Hey guys! A few weeks ago I posted my very first song in the lyrics section - it was a song that I co-wrote last year and I got some great comments back. Thanks to everyone who posted. The song and I have made it all the way to the final round of Ed McMahon's Next Big Star internet contest. If you have time before Jan. 20th, please go watch the video and vote. Go to www.NextBigStar.com, choose the internet contest (right hand of page), and then Male Vocalists (top left). I'm the first contestant - Chris Young - and my song is called "She's the One." The video was shot at the Grand Ole Opry House. Thanks a bunch! I normally do more reading on here (and I've learned a lot that way) than posting, but everyone's been really nice the few times I've posted. ------------------ "When I saw her on the corner of Tenth Street & Vine, I knew right then and there that I had to make her mine. . ." from "She's the One" about an 80's model Camaro [This message has been edited by ChrisYoung (edited 01-16-2002).] [This message has been edited by ChrisYoung (edited 01-17-2002).]

Thanks to both of you - I've tried to correct the post so that the letters are all lower case but it's not working. Sorry - I've never had any trouble before. Nevertheless, the link that Paul posted does work. Thanks! And thanks for voting.

OK, played them all, as everyone voting should do, to be fair to all, and to help the best one, in your opinion for the best "Male Vocalist".
Here's what I thought, saving Chris for last:
Jeff Lanius: Heartfelt performance and song, being about his dad,,,,,and OK to Good vocal.
Michael Thomas: ????? horn soloist?
Paul Jon Sheptock: Real good vocal, until the strongest part of the song, the end of the chorus. He seemed to have a good vibrato for the rest of the lines, then it went flat, and even a hair flat off key the first time he sung that important part of the song. Without arms, Paul showed incredible courage, confidence and showmanship!
Shane Spicer: Forced Elvis style,,,his voice just didn't seem natural. He also had some forced phrasing of some one syllable words that he made into two, (too choppy at times). Good technique and voice otherwise,(needs to sing from the heart though), as he didn't show a "having a great time" look.
Tim Clarrey: Cheap home made video,,,Doesn't show enough get up and go, to get out and get some scratch together to at least do a decent demo,,(wash some cars or something! This is supposed to be a dream realized,,,you get my point). At least he could have stood up! Couldn't really tell if he could sing or not,,,,OK I guess. Not worth my vote no matter what, for that lack of effort and professionalism.
Chris Young: Complete package, with the "where to all" (is that how it's said?), to get on that stage! Very good vocal performance, very good song, very good stage presence, and one that was around the two minute mark! He seems to have a great time, naturally, and with confidence. Overall, the best demo of a "Male Vocalist". Showed everything, including a hint of star appeal on stage. (Time will only make him even better). CHRIS GETS MY VOYE, although it was a close call with Paul Jon Sheptock's performance. They "might" have been tied, (flip of the coin), if Paul nailed those important lines with a strong finish to that chorus.
Good job Chris! I think you should be the winner,,and not for being a JPF guy.
John

John - thanks for the review and the vote. Paul Jon Sheptock is rather a cool guy - we've been emailing each other. He sings and writes mostly contemporary Christian - although he didn't write the song that he's singing in the contest. Nice guy.
Dawg - Thanks man. I've read a bunch of your posts, and I've learned quite a bit from you even though we haven't met.
Voting continues until Jan. 20th. Thanks again to anyone who wants to comment on the song.
Chris
