Iím Busy finding me

Verse
I go to work I go back home
Donít talk to anyone.
Dream of what lies ahead of me.
Lament things that Iíve done.
I would like to be somebody
Somebodyís dreaming of.
Find that elusive butterfly
The feeling they call love.
Chorus
Donít have time for others.
I wish theyíd leave me be.
Give me some solitude.
Iím busy finding me.
If I canít love myself
Then no one else will see
Anyone worth loving.
Iím busy finding me.
Verse
I donít know who or what I am.
I just know what Iím not.
Iím not ugly Iím not hateful
And that should say a lot.
I think Iíll take a few classes.
Explore a few new worlds.
Maybe round out some rough edges.
Iíll reinvent this girl.
Chorus
Donít have time for others.
I wish theyíd leave me be.
Give me some solitude.
Iím busy finding me.
If I canít love myself
Then no one else will see
Anyone worth loving.
Iím busy finding me.
Bridge
Maybe if Iím not looking.
Love will come along?
Maybe Iíll find happiness?
A place where I belong.
Verse
I go to work I go back home
Donít talk to anyone.
Dream of what lies ahead of me.
Lament things that Iíve done.
I would like to be somebody
Somebodyís dreaming of.
Find that elusive butterfly
The feeling they call love.
Chorus
Donít have time for others.
I wish theyíd leave me be.
Give me some solitude.
Iím busy finding me.
If I canít love myself
Then no one else will see
Anyone worth loving.
Iím busy finding me.

Hi Kiph:

I think you've found the right combination here. A great sounding song with lyrics that allowed a great vocalist take it to a higher level. I'm unsure whether or not this is a demo you paid for... or a joint venture? It works either way and sometimes you have to take a risk to get your lyrics noticed. As I've said before, you are one of the best lyricists at JPF. Hopefully, if you are in the "paying" side of the equation now, you will quickly cross over into the sharing scenario we all strive to establish.

Really enjoyed my listen. Modern Country Genre? (My best guess... but it sure sounds "today!")

Best of luck with it. ----Dave

I quit having songs produced for demos. Why pay. No money in it anymore anyways. Just get lucky have have a few good musicians that produce quality songs. I don't pitch anything anymore.I have over a hundred good songs
that never get heard unless i post them on sites such as this.

I hear you, Kiph:

I don't know a single songwriter who does not want folks to hear their songs. The sad fact is... we are living in a world where the song produced in whatever genre or format... had better be the best... or nearly the best it can be. Otherwise, it will never get airtime, cash register rings or any attention. The music industry no longer has "ears"... meaning they do not recognize potential... unless the path is already "paved" for them. (At your expense.)

You have not "made your case" about your song-writing relationship with Chris. It's either a 50/50 split (or something close to that) or you received a "free" demo if that is really what Chris meant???

My intent is not to belittle you or cause anything that might be construed as an insult. I am naturally curious and always want to compare my own situation with others I admire and respect. If you are one of those who "plays his cards" close to his chest... then I completely understand. Our friend Marvin Adcock appears to pay for his demos in Nashville (or close by) and does not participate much in all the "mutual admiration society" most of us do. I suspect he pays more attention to "listens" than comments. Not a bad strategy. I'm guessing he has folks who pitch his songs in Twang-Town and other than being expensive... ain't too shabby if it works well enough to balance the ledger... or bring in the loot.

We do our best to survive in a flawed music business and a Pandemic of epic proportions.

Keep at it, Pal! ----Dave

If for some reason a song is actually picked up I always have a 50/ 50 split. Neither Chris nor myself are trying to market anything. That being the case. he doesn't spend alot of time on it. I haven't pais anyone to produce anything for quite a few years. Just do this because I enjoy being part of creating songs. Hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the clarification, Kiph:

I was hoping you were actually 50/50 co-writers and I understand that "pitching" is a bitch of an ordeal. I don't pitch much of my stuff but when I have a demo made it is usually done on a "work for hire" agreement and since I have only a few co-writers, my split is only with the other publisher. (I am my own publisher but don't seek song submissions.) It is primarily a bargaining chip if an artist or producer is interested in doing a "cover." Stardom has never been of interest to me and touring would cause instant insanity. I only want my songs to "stick around" long after I'm gone as long as they are sung with someone with a better vocal ability than I possess. LOL!

Streaming is slowly killing music and that part of the culture of this nation. Sad!

As I said in my previous post... best wishes for success. ----Dave

Hi Again,
This is a very good song, and you have quite a few of them. I have over 200 demos, most I paid for, and out of them, maybe 50 really good ones that could be songs on the air today. For most of us, unless you were born holding a fistful of 4 leaf clovers, we have 3 ways to make it as songwriters; 1) Have family or friend connections, 2) Be the kind of artist that gets picked up and promoted by a big record company or get noticed by a lot of people in the indie/streaming market, or 3) Have so much money you can promote yourself, self publish, and/or pay song pitchers or do it yourself. I don't fit any of these so I'm still looking for that single 4 leaf clover that will get me noticed. Good luck with yours.

Have a goodun,

John W. Selleck BMI Songwriter

Carroll (and Chris),

Another terrific collaboration, highlighted by a a great vocal with compelling harmonies. No nits from me on this one. Just really well done! You two are hitting on all cylinders.

All my best,

Deej

Hey Kiph/Chris,

You have a solid song here for sure. When someone posts as a "Demo" that is finished, it doesn't make sense for anyone to critique arrangement/performance/lyrics/melody/production unless poster/writer asks IMO. I enjoyed the song, nice work. I think when posting however, if you don't specify where you are in production, you will get sugs/crits/opinions--a good thing, but some may not want to critique if production has been finalized.

Very good music and singing, professional sounding recording. The words are a little too self-helpy for me, but others may actually benefit from hearing it.

No problem whatsoever with the music, it really feels good.

I really enjoyed this one. This seems radio ready. I could see it on a movie soundtrack.
