Hi, all:

It is with great sadness that I share that Dave Rice has passed away. I know many of us were quite worried about Dave as of late, not seeing his steady and reassuring presence on the board these past few weeks. I feel privileged to have had the honor of collaborating with Dave on two occasions. I never met Dave in person, but it didn't help me from knowing how fine and good a man he was. A true gentleman, a class act, and I will greatly miss his supportive and enthusiastic presence on this board. Rest in peace, my friend!

Below is a link to more information about Dave. No surprise to any of us I'm sure regarding how full a life had had led.

So sad to hear this..

My heart goes out to his family..

He was indeed a class act--always finding the commonalities between folks and accenting the positive..

Dave, the world needs more folks like you; you made me a better man just knowing you a little bit; I will truly miss your energy and warmth and kindness..

Rest in peace, Dave..

Love you, man..

Mike

Wow, sorry to hear this. Seems like just a short time ago he was here, throwing his two cents in on things. I didn't realize he was that age, I'm thinking now I might be one of the youngest folks still hanging around here.

Yeah, he was supportive of anyone jumping into this fire, but I always felt he was worlds away from me, not just location, but styles and obviously now I see age. I tend to forget how old some folks here are.

Good man for sure. Old school and proud .

R.I.P Dave! Good to have virtually known you.

Dave Rice, my dear friend whom I never met in person. Your humour and kindness to others will always be remembered. I will miss you. Hope you are jamming up a storm with the heavenly choir.

Very sad to hear this. I always thought of him as one of the nicest guys here. Always so supportive and encouraging, one of those people it just felt good to know, if only virtually. I will really miss Dave, as I think we all will.

Yes, Dave was a kind and welcoming voice to everyone on here. He will be greatly misses. I'm sure Bobbie and Graham and Joe and Stan and he and all the rest of our family that have passed on are jamming in the afterlife.

I'll miss Dave. Him and I were both former pilots. Spent many times talking to him on PN's about flying. He was also a cousin to my favorite bluegrass guitar player Tony Rice. Why would he lye about that.

Everything positive that has been said about Dave is echoed by me. He was a class act all the way! He will be missed and his influence of JPF was always great.

Its hard for this to sink in, and I was worried when he wasn't "shouting." I've had some great private conversations with Dave, who was someone I really looked up to. The world needs more guys like him for sure. R.I.P. music friend.

I am stunned. According to the logs Dave was on the site today. A few months ago we talked privately about the fact that he was going to wind down and recently he indicated he would be leaving the board but I didn't know it would be like this. He was nothing but a positive influence here from day one until his final day. I lost my breath when I saw this.

Our numbers have dwindled over the years mostly due to technology shifts and our members literally aging out of active music writing. I speak with members via email, phone, other social media etc. regularly who just don't have time to come here any more. Because of my own health struggles I haven't been touring and worst of all, our music awards which were finished more than a year ago haven't had any opportunity for an in person event which serves to inject energy and buzz among the 89K people on our email list. Losing key members (you can all see those we lost to the left hand column) takes another brick from the foundation and without a new music awards starting and bringing in new and younger folks it is a tough hill to climb to get folks to use what most see as old technology.

The irony of it all is that we actually have more unregistered traffic here daily than at any time in our history. The difference is that our registered traffic is the opposite. I appreciate all of you who still participate and who add something positive to the mix. We have a lot more burden to each add some positive energy like our friend Dave did. I met Dave many years go in Glen Rose when I first had family living there (still do). I always thought we would get together again in person. A sad reminder to put stuff off less and always make the most of opportunities when you have it.

If I can find our photo I will post it but I fear it may be lost along with many thousands of others in a computer mishap.

Thank you Dave for your heart and help over these past 15 years. You will be sorely missed. Much love to his family and all his friends here and the world.

PS: Please get the news out to your friends who don't come by often.

Dave was forever proud of a Welsh ancestry which was shared by at least two other members, Vic and myself.
Always encouraging and supporting new or old hands on the forum very much like the late much lamented Stan Good in this respect.
I spoke to Dave on numerous occasions off the boards, I knew he'd been unwell but even so he was determined to carry on with his passions such as Chess or church.
Much travelled with a fascinating working career.
A sad loss, and a gentleman.

Dave was always the first one to post comments on a song.
Sadly, another brick in the wall gone.

This is very sad news. Dave was one of those decent individuals who cared about others as witnessed by his contributions to the Covid thread. Not a lot said, but impactful as he reminded us to look after ourselves....make music to take yourself to a happy place, and don't forget to pray.

Thank you Dave. Rest assured your life had meaning and impact

Dave and I talked privately quite a few times--he was in Nashville and called a few times--he gave me a lot of tips on songwriting! We had similar careers, both technical and in music!

Like Brian, I am stunned: he was one of the steady responders on our forum, and would give an honest critique of your song! He was a little older than me, but I learned valuable ideas from him, in private and through this forum! We talked about our health problems as we both aged gracefully! Dave RIP!

I will miss his positive attitude, and hope he smiles down on us, as we carry on!

A gentleman in the true sense and often a calming influence here during contentious moments.

We always looked forward to his responses to our posts and we will forever treasure our pm exchanges here.

RIP Dave.

Dave Rice, a real gentleman who so many times helped me with possive words & he also did a few voiceovers for me when I needed them. I now have a face from the Obituary to put to him.
May God look after him and bless his wife and family left behind.

Farewell my friend R.I.P

God Bless from me and my Helen who has met him now in heaven.

God Bless Roy

It's nice to see so many key folks stop by. Please don't be strangers. Dave told me how much he loved the site and I think that is why he kept coming back.

We have the ONLY place on the net I have seen where people can talk openly about the most divisive issues and all sides are allowed to participate without some part being run out of the discussion. We have to have open communication, if for no other reason, as a pressure release. Let's collectively keep making sure we remember in the end that we're all stuck in the same boat and make room for all of us.

I never conversed with Dave, being here for a short time, but read all his posts that were included in conversations I looked at. What came through was a genuinely gracious and caring human being. I didn’t know him, but still will somehow miss him..

I am so saddened to hear about Dave's passing! I had the privilege of co-writing a few songs with him and will treasure those songs that he "musicated." RIP, Dave. We'll miss you.

Dave Rice was unfailingly polite and well-mannered, even when fully riled by politics and arguments. Very sorry to hear of his passing.
