That Wasn't In Our Plans I wrote and recorded this back in 2013. Please keep in mind, this is NOT about what caused the breakup; rather, dealing with the sense of loss caused by the breakup. And yes, i do tend to bring the drums a little more forward in the mix than many folks do. Link: https://soundcloud.com/alananddi/that-wasnt-in-our-plansThat Wasn’t In Our Plans © 2012 Alan D. David, BMI (v1) We talked about all the years ahead And we ignored what the all doubters said We partied on the beach, Casablanca later on We owned the world till everything went wrong CHORUS The morning dew, the twilight glow, the ocean and the sands We had the world in our grasp right there in our hands But there you are and here I am That wasn’t in our plans INSTRUMENTAL VERSE (v2) Our dreams were big we wanted everything No holding back, take all the world would bring Love filled the air, it hovered all around Till one day it all came crashing down REPEAT CHORUS The morning dew, the twilight glow, the ocean and the sands We had the world in our grasp right there in our hands But there you are and here I am That wasn’t in our plans BRIDGE Then right before our eyes it somehow fell apart Miles between us now as we’re patching up our hearts REPEAT CHORUS The morning dew, the twilight glow, the ocean and the sands We had the world in our grasp right there in our hands But there you are and here I am That wasn’t in our plans

Hello 2 Singers,
Been here many years & I don't believe we've met, or I've ever heard your material. I am eating hot wings while I listen & not looking at the lyric sheet. I'm not in the mood to break down lyrics tonight.
This tune has a great vibe, my first impression is the track is rockin. The music style is something I am unfamiliar with, but I loved it....You mentioned you like the drums hot, but on this one to me it is the Bass that is competing with the lead VOX more than the drums. I would have liked more presence in the lead VOX. I was straining to understand what the lead VOX was singing in a few lines. Maybe on future recordings, I would suggest moving closer to the mic & sing soft just as you did in this one. I would suggest you get an inch from the wind screen..It's very unforgiving, but your voice will sit a bit better in the mix...That is so subjective, I get it. I personally get up on the mic in the studio
Everything else production wise is impeccable & very, very impressive...
That said, as I was eating my wings the next song up was "Good Ol' Girl", & I listened 3X... The play on words with that TITLE, instead of "Good Ole' Boy" makes the tune immediately recognizeable...The track is smoking & that song is fabulous...
Hey, how did you get 2 reviews on 1 thread?

Hi Al:
Really enjoyed my listen. As usual, it has your signature style written all over every line and note. Don't be a stranger.
Great to hear you again. -----Dave

I like the song and arrangement. I agree that the vox, as an important part of a ballad needs bringing up a little in the mix.

Vic ... Thanks for the listen & feedback. Glad the song pleased you, on general. I no longer have the original tracks ... just the final stereo mixd But, with a little EQ shuffling, perhaps I can give the vocal a little more prominence. I'll see what i can do. Thanks again, Enjoy your weekend ... Alan

Steve ... Good morning! Thanks for giving this a spin and the constructive feedback ... much appreciated. I've been a member here since Feb 2001 ... almost 20 years. I was once very active here ... was a Top 10 poster for a long time. But I pretty much left the site for a number of years for various reasons. But I plan on being more active. The music style/genre is Smooth R&B. My wife and I do a lot of it. A strong bass line and percussions is pretty common in the genre. As I told Dave above, I no longer have the original tracks ... just the final stereo mix. But some delicate EQ work might bring the vocal a little more forward and render it more distinct. The style usually features, warm. smooth vocals that are very soft. But, I'll see what I can do by touching up the vox with some EQ play. We lost a folder with about 20 songs in it a few years back. All the individual tracks for those were also lost. Our computer declared war on us and corrupted all the files in that folder. We also had the files on a memory stick. It happened to be plugged into the computer when it fried and everything on the stick was also lost. So we now have our songs on the internal HD, a memory stick and an external HD we remove from the computer as soon as we are finished saving the songs. So, a number of tracks I may post in the future are pretty much going to be as they are due to the unavailability of the individual tracks. As far as my voice ... I'm not really a singer. Typically, I only sing when I exercise a moment of bad judgment or if there's someone i want to irritate. I'm almost 74 years old, so I doubt my voice will get any better! But, I'll soon post another song where my vocal is a little more crisp. Again, many thanks for tuning in and for the suggestions and nice comments. Be safe ... Alan
