Hi All, My latest Christian Country song, inspired by a tree growing across the street in a church yard. I'll be going out this Sunday to cut the vines away. bent over it is a sad sight. I just finished a raw MP3 for anyone who wants a listen:

The Tree

There's a tree in the churchyard
All bent and hanging down
I noticed it this morning
The saddest sight around
It isn't ill or aged
It's covered up with vines
Looking at it thoughtfully
I took it as a sign

I was weighted down with sin-----} Chorus
Just like those strangler vines
Until I realized I
Was part of God's design
Like the tree I struggled
To hold my self upright
Like the tree I needed help
To win this constant fight

I started cutting at the vines
And to talk with Him
As I peeled the vines away
He whispered "Let Me in"
My work was rewarded
The tree began to stand
All my sins were lifted
I am born again

I was weighted down with sin-----} Chorus
Just like those strangler vines
Until I realized I
Was part of God's design
Like the tree I struggled
To hold my self upright
Like the tree I needed help
To win this constant fight

None of us can live alone--------} Bridge
We need His helping hand
To lift us to give us hope
To be part of His plan

Instrumental Break

I was weighted down with sin-----} Chorus
Just like those strangler vines
Until I realized I
Was part of God's design
Like the tree I struggled
To hold my self upright
Like the tree I needed help
To win this constant fight

Like the tree I needed help
To win this constant fight

This is really not my kind of thing, but it seems like a good lyric to me, John.

A suggestion for what it's worth, which might not be much smile

I'm not a huge fan of this line: "To lift us from our misery," just because not everyone who needs this help is in actual misery. To me, something like, "To lift us up, to give us hope," might be better. It has a nice little internal rhyme, which makes it more enjoyable to sing. Not that there's anything wrong with what you have.

Hi Gavin.
Thanks for the read, and the thoughtful suggestion. I like it and I'll use it. I did one take of this on MP3 but it's raw, and the next time your suggestion will be there, along with a couple of other slight changes I made.

Just Plain Quotes
"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
