https://soundcloud.com/wabash-cannibal/robert-george-when-tomorrow-still-believed-in-usWhen Tomorrow Still Believed In UsI was watchin’ our old driveway Beer can on the windowsill Red moon risin’ in the distance And our house was cold and still I waited 'til past midnight And I could feel the morning turn to dust Wedding photos on the wall, Helped a lonely heart recall When tomorrow still believed in us
Slipped my future off my finger And dropped it in the empty can Called the local Greyhound depot Grabbed a one-way to Cheyenne Guess I could’ve stayed and argued with you 'bout things we never did discuss But I’d disappeared by dawn, Cos I knew the days were gone When tomorrow still believed in usAnd the things I saved and carried with me Were things that old driver couldn’t see They were memories of passion and trust When tomorrow still believed in us
You were gonna sneak in quiet and then tip-toe up our stairs Then you found a house of shadows And a can beside my chair Friends say you’re lonesome and you’re sorry But your fickle heart will soon adjust Then the past will be a haze, And you won’t relive the days When tomorrow still believed in usAnd the things that I saved and carried with me Were things that old driver couldn’t see They were memories of passion and trust When tomorrow still believed in us

Just some thoughts... (I pulled into our driveway) (Cold six-pack in the seat) Red moon risin’ in the distance (And I knew just where you'd be) I waited 'til past midnight (Then watched the morning turn to dust) Wedding photos on the wall, Helped a lonely heart recall When tomorrow still believed in us Slipped (our) future off my finger And dropped it in (an) empty can (Said good bye to all our hopes-n-dreams) (And hit the road for Cheyenne) Guess I could’ve stayed and argued (But there was nothing to discuss) (By the time you got home) (The days were already gone) When tomorrow still believed in us The things I saved and carry with me (Remind me of who we used to be) They were memories of passion and trust When tomorrow still believed in us You were gonna sneak in quiet and then tip-toe up our stairs (But) you found a house of shadows And a can beside my chair Friends say you’re so alone and sorry (And you're struggling to adjust) (That house will always haunt you) (My empty chair reminds you) When tomorrow still believed in us

Thanks everyone. JAPOV, here's a few thoughts. Cold six pack in my seat etc. There's no need to change what I had. Plus, the listener might get the idea of drinking and driving. What I have paints a clear, stark, concise picture. And yours has a bad rhyme. The phrase "hopes n dreams" doesn't need to be in a song ever again. "Struggling to adjust" would be hard to sing. As it's written now, it's singable and the meter's tighter than Joe Biden's face. "House will always haunt you." See comment on hopes n dreams.

Hey Couch, Great tune, very heartful. Especially like the double lead up to the hook and the bridge is well placed. Slipped my future off my finger.... what a great line. Nice job ! cheers, niteshift
