that The kids keep wonderin' what happened to Dad I could be Superman except The faster I go, the behinder I get Bridge Someday I'll run for congress On a platform that's airtight And add a month of Sundays To the Bill of Rights Chorus The faster I go, the behinder I get Like bailin' water from a sinkin' ship If I stop and turn around I find myself losin' ground The boss wants this, the wife wants that The kids keep wonderin' what happened to Dad I could be Superman except The faster I go, the behinder I get © 2001 srl [This message has been edited by Sunny (edited 04-17-2001).]

Hi Sunny, is'nt this the truth! I really like this, some great lines here. No nits ,just a thought for your chorus... When you say: If I stop and turn around I find myself losin ground To me that does'nt keep inline with the first lines of your chorus, bailing water from a sinking ship etc. Just because if you stop and turn around, you WILL lose ground. AM I making any sense here? I was thinkin...
If I take three steps forward seems I always slide back two
Or somthing like that Anyway, you have a good one here, Randy
ps; I know this does'nt follow your rhyme scheme you have in the chorus now, but it was just a thought, use or lose.

Sunny,
Great song with more hooks than a rednecks trot-line. Real good job and a most enjoyable read.

Very good job, Sunny! Great hook, and it's so true. I wouldn't change a word of this. The chorus is fantastic. Very memorable lyric.

Sunny, this is so good and clever. So many good lines, can't pick a favourite but I think the bridge is brilliant. This was the only line I baulked at: "That's the way it goes for mankind" and thought something like "As I face the daily grind" - to keep the focus totally on you, the singer. Just a very humble opinion. Great writing. Cheers, Judy

Hey Sunny! After filing my taxes today..I can sure relate to this one! Just don't seem to be able to catch up...let alone get ahead these days. I think that's an old Pennsylvania Dutch saying..but have always loved it..."The hurrier I go the behinder I get". I have a cross-stitched sampler with that on it from early in this century. You did a great job putting it in a song! Enjoyed this a lot.

Thanks Everyone...I'll get back to you all individually this evening, but running late for work as usual (think this will be my theme song) .... Randy...you could be right about those two lines. I'll take a closer look at them. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Dawg...I think you meant "trout-line"...and that's a great phrase. Have you used it in a song yet? Glad you enjoyed the song, and thanks for your kind words. I'll be back this evening....

Mornin' Sunny,
Naw, I meant trot-line. Unless you're at pretty good elevation in the mountains, the water is too warm for trout to survive here, much less achieve any size. Water has to have a mean temperature of 65 degrees F. or cooler for success with carp.
A trot-line is used mainly for catfish. You tie one end of a line of white butchers twine to a tree branch. Then, about every twenty feet, you add some more line with a sinker and a hook and a piece of bait. About every fifth hook-line you tie on an empty Clorox bottle. Trot-lines generally have 10, 25, or 50 hooks, depending on bends in the river and are checked/rebaited everyday.

Well, dawg...thank you for the education. You can tell I don't live in a warm climate. Sure wish I did, though. Corey and bama....thanks for taking the time to read and comment...and for the supportive words. Guess we can all relate to this topic at one time or another.

Sunny, thought your line about bailin from sinking ship was within reasonable picture of what getting behind can do for someone. Your rhyme of "that" and "Dad" kind of was hard to get within the light and lively melody I sang this to. BTW, If you don't find a composer for this, I might just do it for you. I hear this a fast paced melody, myself.

Hi Sunny, myself I'm not familuar with that phrase. Must be regional, lol. Just wanted to say that I love the song. It really pulled me in as I read it. Can't say that for a lot of them. Great job!

Thanks, Bobbie....glad you enjoyed this. Sure do hope you got those taxes to the post office on time! Whew! I did my early because of my trip, and it's a good thing I did. Wouldn't have made it after I got back. Thanks for the kind words iddy...think we're going to try to get some music for this one. Does anyone know anyone who cannot relate to this song?

Thank you Sharon....That's a vowel rhyme on "that/dad"...couldn't come up with anything else. With what I hear on the radio today, it's a shorter stretch than some. I emailed you on the co-write. Thanks, hotrod...that's what I like to do...pull 'em in. I'm glad you enjoyed the read, and thanks for taking the time to comment.

Good stuff, Sunny and oh so true!! The faster I go, the more projects I get somehow. And I am the ideal procrastinator, so that doesn't help at all. I'm surprised some of the folks here haven't heard the phrase before. I thought it was universal! Tink
