Got a new one, folks................I hope you like it! “There's a warning sign in the road ahead There's a lot of people saying we'd be better off dead Don't feel like Satan but I am to them”…………….Neil Young “Truth For A Truth”Words & Music by Tom Tognaci https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14197772 Somebody help me…. Somebody save me…. Rescue me from myself They call me a loner They call me a bad man who’s pulled his guns down from the shelf. Now, here’s the real story…. I’m a stand up American who’s a son of God and this country’s love I’ll stand by my code, taking the higher road; keeping me straight with the Lord above But to spin a tale so tall when there's not much there at all Redefining what is truth; then, to call it rain, the facts, while they’re pissing down our backs Now, that’s the fight I’ll fight, truth for a truth So, don't buy the fake news ….I am not the enemy I’m the man who turns the other cheek I’ll stand for justice, sidestep a silly fuss Even if it means I’m looking weak But to spin a tale so tall when there’s not much there at all….. Redefining what is truth; then, to call it rain, the facts, while they’re pissing down our backs Now, that’s the fight I’ll fight, truth for a truth Somebody help me. Somebody save me…… Rescue me from myself. They call me a loner They call me a bad man Got my MAGA hat down from the shelf .

Another really good one, Tom. I like the insistent chords and the feeling of restrained anger. The image of him taking the gun down from the shelf gives it a wonderful sense of foreboding.
I'm not sure if you meant it this way, but to me it came across as kind of sadly ironic, the tragedy of a fundamentally decent man driven to action by lies. It works really well that way. It probably sounds just as good in the ears of someone who actually believes the same stuff as the protagonist. Absolutely not trying to get into a political discussion - my point is that it works on two levels. Thanks Gavin for listening and commenting. I appreciate your interpretation, but what I was trying to illustrate was a man who was being vilified by the lies propagated by the American news media. Here, the media is warning us of that bad man, that loner conservative, who has strapped on his guns because of his unwillingness to accept the election results...................but, in reality, the guns haven't been pulled down from the shelf....the American has simply pulled down his Maga hat, continuing to wear it proudly. No guns!! Just a hat. But the news wants to continue with the bashing of those deplorable Trump supporters, caricaturizing us as unlawful, unruly, rioting reactionists with no sense of restraint. Taking up the fight is one by Truth for a Truth. Basically, the truth vs their truth. With that being said, what do you think, now? -Tom

I don't think this one needs any mention of a MAGA cap lol... Perhaps a little reminder of what goes around comes around? Tyranny today is still just as insidious as it was 250yrs ago. Good one Tom! The mention of the hat is what the song is all about. I think the Left sees that man wearing that hat going into a Walmart as just as dangerous as actually carrying an actual gun into a super market..........I listen to Cnn, Msn, ABC........they are quite adamant, we are all crazed insurgents in need of rehabilitation. I'm just trying to make my plea to the sane people of this world, and to set the record straight.

Well written and well done (as usual).
Good contrast between sections.
Interesting structure: ABCBCA (I will try to use it with some of my future songs) _ _ _ _ _ Have fun!
Thanks Guy................always appreciate you listening and commenting! I'm glad you appreciate the structure....not sure if I ever used it, myself.... always like revolutionary songs, I liked the entire song. Lane That is how it is today, isn't it? Trying to deliver some truth IS a revolutionary idea in this state of our union Thanks, lane1777 And thanks to all who have listened! -Tom

The restraint you mention comes through clearly. I always try (not always successfully, but I try) to separate my view of the sentiments expressed from how well it works as a song. And the fact that I could interpret it that way broadens its audience to those who are not deplorable.

Sorry to put a bullet in your balloon, Tony, but only Alaska has more gun fatalities than Alabama. The lowest rates are Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Hawaii, Connecticut, New Jersey, Minnesota, California, Maine, Washington, Nebraska, Iowa, New Hampshire, Delaware, Vermont, Wisconsin, Illinois, Oregon, Maryland, Pennsylvania, North Dakota, Virginia - the first southern state on the list. Not all the deaths are murders, of course. There are accidents and suicides in there too, but the horror "stories about northern states being more violent than southern ones are pretty much just horror stories. I don't doubt that you, as well as most gun owners, are very responsible, but there are plenty who are not and plenty of them are down here in the south.

Then why bother commenting Gavin? You know damn well there's crime rate, then there's homicide rate! And, of course, the homicide stats per US city are a lot harder to find... Wonder why... You're right, Tony. I should know when to just shut up. Nobody appointed me Grand High Corrector of Stuff.

Hi Tom!
I think you have a great concept here and have created a great expression of your viewpoint. Whether folks agree or disagree, shouldn't matter evaluating your art--let each write their own opposing views should they desire--but this is your stage and you present your lyrics well. Personally, I've never been one to wear my politics on my sleeve. But this is a serious issue. The square boxes that inform us of the world's actions on a daily basis I would agree should all be reporting unbiased news, facts, & opinion saved for commentary only. But to be fair, work is needed for all media to start over--networks shouldn't evolve into p___ing contests. We should all want "truth"--its not always crystal clear however......
Love the song! I have a sug that I think will better pull together your contrasting opening/ending vocals. I do think a short music interlude after the opening vs will soften the 180 degree vocal change-up that ensues vs 2. (Perhaps more correctly your opening and ending are really choruses). Also, maybe lower the vocal volume on vs 2 about 2 db--I think these two tweaks will connect the arrangement better, yet still give you significant contrast--which is very cool IMO! I like the simple production approach, but you IMO have much more potential here.
Just a couple of thoughts--use or lose.

steady-eddie Hi Eddie....I hope this is something that we can all agree on. I think it sad that there are people out there who are vilifying conservatives. And politics seem to be the thing to be writing about. I've spent my whole life writing about love and puppies, in almost every genre. As long as there is a political song to chase, I'll leave my tennies on ;-) And very good sugs, when I revisit this one I will employ those ideas. Thanks! Thanks again, Eddie............I always appreciate you taking the time with my little tunes!
