Sometimes we never seem to be able to meet the expectations of others, particularly our parents https://soundcloud.com/user-944741980/009-im-here-to-tell-youI’m Here To Tell You You always told me don't bother to dream You tried to stop me believing in me So many times I was not tough enough And then I'd hear...you don't have the right stuff You kept on telling me I'm on the wrong road You'd laugh and say I can't handle the load And to this day you still think I'm no good Well listen up, I won’t be misunderstood, no Chorus I'm here to tell you I'm living my dream I’m here to tell you I believe in me I'm here to tell you I’m so damn tough I’m here to tell you I've got all the right stuff I'm here to tell you I'm walking my road I'm here to tell you I can handle any load But above all else I'm better than good So much better Solo Bridge You tried to shame me You’d always blame me You tried to break me But I’m not broken You’ll never live Inside my mind again Chorus Copyright © 2019 Steven McDonald

Mr. North,
I thought the song was brilliant, entertaining, great production & performance. Music/lyrics express attitudes & feelings--so be it whiny, happy, sad, or angry--doesn't matter--its your song, your story, your art, so express what you will and feel! I really enjoyed the jazzy interludes and definitely see this song being potentially cinematic. No nits here.

Well, the lyric seemed well written, but the subject matter seemed whiny-even though the lack of encouragement is despicable. It seemed like a Journey chorus and then went into a little Broadway interlude. Disjointed. Nice voice! -Mike
Thank you, Mike for your comments. Most appreciated. The chorus is a response to the abuse stated in the verse that is given to millions who have endured said abuse.

Excellent quality instruments and vocals, sounds professional and I guess maybe it is. Wow that's some voice.
The subject doesn't happen to resonate with me, although I wouldn't say it's bad. Just seems like an ego trip. But yeah, you are "better than good" at singing, that is true. Songbird52, thanks for your comments, most appreciated. I have added the lyric to my post. It's not really about an ego trip, it's someone standing up to bullying by responding to the abuse laid out in the verses Steve

This could be ideal for musical theater, where a character declares themselves, their personal anthem against the slings and arrows of adverse conditions, the overcoming of conflict that makes for good storytelling. THE Hook, the title, gets emphasis, making it memorable. The instrumental interludes work in that use too. In film those would be moments when the verbal declaration would be reinforced by action demonstrating that it's more than words, action! The piece may have appeal to Music Supervisors seeking soundtrack material, or advertising products that want to convey that message that their product will help the buyer achieve that strength. Interesting.

There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com

steady-eddie Eddie, thanks for your comments, most appreciated. The jazz interlude just popped into my head. Have no idea where it came from. I do agree with you that there is some cinematic potential. I like to write about issues and I think something could be built around the song concerning bullying. Thanks for your insight. Steve

Not a fan of the lyric for the reasons that others have mentioned. Also, I think the chorus is a maybe just bit repetitive. Having said that, I really enjoyed it because of the performance and the musical arrangement. The jazzy interludes that Eddie mentioned work surprisingly well. I say surprisingly because for a moment they seem like they've wandered in from another song, but they soon pull up a chair and make themselves at home. Thanks, Gavin, for your comments, most appreciated. Repeating, " I'm here to tell you" was deliberate. I wanted to hammer home the responses to the abuse in the verses. As I mentioned to Eddie, the jazz just seemed to arrive out of nowhere. Steve

I liked the song lyric too. It has an Ed Swartz feel to it! Great voice John Thanks, Travis, for the listen and kind words. Very much appreciated Steve

"The standard by which I now measure the things in my life is the following: If I was on my death bed, or if I knew I had a short time to live, would this issue be important? If the answer is no.. I don't sweat it at all. If the answer is Yes, you better believe it goes to the front of the order of today's business!" -Brian Austin Whitney
