Hi Folks,
Would you guys like to have a virtual gathering for performances and to say hi in person? I am setting up Roadtrip Showcases and thought you board regulars might like to see each other and share some live songs etc.?
Let me know, I will be setting stuff up in a couple weeks.

Brian, our local NSAI group has been doing this during the pandemic. It works really well. The advice from NSAI is that we make a recording and play that (even a rough one) as there are sometimes problems with sound quality when playing live. I think Zoom is getting better, but getting good results can involve playing around with settings, etc. We still get plenty of personal interaction, which is important. Songs can be shared in two ways. Either we all send MP3s to the coordinator or the coordinator allows screen sharing, which works great so long as we remember to enable audio Good luck with this.

Thanks Japov and Gavin.
The first requirement is to round up at least 10 interested participants. This is the rule of thumb for any location.
Sound is an issue. It seems we might have to do 2 things for these events. 1. Zoom meeting first with discussions and storytelling etc. 2. Stream Yard live performances. Stream yard can have up to 10 people at once, and more in the comments during a livestream. Zoom can have 300. Performances are big problems on Zoom still. Stream Yard, however, seems to work really well with some reasonable limitations and processes. .
I think simply meeting the first time without performances would be a good start. If there aren't 10 interested people, then we'll have to develop the interest over time and I will focus on other locations. But it would be nice to humanize the site after all these years. I am happy with folks playing a recording (if it is posted on line I can add it to stream yard) but perhaps for the first attempt, a simply 30 minute hello/introduction etc. would suffice. Also we could work out tech issues. To participate, someone needs a modern phone android or apple, or a laptop with a built in camera or desktop webcam. It's pretty idiot proof. Helpful would be for folks to wear headphones while participating, otherwise they would mostly end up muted because of feedback loops. Most laptops and phones have built in mics and headphone jacks.
I'd like to eventually have regularly scheduled gatherings as well as "sessions" of live co-writing which we would post for folks to follow to learn as well as improve networking/cowriting etc. I think we could have fun timed challenges (like 30 minutes to compose a song in a certain key and style and lyrical topic etc.) I have lot of these types of ideas which could be a lot of fun. Meanwhile we'll post all of it on our Just Plain Folks and JP Folks YouTube channels.
I really think we could be more productive, get closer with each other and then we'll be doing co-events with other groups within JPF, some friendly competitions, workshops, maybe even a conference of sorts once we line up both the interest and the participation. My hopes is that by the end of 2021, this will be able to then turn into real life gatherings and events again supplemented with online.
If you guys would like to be Co-Coordinators (if even to just get the first couple events going over the next month) that would be great. Let me know.

Well, based on the responses, it appears it would just be the 3 of us. It's too bad as getting together as actual humans versus anonymous posters would be positive. Makes you wonder if people are who they say they are eh?

Brian Maybe people are intimidated by how great we are? (In my case, of course, that would be people who haven't actually heard any of my stuff :))

I would love to be part of this if possible. Day of the week could be tricky. Sundays are always open for me.

I'm in................ I mean we all have laptops don't we? Hell if the government can do it.. I'm sure it's a no brainer.. hahah
Time frames....... good question, depending on time zones. But I think after 7pm pretty much anyone can participate . If you want to do a dry run, just let me know. I'm always around.

Hi Folks, I have been working with a bunch of people on some exciting stuff. I am also happy to see some message board people interested in a meetup.
I am going to be doing some interviews this week for pur youtube channel and I may be setting up a zoom pro account so we can start having meetups.
Thanks for raising your hands.
Back this evening.
