Nice laid back feel, sets the mood very well! The shame is (JMHO) your hook is the weakest part... Seems to me it needs more than just "streets, streets, streets"... A phrase, something more poignant, descriptive... All streets lead to the soul of my city... Where we walk around Take your girl to town Just hangin' round All hearts beat in the city streets Just a thought

Vic/John,
I like this "Dire Straits" vibe. I was reading what Japov said and the chorus IMO does need to launch better. I, however, really like the using of the words "streets," as it's unique and phonetically, just sounds great. What I would suggest, is to empower that chorus, 1) pan the chorus guitar strums really wide R so that they don't compete with lead vox. 2) Thicken those chorus lines with a harmony, and "maybe" give it a "subtle dup lead vox track panned 40% L. I think this will enhance the chorus subtantially. Don't be afraid to change-up your attitude a bit more on certain lines as well to accentuate a few key lines making the overall performance less mellow in general.
I really like how the guitar answers flow throughout--experiment with some alternate panning or just a bit more panning--keeping center more for vox/bass/kick/snare. Cool lyrics and a very cool melody vibe--just needs a little polish to make it shine! Nice write--both of you.

Social commentary, excellent. Vic sounds a bit less "rich" vocally as I remember.
Overall, well done.

Hi Ed Thanks for the listen and suggestions, again technical issues will be addressed by Vic I'm sure. Yes Dire Straits was the plan when we discussed the music, Vic's a big fan of M. K. Regards John

Thanks for the comments Ed. Actually the guitar strums were panned about 35% left and right but I just increased that to 50% on a new upload on Soundcloud. https://soundcloud.com/vic-arnold/streetsSee how that sounds. The harmony was already panned left 35% and the centre is already taken up by those other tracks you mention. Vic

Vic, that does sound better, and less competition for that space. If you are using stereo tracks, 35%, won't sound too wide if the volume is higher--50% made a difference. I usually use mono tracks for guitars and have several tracks for panning of each and experimentation. Maybe drop the volume a couple of db on the "strums" for a more supporting role--unlike guitar answers as they are simultaneous with the lead vox. I dind't notice the harmonies the first listen, maybe notch them up a bit and keep them panned opposing those strums?
Always enjoy your songs,

Thanks, Mac. I suspect the key was too high for me at my tender age. It was in G but maybe should have been in E or D. I will have a go at it in one of those soon.

The guitar is the star It does have a bit of Dire Straits feel to it and a really nice vibe. I have to agree with JAPOV though. I felt the chorus could be more interesting. The repetition of "Streets" grated on me a bit. It feels a bit flat melodically and lyrically.

Hi again Ed. Thanks for the return.
I'm working on a lower key version now. I'll post it up tomorrow and maybe you'll come back again. Cheers!

Hi Gavin. Sorry to hear about the chorus grating on you. Maybe cutting it in half would work better but I don't think adding more explanatory words would help.
Thanks for listening.

I like the new version. I'm never going to be a huge fan of that chorus, but that's probably just me (it usually is), and there is a lot to like in this, especially the guitar. I certainly agree with the sentiment of the lyric.

Thanks for the update Gavin. I'm not usually a great fan of repeated phrases myself but I feel it works here as an anchor.
