Inspiration for this one was the photograph taken in 1939 of a Fountain with 6 children dancing in a circle. It was taken in 1942 and on that day over 40,000 civilians died in the bombing. The City was Stalingrad. Could well be I am going over the edge but at my age I am past caring LOL

Stay Safe, Best,

Gerry

Hey, Gerry:

I'm assuming the "Balalaika" is mixed in to provide authenticity... and to me... total sadness. The film music providers are going to looking for some or all of this well done and well performed music. Great job as usual.
Best wishes for success. ----Dave

Hi Gerry,
Very interesting and nice. I could hear it as a score. Do you pursue SYNC?

I was fascinated long ago by the ability of children in the midst of devastation to find hope, positive expectation, to play in a war zone.
The Nazi's wielding Government authority commanded the German Army to invade Russia in June, 1942, Operation Barbarosa. The Nazi SS (Schutzstaffel), a private militia of the Nazi Party (NSDAP), militarized, came behind the Army and slaughtered civilians, the Einsatzgruppen. Ben Ferencz was able to prosecute the commanders at Nuremberg using their signed reports of numbers killed, submitted to their Leadership Decision-Makers.

Gerry,

Ominous and haunting . . . Beautifully put together with some great touches (i.e., the guitar licks—really nice . . . don’t know why some of them reminded me of Mark Knopfler). Would be a credit to any film looking to use it as a score. Well done!

All my best,

Deej

If only I had a "Balalaika" in my arsenal of instruments but unfortunately not Dave. I cheated and used a Chinese instrument called a Yan Qin and tweaked it as close as I could get to the real thing but don´t tell anyone LOL.

Sadly these days John I pursue nothing apart from the joy of composing and making music. LOL Best, Gerry

Yes Children are resilient in the most adverse of conditions. A friend of mine said the music was more poignant due to Covid 19. The incredible thing is that in almost 7 months Covid 19 deaths World Wide are under 1 Million. In just 5 months, 1 week and 3 Days the death toll at Stalingrad was 2 Million. That number includes troops on both sides and Russian Civilians. Stalin decided to leave the civilian population of 400,000 in Stalingrad to lift the moral of the Russian troops. I Million Russian troops were either dead, wounded or missing at the end of the Battle and German loses were at 850,000. The figures are just too horrendous for most of us to comprehend or understand but I suspect if there was a hell on earth Stalingrad during those 5 months was it. Gerry

As Deej said, reminiscent of something Knopfler would do.
Good atmospheric piece.

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Gerry--

Very nice work!

I listened to several of your recordings--You have some great sounding pieces--some should be in movie sound tracks!

Just Plain Quotes
"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
