I put the "Unplugged" version to VIDEO "Spread Your Wings & Fly" Unplugged VIDEO(c)2010 Steve Altonian Mama’ pulls a letter from a locket box, yellow, faded, & worn Slips it to Tessie suitcase by the door Grandma’ gave this to me long ago when I was ‘bout your age Words of love & wisdom I saved just for today Spread your wings & fly Now’s your time to shine Precious doves don’t belong on the ground Don’t be afraid of heights Spread your wings & fly Choose a man who will treat you right find you one who will wait Remember what the Bible says & don’t ever lose your faith When you raise up a family teach your children what’s right The greatest gift you can give them is giving of your time Spread your wings & fly Now’s your time to shine Precious doves don’t belong on the ground Don’t be afraid of heights Spread your wings & fly A little girl & her Mama’ laughing in the rain Tessie guards an heirloom she’ll share with her one day Spread your wings & fly Now’s your time to shine Precious doves don’t belong on the ground Don’t be afraid of heights Spread your wings & fly Soar where eagles cry Keep dreams & a song in your heart Let them be your guide Don’t be afraid of heights Now’s your time to shine Spread your wings & fly Spread your wings & fly Spread your wings & fly

I like both but not sure if the piano works with the guitar as one seems to be muddying up the other a little.

Yeah, I threw this mix up real quick. I forgot to mention this my initial non automated mix and wanted feedback. I mixed this manually on my TASCAM DP24 as my MAC is in the shop, so I can't access my DAW at the moment. We are going to mix on his DAW... He has another mix where he lowered the guitars and the piano takes over in it's sonic space without noticing. Now that you say that, I’m gonna make a mental note of that. Thanks Vic

Steve,
I'm sure you can polish the mix a bit, but man, these lyrics are absolutely beautiful and capture the listener's heartstrings. Honestly, not sure with this sentiment it is needed to have the climactic key change at the ending. I think "maybe" that this song's heartfelt lyrics are just better off fading more softly which IMO would symbolize and portray the significance of the Grandmother's passing on her virtuous wisdom and love..........
Great job,

Pretty Steve. Lovely to listen to.
I agree about the mix though. I think that if you EQ'd it and dropped the mids and lows very slightly that it would make the guitar crisper and sound more like it is "in the room" with the singer.
Pretty song nonetheless.

Thanks for the LYRIC crit. Personally, because of content & contest, I think this is my best LYRIC... I told him we were probably going to "lose" the modulation in this version. When I play it live acoustically, like you I don't NEED to modulate, plus these days hitting that A note on the transition ain't easy. I wrote the original chart with the mod, but told him to play around with it both ways...Apparently he didn't listen & was eager to show me his guitar parts. But he tracked it so well with the Mod, I just went with it. My intent was to not have the modulation on this version...But I wrote the chart out with it, so I guess I should have written it without it. But you are right, it is more intimate without the mod...Maybe for version 3....LOL

Both are very good Steve but my preference is for version 1. It's a great song either way you jump Best of luck with it John

The fully arranged version is fine for a big show in a stadium.
The acoustic version is great for an intimate concert.

Hi Steve Lovely polished song either version. What a great vocal and the acoustic sounds nice too. I just wish the hook was a little more unique - you know Queen had a famous song with exactly the same title: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyd6OLyhPJoEnjoyed the listen Paul

This guy's video was so insightful regarding managing EQ, that I thought that you would enjoy watching it. I havent seen any of his other videos yet, but if they are as good as this one, he is my new mentor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Gls252xwcc

I enjoyed it.The only line with which I had a problem is "Soar where eagles cry". What does that mean?

I enjoyed it.The only line with which I had a problem is "Soar where eagles cry". What does that mean? FINALLY, someone mentions the LAST CHORUS....FINALLY !!! Funny, I have always been so proud of that line and the following lines because it is a different ending CHORUS. But no one has EVER mentioned it, till you..LOL Could've used "Fly" again, but said it a bunch already in the song...I went with a different word, & in my mind a more Majestic "Cry" The cry of an eagle is powerful & beautiful. And they do "Cry" as they Fly high above where we as humans cannot. Their Cry fills the sky.... So if you soar that high where the eagle are, you will hear the eagles cry...

Thanks for the great comments Hi Steve, All of this is very well, and tastefully done, the lyric, the vocals, the music and the video are seamless. Congratulations. Thanks John, I sure appreciate it. In some ways I’m more proud of the Video.
