Best Moment Of My Life Lyrics

https://soundcloud.com/chris-wood-88/best-moment-of-my-life

Taken from an album I did a few years ago, love to hear your thoughts

Verse
Do you remember the day
I remember the hour
When you kissed me for the first time
Held me for the first time

Do you remember that time
When we danced under the stars
When we said it for the first time
Showed it for the first time

Pre Chorus
They were the best Moments in my life

Chorus
Until I got down on my knees
and promised you I'll see it through until the end
And guest what you said

You said you'll marry me and love me to my dying day
Promised that you'll never go away
This is now, this is now
The Best Moment of My Life

Verse

Do you remember when we laughed
laughed so hard we cried
I can't even remember what we found so funny anymore

Do you remember when we sat
And watched the setting sun
I held you in my arms
Just to keep you safe and warm

Pre Chorus
They were the best Moments in my life

Chorus
Until I got down on my knees
and promised you I'll see it through until the end
And guest what you said

You said you'll marry me and love me to my dying day
Promised that you'll never go away
Tthis is now, this is now
The Best Moment of My Life

Break

Chorus
Until I got down on my knees
and promised you I'll see it through until the end
And guest what you said

You said you'll marry me and love me to my dying day
Promised that you'll never go away
This is now, this is now
The Best Moment of My Life

Hi Chris,
The music and your vocals are very good. For me, and because you asked, the lyrics have a lot of repetitions in them. Like" :
When you kissed me for the first time
Held me for the first time

Do you remember that time
When we danced under the stars
When we said it for the first time
Showed it for the first time
Lot's of "Time" and "First Time"

and lots of "Do you remember"
I would find a way to break them up at least a little. Just my thoughts, Keep or Sweep, KOS

Hi Chris:

Your vocal abilities far out-weigh your lyric writing. I have enjoyed the songs you have co-created with Kiphen but encourage you to do what works best for your plans for the future. Believe me, you have a future.

May I share with you some lyrics from a gentleman called Ed Sheeran

I'm in love with the shape of you
We push and pull like a magnet do
Although my heart is falling too
I'm in love with your body
Last night you were in my room
And now my bedsheets smell like you
Every day discovering something brand new
I'm in love with your body
Come on, be my baby, come on
Come on, be my baby, come on
I'm in love with your body
Come on, be my baby, come on
Come on, be my baby, come on
I'm in love with your body
Come on, be my baby, come on
Come on, be my baby, come on
I'm in love with your body
Every day discovering something brand new
I'm in love with the shape of you

Morning, Chris:

I hope you will never take offense to honest opinions. I've never written a song that could not be improved. Songs are not "cast in stone" and if a re-write is needed... take the Bull by the Horns and grind away until it achieves all the potential you believe it needs.

Thanks for explaining what you wanted to accomplish or emulate. In my opinion you came very close... but only because you have excellent vocal and musical capabilities.

It takes a great deal of inner courage to "roll out" a new song. Just one of the many drawbacks songwriters must endure. Some will enjoy it... some will tell you they enjoyed it to curry favor for their own creation(s) and some will not tell you a thing after listening.

If it were easy... everyone would be on the "charts." LOL!

All my best to you, ----Dave

I'll echo what Dave said. There are tons of pop songs that do that, and make money doing it. If that was what you were after, yes, you did achieve it. The songs I remember, and love the best, are story songs, and songs that say things in a very different way. Nothing I said was meant to be mean.

I like a song that's not afraid to go big. Your vocals pack a lot of punch and intensity and I like that about the song (and others I've heard where you're singing). I also think you have the makings of a good song here. It's a simple but powerful theme and you approach it from a nice angle we can all relate to.

I have no problem with the repetition. It's a perfectly valid technique and makes the song catchier and easier to sing along to. I can't stand Ed Sheeran and particularly that song, but it's because of the dud melody rather than the lyric smile Besides, the fact I don't like him doesn't exactly seem to be holding him back LOL.

One thing that I'm not sure about is the sudden upping of the intensity at 1:05 on the words "Until I got down on my knees." It seemed to me that such a dramatic shift called for a more emotional line, where the singer professes his love to the world, or something along those lines. Getting down on your knees to propose is something normally done quietly.

You might find it easier to sing if you changed the first word of that line from "Until" to "Till."

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed listening to this.

I agree, it's a weak lyric. The song is about the best moments of your life but you don't have anything interesting to say about those moments. A melody and arrangement can "say" what those moments are in some cases.

I know two things about Sheeran. Here they are:

1. He has copyright infringement issues.

2. What songs of his I've heard are puerile, as is the pre-school lyric above.

But that's modern music. Awhile back I commented on the weakness of a lyric and was rewarded by the posting of a Lady Gaga/Diane Warren lyric. The lyric was bad, the song was bad and the video was worse, though it carried the song.

It depends on what kind of song you want to write, and what kind of song you can write.

Chris, pay no attention to the overstuffed furniture on this thread, or at least don't let him bring you down. Couch talks like that to everyone, even me, and I happen to know for a fact that I'm brilliant. smile He sees himself as a Louis XIV settee, but he's really just an off-brand Lay Z Boy marked down at Big Lots.

When you write a song don't write it to please or to impress the other songwriters.
Write it to please yourself and to please the listeners.

Try to write what you think will be appreciated by the listeners (they are not experts in songwriting).
Keep it simple and singable.

Have fun!

Here's the thing, the comparison to Ed Sheerhan was made. He is a very famous artist and can release whatever song he wants to. Whatever lyric he wants, nobody has to screen his songs.

If that's where you're going , you need to write a better song than shape of you.

And shape of you is a great Track, not song per se but I'm not so snobby to not acknowledge how good the song is for its purpose.

Very hypnotic and contagious groove, kinda exotic dancerous which fits the theme which I think makes the song. Two very strong melodic hooks, good melody, and lyrically not much can be done with it. Basicly, the shape of you is a good title, and never used before, and even a common line like, I'm in love with your body, far as I know nobody has used that phrase before. so some fresh hooks.

And If somebody used the track and tried to write new lyricw, I don't see them doing better with it.

Far as copyright issues, everybody has them, just not everybody has money like sheerhan to go after.

That said, if a top 40 hit is your goal, you have to one up sheerhan, being a noone in the biz.

I'm not sure anybody here has one uped shape of you ,even though I'm not a big fan

I've learned to take the constructive criticism and ignore what's just critical. I've had my lyrics dissected and desecrated and sometimes praised. Just write what you feel with expression and do your own thing

I'd rather listen to this any day of the week over Sheerhan or Gaga, I don't think the repetitions are too much, especially these days. Good voice and melody, I was expecting some drums or percussion. Good song!

Chris,

First off, an enthusiastic welcome to the forum—glad you are posting your own tunes in addition to the collaborations with Carroll. I’ll look forward to hearing more.

As for this tune, music is subjective—but for me, it works really well. I tend to think folks put too much emphasis on lyrics, particularly in a pop song like this. The lyric isn’t Shakespeare and it wouldn’t stand on its own as poetry, but it doesn’t have to. And married to a compelling melody, with a killer vocal, with some nice production—it’s all good. As good as some of the pop stuff I’d hear on the radio—back when I use to waste my time listening to it, LOL!

Plus 1 to Guy’s post above as well. Write what you want to hear—it’ll stay true and authentic, and chances are lots of others are going to like it.

You’re a talented guy—I hope you stay with us and share more.

All my best,

Deej

PS. “Above Gravity” came on while I was typing this—outstanding vocal on that as well, wow!

So my thoughts...

When the music started playing & hearing the tone of the vocal, I thought it was gonna be a love lost song. In fact I thoroughly expected it to have been "The best moment of my life" past tense. That is until in the Chorus you say "This is now, this is now".

How did the album do?

Chris,

Most importantly, IMO, you have a song that has a wonderful melody along with a very dynamic performance. The song lends itself to have that dynamic performance because it has a well composed melody train, decent arrangement, decent lyrics, with a powerful emotive delivery. Crits above aren't really wrong IMO, as I personally would like seeing less of the "first time" line, however, that is not a big deal and yes, many successful songs could be critiqued thusly as FD pointed out how "famousness" can "get away" with more including weak lyrics at times. Guy makes a great point as well, that our individual art never "has" to follow "cookie-cutter" guidelines within the industry--having said that, songwriter's critiquing songs will always be harsher/more honest than the lay listener who only needs a solid melody to attract their listening attention, which is why "I" believe that melody is the foundation of a song (generally speaking) and lyrics are the passengers on that melody train. Absolutely there are some songs much more dependent on lyrics than others however depending on the song's vibe or artistic expression. Couch, for instance writes beautiful well crafted lyrics which is one of his signatures--but he doesn't shabby with melody either. I personally like many different styles of lyrics from profound, poetic, folksy, to just simple and straight forward--it just depends what I think a song needs given it's vibe etc.

It's great to have a little debate when we each see things somewhat differently or even disagree, one thing I have learned around here over the years, is those who take their valuable time to carefully give you their opinions--it's can be valuable and definitely worth "entertaining" a bit of that incite. I certainly dismiss crits where I'm totally in disagreement for whatever reason, chew on some, and even employ many actually either with the song in question, or using that incite with later songwriting projects.

Most importantly here is, you have a "really good" song, well performed, could certainly be enhanced with professional production--(as that goes with most all of us as well). I thoroughly enjoyed the song--especially the chorus--good luck with this, as it has potential for sure!
