Hi All
This is my thinking from '07. It hasn't changed!

Made In America

Remember when your neighbors
Cast an evil eye
When you bought a foreign car
And passed the ones here by
Now they say, ďBut itís made hereĒ
I really want to know
After all is said and done
Where do the profits go

Made in America---------------------------- {Chorus
Was something said with pride
Before big bucks and politicians
Took us for a ride
They gave rewards to foreigners
To help them compete
Now our jobs and businesses
Are left out on the street

Americaís been up for sale
For way too long I think
Itís time for common men like us
To start to raise a stink
Tax the imports like they do
The ones we send to them
Tax companies that donít build here
Thatís what I recommend

Made in America---------------------------- {Chorus
Was something said with pride
Before big bucks and politicians
Took us for a ride
They gave rewards to foreigners
To help them compete
Now our jobs and businesses
Are left out on the street

Pass the laws it takes to put us on our feet------------------- {Bridge
Donít sell out our country donít admit defeat

Instrumental Break

Made in America---------------------------- {Chorus
Was something said with pride
Before big bucks and politicians
Took us for a ride
They gave rewards to foreigners
To help them compete
Now our jobs and businesses
Are left out on the street

Made in America can once again
Be said with all our pride

Well enough written John. The subject matter may be overdone. It starts to feel like a letter to the editor rather than a song.

Sounds a little fanciful, John.
Can you think of a time when big bucks and politicians haven't controlled
what is made anywhere?
People in some parts of the world always blame the other parts for not pulling their weight.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the read and the comments, but isn't that what protest songs are supposed to do, inform the masses?

Hi Vic,
Thanks for the read. The facts are tough to dispute. American polititions haven't signed one trade agreement since the end of WWII that has been good for American workers, businesses, or the American people. Everything signed has favored the country or countries it was signed with. If everything signed had been equal trade agreements America would be in much better shape than it is now.

"isn't that what protest songs are supposed to do, inform the masses?" The masses are already too informed. It isn't 60's Dylan vinyl. Ten minutes after something happens the world knows. Need a new medium for the message.

And even with all the "Media and Press and Streaming", the masses remain uninformed. Most Americans today have no clue as to why their jobs were outsourced or their products come from where they do. I have found my new medium, it's called the internet and streaming, and different sites. No, it's not vinyl, even though that's making a comeback, it's todays equivalent to vinyl.

Hi again, John.

As long as facts are taking in their entirety that's great but fact A minus fact B is dogma.
I'm not in a position to know all the facts but most show that the US is the wealthiest country in the world so they can't be doing that badly.

Creatively, your lyric looks more of a rant than a song.

Maybe, Let's agree to disagree :-) .Vic

Hi Vic,
If you look at the national debt, and the trade deficits, you get a totally different picture, that means A&B. Our great great grandchildren will be paying for what's been overspent for decades.
I fact check, something few do these days, so not a rant, but a factual protest song. We can use more of those, But ageeing to disagree is fine too.

John.
Perhaps I was a little harsh but I'm not saying your intention was to have a rant.
Just that it comes over a bit like that. To me anyway and maybe others.
But, you are entitled to protest.

Hi Vic,
No problem. To be honest, protest songs are usually not interesting, except to the people who see the problem, maybe only after hearing the song. So it can sound like a rant to others, but a shared pain in the butt to those affected. Many Americans today are starting to feel like this, at least those who have to work for a living.

I get what Vic says about this being a bit of a lecture, but I think it still works as a protest song, particularly if it has a catchy sing-along tune attached to it. It has a simple message, which is clearly expressed.

This line seems a bit weak: "They gave rewards to each and all." Who are "each and all?" How about something like, "They gave rewards to fat cats." As well as being more forceful, "fat cats" is fun to sing with both alliteration and assonance.

Thanks John,
Most first world countries are having a hard time. It's hard enough to compete with products when the manufacturers there only pay there workers pennies an hour, let alone when they tax products coming into their countries exorbitantly. Personally, I believe America can grow or build anything we need. I also think we should, until trade balances out. But I am a minority.

Hi Gavin,
Good to hear from you again. Thanks for the comments, and the suggestion. I changed that line to end with foreigners above. Fat cats does roll off the tongue but foreigners expresses what I want to saymore.
