https://soundcloud.com/wabash-cannibal/lead-me-when-im-lost-demLead Me When I’m Lost When my will is broke and worry fills my brow Burdens weigh me down and I can’t bear the cost Tell me that you hear me now And lead me when I’m lost When I’m wand’ring in an unfamiliar land Life’s a mountaintop I lack the strength to cross Tell me that you’ll take my hand And lead me when I’m lost Lead me when I’m lost Lead me when I’m lost In a midnight meadow Shield me from all shadow Lead me when I’m lost
When my soul’s a ship that seeks a friendly port Both the wind and waves have left me torn and tossed Tell me that you hear me, Lord And lead me when I’m lost Lead me when I’m lost Lead me when I’m lost If my faults should blind me Let your blessings find me Lead me when I’m lost May your goodness guide me Let your will be mine tonight May you walk beside me Let your mercy shine tonight And lead me when I’m lost Lead me when I’m lost In a midnight meadow Shield me from all shadow Lead me when I’m lost
Lead me when I’m lost Lead me when I’m lost…

Hey Robert,
I scanned the LYRIC first & immediately saw the TITLE in the VERSES as well...Normally a no-no...Almost always a no-no...Almost...But not on this song, the extra repetition serves this song well, because of the Genre...
As I listened to the tune, I quickly took off my Songwriters hat, & went into Artist mode. I do Country Music, but I am really a Country & Christian Artist. My gifts in music were birthed & developed in the Church. I have led worship for many years in a few different Churches, being responsible for song choices. Song choices are not something I take lightly, it is everything. I learned after much trial & error what will get a reaction from the congregation, & what won't. In addition, over my lifetime, (not so much now) I have traveled extensively & I have sang thousands of times in different Churches nationwide as a solo Artist. In days gone by I was heavily in demand & sang at huge Conferences. I have even been blessed to have performed at The San Diego Sports Arena in front of 20,000 plus people...I've been on the platform with some big time preachers, & Christian Artists. I am very familiar with this Genre.
The message in a Gospel song reigns supreme, & the message in this song is one of hope that no matter how far you wandered, or what you messed up or blew, you will be led & found by Him when you are lost. The songs melody is beautiful & the arrangement builds to a huge ending. Endings are very important in a Gospel/Christian song. If I sang this at any of the above mentioned venues, or any Church today, the Congregation would have their hands raised, tears streaming down their face, & be up out of their seats singing "Lead me when I'm lost" before I finished the 1st CHORUS.
It would bring the house down...
Great Gospel write by you & Al

This is a wonderful song. I'd say it's crossover, through the years, or bridge over troubled waters.
What a terrific talent Al is. All those subtle chord changes and his sincere voice. You can't buy that in a demo.
Only nit was I wanted the chorus to continue. By the second and third time around it finds its way anyway.
Terrific.

I thought this was a great tune. I keyed on the music more than the lyric, as I don't have much knowledge in gospel style lyric writing. That being said, I thought the tune was very well done. Loved when the backup vocals come in, nice sing along stuff. Enjoyed the arrangement and the way it built over the entirety of the song, with the overdriven guitar coming in towards the end. Really good stuff. Loved the dynamics at the end, getting soft again. Well arranged song. Nicely done.
I'm not sure I agree with Fdem, that with this lyric, it works as a cross-over song. Musically, it certainly could.

Thanks folks. I think Al is about ten years older than me. He comes from that era when they really knew how to put a song together. A musician's musician. And he not only has a great voice, he's a great singer. Someone with a good voice but no soul is a tall guy who can't make a basket. I'm proud to have been involved with the song.

Good old gospel. I love the message, the music, all around good song. I write gospel myself, pretty often. It's one of my favorite genres.

Great song, very reflective and inspiring. I too love the vocals. Can't add anything much more to the great comments above. Thanks for sharing, Skip

Robert & Al ...
A simply wonderful song and presentation. Super lyric and excellent music to support it. And Al's vocal is superlative. Love the guitar instrumental. There's nothing I could say that would improve this in any way.
Not in tonal characteristic, but in terms on phrasing and intonation, Al reminded me a bit of Larry Gatlin.
Excellent work by both of you! Be safe ...
Alan

It may be a gospel tinged lyric but I don't see it as strictly gospel, I hear Kenny Rogers when AL sings... Hey you light up my life is crossover too it works as a relationship and spiritual
It's a solid lyric as well with the alliteration title
And yes I forgot to mention that emotional guitar solo, you can call him Al....
