Hey JPF friends. Sharing a Scam Alert with you! BEWARE of scammer looking for songwriter to write a song for his son's birthday. I was contacted, "do you write originals" in a instagram message. I worked on a song but when we got to time to pay I recognized the scam and called him out, but not before I wrote a song ... I never sent the song. DON'T GET CAUGHT!! Yeah, there's 10 scams out there for every honest person and it's a minefield to avoid them. I've narrowly missed a few myself, even though I am skeptical of most things.
Anything that comes from a random internet contact is mostly BS. Never give info or access or money to someone off the internet without multiple levels of due diligence. Even "legit" companies are at the center of some far reaching scams. Beware also corporate "contact" pages or customer service pages that come up in google. Often even those are fake. I tried to reach Dell/Alienware and found 7 different "corporate" HQ pages, all with difference phone numbers and of the 3 I called, 2 were disconnected and 1 was clearly a scammer from India. I finally gave up. Even when it seems to be a corporate domain name, often they will come up with clever variations to trick people.
