Getting Back To Normal
I’m getting back to normal Getting used to living alone I’ve stopped suddenly crying And wishing she would phone, But I can’t close the door On a love that’s dead Regrets still flood in And take over my head.
And I don’t know when I’ll get there It’s a long hard climb But I’m getting back to normal One day at a time. I’m getting back to normal Getting used to staying out late Losing money gambling Waking with a headache, But I still dream of her Laying close to me Sharing a pillow And breathing deeply.
And I don’t know when I’ll get there It’s a long hard climb But I’m getting back to normal One day at a time.
I’m getting back to normal Getting close to reaching the day When I’m not lying When I say I’m o k, But love doesn’t vanish Like the morning mist Maybe after love Normal doesn’t exist.
Yes I don’t know when I’ll get there It’s a long hard climb But I’m getting back to normal One day at a time. Getting back to normal Getting back to normal One day at a time.

This reads well, John and I particularly like the third verse for the way it distills the feelings in the other two verses and poses a quasi-philosophical question. My main quibble would be that "Getting back to normal" isn't a particularly strong hook. It feels like it could use something more memorable or catchy or conveying a little more emotion to make us care more about the singer.

Hi John, I like the feelings this shows, but I stumble over a few line when I try to sing it. A few suggestions below, Keep or Sweep=KOS: Getting Back To Normal
I’m getting back to normal It's tough to live alone I’ve stopped suddenly crying Wishing she would phone, I can’t close the door On this love that’s dead Regrets still flood in And take over my head.
I don’t know when I’ll get there It’s a long hard climb I’m getting back to normal One day at a time. I’m getting back to normal I stay out way too late I'm losing money gambling Wake up with a headache, But I still dream of her Laying close to me Sharing a pillow Breathing so deeply.
I don’t know when I’ll get there It’s a long hard climb I’m getting back to normal One day at a time.
I’m getting back to normal Much closer to the day When I won't be lying When I say I’m o k, Love just doesn’t vanish Like the morning mist Maybe after love Normal doesn’t exist.
Yes I don’t know when I’ll get there It’s a long hard climb I’m getting back to normal One day at a time. Getting back to normal Getting back to normal One day at a time.

Thanks Gavin, I understand where you're coming from, Thanks John, I'll keep your input in mind but I'll wait and see if a musician wants to complete the song before making changes, all the best, john

I really like this. Sounds like he's trying but may find himself daydreaming in remembrance of lost love. Fantasy and dreams of people and places from one's past have been the breadbasket for loads of songs. This is another one of them. Have to confess that when I saw the title before reading the body of the piece that I envisioned it about being about society's desire to get back to normal following the coronavirus pandemic. There are mixed predictions out there on this one, with many predicting that some new normal will rise up from the ashes with the old normal dying.
