Hi, all: It is with great sadness that I share that Dave Rice has passed away. I know many of us were quite worried about Dave as of late, not seeing his steady and reassuring presence on the board these past few weeks. I feel privileged to have had the honor of collaborating with Dave on two occasions. I never met Dave in person, but it didn't help me from knowing how fine and good a man he was. A true gentleman, a class act, and I will greatly miss his supportive and enthusiastic presence on this board. Rest in peace, my friend! Below is a link to more information about Dave. No surprise to any of us I'm sure regarding how full a life had had led. Texarkana Gazette ObituaryMy best to you all, Deej

I am stunned. According to the logs Dave was on the site today. A few months ago we talked privately about the fact that he was going to wind down and recently he indicated he would be leaving the board but I didn't know it would be like this. He was nothing but a positive influence here from day one until his final day. I lost my breath when I saw this.
Our numbers have dwindled over the years mostly due to technology shifts and our members literally aging out of active music writing. I speak with members via email, phone, other social media etc. regularly who just don't have time to come here any more. Because of my own health struggles I haven't been touring and worst of all, our music awards which were finished more than a year ago haven't had any opportunity for an in person event which serves to inject energy and buzz among the 89K people on our email list. Losing key members (you can all see those we lost to the left hand column) takes another brick from the foundation and without a new music awards starting and bringing in new and younger folks it is a tough hill to climb to get folks to use what most see as old technology.
The irony of it all is that we actually have more unregistered traffic here daily than at any time in our history. The difference is that our registered traffic is the opposite. I appreciate all of you who still participate and who add something positive to the mix. We have a lot more burden to each add some positive energy like our friend Dave did. I met Dave many years go in Glen Rose when I first had family living there (still do). I always thought we would get together again in person. A sad reminder to put stuff off less and always make the most of opportunities when you have it.
If I can find our photo I will post it but I fear it may be lost along with many thousands of others in a computer mishap.
Thank you Dave for your heart and help over these past 15 years. You will be sorely missed. Much love to his family and all his friends here and the world.
PS: Please get the news out to your friends who don't come by often.

Dave was forever proud of a Welsh ancestry which was shared by at least two other members, Vic and myself. Always encouraging and supporting new or old hands on the forum very much like the late much lamented Stan Good in this respect. I spoke to Dave on numerous occasions off the boards, I knew he'd been unwell but even so he was determined to carry on with his passions such as Chess or church. Much travelled with a fascinating working career. A sad loss, and a gentleman. Gorffwys mewn heddwch Daf

Dave and I talked privately quite a few times--he was in Nashville and called a few times--he gave me a lot of tips on songwriting! We had similar careers, both technical and in music!
Like Brian, I am stunned: he was one of the steady responders on our forum, and would give an honest critique of your song! He was a little older than me, but I learned valuable ideas from him, in private and through this forum! We talked about our health problems as we both aged gracefully! Dave RIP!
I will miss his positive attitude, and hope he smiles down on us, as we carry on!

It's nice to see so many key folks stop by. Please don't be strangers. Dave told me how much he loved the site and I think that is why he kept coming back.
We have the ONLY place on the net I have seen where people can talk openly about the most divisive issues and all sides are allowed to participate without some part being run out of the discussion. We have to have open communication, if for no other reason, as a pressure release. Let's collectively keep making sure we remember in the end that we're all stuck in the same boat and make room for all of us.
