Thank you everyone for the suggestions on the tune as I was working it out. Early versions were not working too well & I almost scrapped the whole project. A week ago this wasn't even on my list of songs to ever redo, let alone a VIDEO, & here is the end result. "Cry of the Young" VIDEO "Cry of the Young"(c)1997 Steve Altonian On a cold hard city night There’s kids at play playing with guns & knives Someones child dies Battle lines are being drawn City streets blast out the sound of war Someone pays the cost When you look around you can see the cry of the young Lives are over before they ever get to start If you listen really hard you hear the cry of the young Things aren’t how they used to be In a land of locked doors & broken dreams Someones mother cries Heading down a one-way road In search of something that they can’t find at home Someones baby’s lost When you look around you can see the cry of the young Lives are over before they ever get to start If you listen really hard you hear the cry of the young

Liked it Steve.
You got a good result with what you had to work with on the music and the video was emotionally compelling and seemed pretty seamless. Well done.

Martin Thanks Martin...Another songwriting thread & Deej from here REALLY helped me with this track. The whole last half of the song had a different beat (RAP, TECHNO?) & they stayed on me on it...So I re-did the drums/bass for the last half. At first I resisted.... But....I had to really consider their critique...When a couple people start telling you the same thing, you may want to listen...

I never would've thought this song would end up with this video...How our world has changed...

Steve,
The final mix came out really well—cool work with the video. Compelling. I hope this does well for you . . . so good luck with the pitch opportunity. It's deserving of the attention.
Best regards,
Deej

Best regards,
Deej You & Vic were really helpful on this song as I was pushihg to get this done. You were the first to point out the drums & at the time the back half of this song WAS NOT COMING together...Originally this was going to a rapper & I had the "bright" idea of 2 drummers going at the same time. At parts was "super cool", at other parts "super busy"... I looked at the crits from here & elsewhere on the drums & realized the TECHNO/RAP beat I originally had was a total misfire...About 4-5 people mentioned the same thing about the drums elsewhere, so clearly I had an issue. But to fix after the fact? NOT SO EASY. Obviously since I replaced the drums, I now gotta replace the bass. But, had to be done. When 4-5 people mention the same issue, I may have an issue... I appreciate not getting an "atta boy"...This song didn't need an "atta boy", it needed the drums to be fixed Thanks for the crit

Hi Steve I noticed this is dated 1997? It eens nothing changes even going back to 1969 and Elvis'In the Ghetto. I think it's a good all round song. The chorus is good and works well IMHO. Emotionally charged and timeless, sadly. Regards John

Emotionally charged and timeless, sadly. Regards John Morning Travis, I wrote the song as a TITLE TRACK for a play with the same name...My daughter came up to me a month ago & said I "had to" re-do & update "Cry of the Young" in light of world circumstances. As she spoke I heard the phrase "Out of the mouth of babes" & I took it as a sign, so I went to work. Wasn't even on my radar at all to ever sing again, let alone cut & put to VIDEO...

I like the way you put that video together. No jumping from one place to another unless you needed to jump from one place to another. Good work all round.
