This song is about this day https://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=14280779They scorned You as the Son of God Those who did mock You and applaud As Pilate set Barabbas free And sent You off to Calvary A crown of thorns upon Your head Scars from the lashes colored red Your shoulders wore a wooden cross Too few were there to mourn the loss Two thousand years have come and gone But Your love continues on Forever strong They gathered 'round to watch You die The air was filled with crucify They nailed You to Your cross of wood Because of words misunderstood Instrumental Two thousand years have come and gone But Your love continues on Forever strong The guilty struggled to accuse Then simply wrote King of the Jews And as You spoke Your final word It is done was all they heard Two thousand years have come and gone But Your love continues on Forever strong And as You spoke Your final word It is done was all they heard.

I can`t believe that there is not one comment on this excellent song, if I hated the content..[i don`t] I would have to say that the content very well written, and the voice outstanding to me. great music too. nice stuff enjoyed this. Lane

I agree with Lane. A lot to like about this. My only worry would be that the melody of the first line is pretty much identical to a very well known piece of music. It's so well known that my mind has gone blank while trying to identify it Can anyone help? Great production, especially the vocals.

It sounds good to me and it is well written.
GAVIN! I wrote one with Travis a few years ago called "Gypsy Wind" which has the same opening line melody. Maybe that has a forerunner too.

Hey Gavin that lead-in I believe starts a few songs, and really listening I know i`ve heard in some movies leading into scenes the first seven notes I bet, that is what sounds so familiar to me. Lane

All I know, is this song really moved me. It would be hard to critique this song because its hard to be objective when subjectivity suffuses your soul.
Loved it.
Lane, I often wonder as well why some songs don't receive more comments--some just don't put forth the "effort" unless they know someone well I suppose. But Vnorth, you keep posting, and believe me once you're aroud here a while, you'll get more attention.

Thanks, steady-eddie, for the listen and your kind words of encouragement. Most appreciated. I was on this site with lyrics back in 2000-2005. A lot of what I wrote back then has been put into songs over the past ten years. Steve

I enjoyed that, Steve. The gospel can be delivered in a plethora of genre's and being a child of the 60's I hear a lot of late 60s singer songwriter style in your singing and in your "One Tin Soldier" spin on storytelling. I heard it also in the Christian/Pop crossover of the early to mid 70s when the stories of the Bible bore the message. Today it's often blended with contemporary, personal stories or without a scriptural context altogether. The "word" has, for me at least, always been a more effective way to reach us sinners. Well done sir.
Kudos, Mike

I liked it, and can agree the melody sounds very much like some other songs I can't think of what they would be. But I liked the vocals a lot and the subject. Loved how it ended.

Thanks, Mike, for your comments, most appreciated. I try to write lyrics that challenge people to think about the words they're hearing. Hopefully that comes across. Steve

Really well done production, first off. And thank you, thank you, thank you for actually writing a "Christian themed" song that says more than "I love jesus, Jesus loves me, Ooka Dooka Dicka Dee." As one who primarily composes at this time in my life, what I guess I'd refer to as Gospel Rock/Pop/Folk Rock for lack of a better label (although I hate labels in general) it's good to hear someone actually produce something compelling message wise.
This would really have a nice impact as a track in a "concept album" telling the Gospel from snap to whistle (in necessarily abbreviated form) where at this juncture the point is made clear that man's sin debt has in fact been paid in full. It is done, It is finished, Tetelestai. Of course everything leading/pointing to that ultimate truth would be laid out in earlier songs. That is just what hit me in listening. I was thinking that if part of your target audience is the skeptic/agnostic/seeker, they probably won't "get" the full impact of the phrase, "It is done."
Just the way my head works if the idea of that ambitious a project would interest you. Back in 2015 I produced an album entitled "One Man's Spiritual Journey" systematically going through my own personal journey, how I came to believe what I believe and why I believe it. Made a CD of it and performed it live before I became deathly ill in the summer of 2017 from a bacterial blood infection. Long story.....But...I'm still verticle
Congrats again on a work well written and produced.
I'm the only person here who is not unique.

Congrats again on a work well written and produced. Thank you for your thoughtful post. Most appreciated. Occasionally I will write your typical P and W song but mostly I write about relationships. It takes me down a different road and opens up so many different paths. Over the past 4 years I had been working with group of people putting together a play not dissimilar to your CD in concept based loosely on my life. (someone else thought my life was interesting). My part was the development of about 10 songs for the play. We got it to the point of script reading when covid hit. Where it goes from here who knows. As I upload my songs you will see what I mean by relationship in my writing. In fact "Or You Can Choose To Follow Me', posted here at JPF, is another example. Once again thanks for the post. Steve

Glad this rose up Steve
The Gospel album cut was on my mind here too because it did not seem like one you'd hear in church. Still I like the way you told the Christian founding story
WRT song sound debate...don't know, but it seems this is your own.
Sound and rendition is once again superb...
If writing ever becomes work I think I'm going to have to stop

Sound and rendition is once again superb... Hey John Thanks for the listen and comment, most appreciated. I think the only time you would hear this song, in church, would be at Easter. I have sung it a number of times in church, at Easter, and had radio play back in 2010/11. I would love to hear the song(s) being referred to here. It definitely is my own creation...or maybe some Spirit helped.lol Steve

Well written Steve, and love the production, the music is great. Great vocals too. This would be a great CCM song. Over at SongU.com there is a pitch looking for Christian, Gospel. Male songs. Artist is Jason Crabb. I think this would have a great shot. That's my personal opinion anyhow. Not guaranteeing anything, just sayin .... Thanks for sharing.

Wow ! I like everything about this song. The production is fantastic and the vocals top notch. I'm pretty new here I'll have to check out some more of your songs. You have a great voice. The lead in notes reminds me of "Claudia's Theme" from Unforgivin. Is that a nylon string guitar? chesterb

Steve, (easier to write and say than VNorth2)
I remember this from a couple of year's back. I loved it the first time and so again. I think these lyrics would be a great example to demonstrate to those interested in writing better--you not only have powerful expressions but the ability to say so much with few lines. This story has been told and written thousands of different ways......but you sir have mastered a powerful composition structure that keeps anyone "riveted" that believes and familiar with this the gospels--and your music/melody superb.

Very pretty melody Steve. Conveys tremendous sincerity.
Just got back from accompanying my wife to a mass. Holy Thursday, washing of the feet, last supper... before Easter sermon. She will enjoy hearing this.
