Cool video, the obvious flaw for me is that all other so!is including these ones are going to be based around Pages. Especially the first guy, he came in with the same bend and same phrasing. If those solos were truly unique you wouldnt know the song was stairway. So its based on the original no matter what.
My guess is framptons or eddies solo wouldnt sound anything like those, but its hard not to imagine the original . those solos might be what those guys would do after hearing page first!
Ever try to change a song you wrote, a different chorus or bridge? Its hard.
Or try this psychological test...... Imagine a pink elephant in a dentists chair, now dont imagine the pink elephant in the chair....you can't do it can you.....

Well, its Pages greatness that made this video possible. I don't mind hearing what ifs, and coulda beens. Dont forget Page may have done several takes that we never heard, and if we heard them now, they would even sound less than the original, its so engrained in the public psyche.
Its fun sometimes to go there....
In the video, the guy said that Page did 3 versions. It is hard to understand how Page could get something so melodic and perfectly emotive back in that time. It is so good that it transcends the guitar and becomes about the way that it makes the listener feel. Still amazing after 1/2 a century.

Yeah, and how it was conceived in his brain before it was ever heard on the guitar. Guitar or any instrument is really the brain, the instrument is just a machine. Just like a singing voice is Creativity always trumps technique. Together they are lethal. But stairways solo genius isn't In the playing of it. Most mediocre guitarists can play that, but Page created it. All his solos were brilliant. Whole lotta love is one of the most exciting guitar solos I've ever heard. Took me a while but I learned it. But I'd never come up with that on my own. Sometimes you just gotta tip your hat. Pete Townshend...created some great solos too. Listen to this at 4:00 one of the coolest rock guitar ever.. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=usYTo11KmR4Angus youngs you shook me all night long...unreal solo. Its not just about jamming and technique its composing....inmho

Well you'd be hard pressed to name a guitarist who has more instantly identifiable riffs than Page. Just the riffs alone, not even the solos. Heartbreaker, livin lovin, the ocean, whole lotta love, black dog, dazed and confused, Moby Dick, list goes on. Then, classic solo after classic solo on top of it. Sth being a work of art.
Depends how you define great guitarist, I don't think he's the greatest, but one of if not the greatest creative guitarists. And by default one of rocks great guitarists. Keith Richards would be up there but he didn't have the soloing chops, but he was a riff genius too.
