Just need advice here. I wrote a song and collaborated it with a vocalist and a producer. I sent my song to the produce then he sent it to the vocalist of which we know each other well.
Now, I asked another friend of mind to listen to the song and he said he liked it and want to do a remix of the song, so I ask the producer collaborated with to send over the vocal stem to me so I can send it to my friend to remix it but to my surprise he do not want to send me the vocal Stem. He said the vocalist will have to agree and she do agree. He talk about the % spits of which everyone agreed.
So I am wondering what is the big deal. Should I ask the vocalist we collaborated with for the vocal stem?, I need your help.. .

Sounds so complicated Irwin. When I collaborate with a lyricist, we share all files. I pay the vocalist upfront, and that ends the vocalist's part. I never used a producer. I imagine he feels threatened with the other producer you're considering. So yeah, ask the vocalist for the vocal sep. If she doesn't let you have it, I would wonder about her relationship with the producer. Good luck, John

Thank you John, Just want to clear the air, monies were not paid for us to collaborate, we share the song 33.33% each one of us get the 1% difference (I think he did)
I really thought we had a nice collaboration friendship team (If you know what I mean) at lease he made me believe that.

Do you have a contract signed with this producer? If so, I can understand his concern for you considering another producer. However, if you don't have an agreement with him, you and the vocalist can choose another producer. John

Thanks for asking John, No contracts But we did sign a spit sheet about the percentage shares. That's all.
