This song has no connection with the virus apart from leaving me with a little more time to have idle thoughts.
"I confess", was such a thought. The song was built up around it.
Is this "Americana", "Folk Rock" or something else?
Your thoughts are welcome again.

I confess ©2020 Vic Arnold

I lost track
Lost track of the worthy cause
Tore up the plan of what I was aiming for
I got myself in a mess
But I've learned to live again
I confess

So take a chance.
Take a chance and I'll tell you true
there is nothing, nothing I won't do for you
Now I redress
Sweep away the heartaches
and regrets
Ch.
I must confess ...
all that time I spent without you
... was wasted.
No happiness
since your lips were tasted
How could I forget forget
I confess
Inst.
Br.
So what now?
Now that we found the truth.
Do we take it all for granted,
The things that lovers do?
Ch.

Id say it's Americana. The track is nice, lyrically I think you're being too abstract and vague, especially when your speaking one on one with somebody. If I confess is your hook, I think more detail of what you did would be helpful.

You're a song veteran so I won't try to teach, it just seems like I confess is being highlighted but nobody knows what your confessing.

Enjoyed the tune and the harmonies.

Thanks for the comment and the sugg. Mr. F.

I suppose having the lyrics laid out here invite a little surgery.
My take is that, as you say it's between two people and I didn't think the nitty gritty of what he's confessing about really matters.
It may not even be polite to divulge. :-0
I have to think about that.

Hi Vic:

Enjoyed your song... and confession very much. As Toby Keith would say... "This ain't no thinkin' thing!" Confess as often as your heart desires... LOL! I do my best to not let my mind get caught up in the details of a new song... 'cause you have the ability to do what most of us only dream... and that is a real gift.

Best of luck with it. ----Dave

Pretty music Vic. Lyrics are nice but imo the vocal melody needs to be reworked.

Hi Martin.

Thanks for listening and your observations.
Any particular part of the melody or all of it?
Not sure how I could do that as the melody came to me along with the lyric.

Love that Acoustic Guitar. Definately "Americana." Great recording and mix. I love the vocal melody and your vocal is always top notch. Good stuff. For me though it is that acoustic guitar that drives this tune.

Nice write

Thanks for dropping by, Dave.
My vocal is shakier than it used to be but in some ways it's better.

Vic,

I love the songóthe lyrics and the melody. It's a terrific write--and I don't think there's a need to be specific about what's being confessed--the particulars aren't relevant; the sentiment resonates. While I really liked the song as is, there's something about it that doesn't quite click--almost as if the musical bed at times and in small spots doesn't quite sync with the melody. And perhaps thatís what Martin is keying on (though I disagree the vocal melody itself needs work).

The vocal is super strong as always, but maybe the backing is slightly busy? Just offering up my thoughts and reactions for what little help they may be. As Eddie says, use or lose. Again, it's a strong track regardless--great outing.

Best regards,

Deej

I like this a lot, Vic. One of my favorites of yours. The words feel like they are from the heart, deceptively simple and moving.

Mostly, I really like the melody. For me, the verses are stronger than the chorus. Maybe Martin is referring to that minor chord on the word "confess" in the first line of the chorus, which doesn't feel quite right to me, and it doesn't really get back to the sweet spot until "No happiness."

Why do they call this style "Americana?" LOL. Shouldn't it be Cymriana or something for you?

Hi Deej.
They are busy guitars, but I like that in this as it's a counterpoint to the vocal which is my lazy opposite of that.
There was a electric piano playing a funky jazz thing in there too which may have muddied up the mix a little so I removed that.
The whole should be better synched now. What do you think?

Thanks for lending your ears to it and the tip off.

Vic

Thanks Gavin.
I wasn't completely happy with that chord there myself so thanks for the nudge into ditching it.
Does it sound better now?

"Americana" ? Who knows? I looked it up once and got "anything American".
Well there are guitars in it and the style isn't Celtic. I would have said "Folk Rock" but I'm told that's out of fashion.
If I sang it in Welsh it would definitely be "Cymriana" though.

Hi Vic.

I enjoyed this'n. It sounds like a Kris Kristofferson vibe to me. He had a vibe all to himself somewhere between Country and Folk--So let us title it "Folk-Country." Nice job!

Good song and an unusual one from you this time Vic
Thoughtful, evocative lyrics very much in the JC mode it sounded to me.
Yes a good one

Vic,

Itís been a bit since I listened to the original version, but listening to this one, it sounds pretty smooth. I think it was indeed that funky piano that was throwing things off for me. Nice adjustment.

I confess . . . it sounds great!

Hope all is good with you,

Deej

Just Plain Quotes
"Defeatist Pessimists and Rose Colored Glasses Optimists are lonely companions, victims even. Both ideologies imply predestined outcomes, and therefore breed inactivity in its victims.
