I just finished this song that has been on the back burner for a couple of years! Just a simple love song, that expresses another way to say, "I love you." Dedicated to my lovely wife!"

Special recognition to Teddy Snyder for his lead guitar and bass/Eric Kaufman for piano/drums. Vocals, acoustic guitar, & producton - e.swartz. Hope you like it, comments surely welcome, - steady-eddie.

There But For You Go I

THERE BUT FOR YOU GO I - music/lyrics: e.swartz

There but for you, go I
I’ll say those words until I die
An old fashioned phrase, that simply conveys
My heartfelt feelings for you

(Chorus) Every night I lay my head down, on my pillow next to you
Caressing your hair, and you’re holding me tight
We’re making love on into the night

When I think of all the years gone by
So many memories, it makes me cry
I can’t imagine my life, without you as my wife
You are a blessing it’s true

(Bridge) Before I met you, my life was a mess
No direction or purpose it’s true
You were an angel on a rescue mission
I’m really glad you said “I do”

(Guitar Solo) (Repeat Chorus)

There but for you, go I
I’ll say those words until I die
An old fashioned phrase, that simply conveys
My heartfelt feelings for you……there but for you……go I

Beautifully written Eddie.
Excellent vocals and tasteful guitar throughout.

The piano and bass... the lovely heartbeat of the song. (reminds me of "Queen")

Eddie,

Really sweet tune—smooth, heartfelt vocal with a really nice mix behind it. That chorus had a Beatles feel to me, or at least reminiscent in some ways. Nice production touches throughout (the piano, those intermittent guitar licks, that guitar solo after the bridge, and then those Queen sounding guitar chords near the end of that solo). Lot, lot to like here. Good stuff!!

All my best to you,

Deej,

Thanks so much! No question Beatles have been a one major influence me. Although, I'm not thinking Beatles or anyone really when composing music. Teddy loves Queen and wanted to experiment with those harmonies on his electric guitar--I liked it too. It's great having a local session musician that can come to your studio, as it allows for more experimentation etc.

Well you can't argue with this one Eddie, isn't love just great? Some Brian May like guitar thrown in as a bonus. Best,

Hey Gerry!

Thanks for taking the spin! Teddy will be gratified that you recognized his Brian May influence! (making love all through the night isn't exactly "recent" behavior, more like 25 years ago)............

I'd say 70s singer songwriter ish, Cat Stevens, that kind if thing. Double vocals.

It does remind of queens my best friend or killer queen, leads are those samples? Maybe a bit john lennon solo stuff too, enjoyed.

This is smooth and enjoyable, sure the wife will love it.

Thanks Fde for checking the song out.

I doubled just a few places--I like that with some songs, others not. I grew up in the 60's & 70's so no doubt that era influences my songwriting. The Queen-esk guitar parts are real. I recorded Teddy's guitar tracks on seven tracks: lead solo, lead background riffs, rhythm chugs, the Brian May guitar harmonies (3-part harmony) each on their own track, and later song more distant background parts. I just played the two wide panned acoustic guitar tracks.

I enjoyed the production, especially the guitar and what a lovely tribute, I am so happy for you to have been so happy to be compelled to write it in song and share.

Not sure how I missed this one when you posted it. It's a lovely song, sweet in a really good way. I'm not entirely sure about your choice to have a kind of doubling of the vocals right from the start (at least that's what it sounds like to my ears). Something as simple and from the heart as this might be better without that - just a single voice telling a simple, beautiful truth. You only have one heart smile That might just be my preference, though, and I might be hearing it wrong.

I like the way you give a shout out to the guitar soloist and pianist in the comments. That's a classy touch.

Thanks Gavin!

I do like doubles with certain songs or in certain areas of a song. The vocals with this song were tracked a few years back when I utilized more doubles. I re-produced this recently, but didn't change the vocals, rather mainly the electric guitar addition and a few production improvements. You may be right however given the sentiment nature of the song, that the doubles really aren't needed, and perhaps I may have grown so used the sonic sound of the doubling after hearing it many times--I'm sure I experimented leaving them out, but decided otherwise when mixing. You have a good point however, and you are the new "real" listener--although most non-songwriters don't even notice or are aware of the vocal doubling--it definitely gives a slightly different effect for sure. The thing about doubling is that you want to attempt to sing each track the same, but you never will, and if you did, you wouldn't have any unique effect, except more volume--timing needs to be pretty tight however. The idea is actually to give more "presence," like a chorus or delay insert may do with a guitar track. Sometimes doubling is effective adding lead vox weight to one side of the mix when there lots of weight opposing. I'm beyond this production now as I've had it in the studio twice now, but may take a look at modifying, reducing, or eliminating the doubling when/if I take the song back into production--thanks for your keen ears.

Fun, creative arrangement of a sweet simple song. Not just Queen but early Queen. Reminds me of "Some Day One Day". Only suggestion is to bring some of that in a little earlier to hint at what's coming. A short little guitar line on the break after the first verse would do it.

Thanks Ant!

I agree with you, and I usually do exactly what you were suggesting and for that same reason. We did experiment there a bit, but I kind of liked the piano riff there not being interrupted after the first verse. But I do think there is still some space to introduce that electric guitar a bit sooner--I may not change it here soon, but I'll be having Teddy back in the studio this winter I'm sure--so will review that point!
