Running out of tiles LOL

https://soundcloud.com/gerry-cooper-855281238/brass-monkeys

A brass Monkey is a brass plate with 16 indentations on it to house 16 cannon balls. So you would have a layer of 16 balls then 9, then 4 and finally 1 to make a pyramid of 30 cannon balls. These were placed next to each cannon on old war ships. Brass contracts more than steel in extremely cold weather and if it was cold enough it would shrink so much that the cannon balls would roll off the brass plate. Hence the saying "It was cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey". In later years it just became an expression to use when it was extremely cold, as in answer to the question what's the weather like? Reply "It's as cold as brass Monkeys". Now you may ask is this true? My information is that it is but if it isn't its a lovely story.

Best,

Gerry

Hi Gerry:

I really enjoyed this relaxing brass extravaganza... and believe you've created another winner. Titles can be difficult sometimes... and I enjoyed your narrative about the Navy in the days of our John Paul Jones. Most of our American Naval terms and expressions came directly from the British Navy... but I had never heard this one.
Thanks for sharing and I have no doubt the expression is true.

The title did not match the creativity of the work... but sometimes, the title is so interesting, a producer or movie-cue "scout" will listen because of the title. I hope it works for you. Send more our way... and stay safe.

----Dave

Very well done. Mix is pristine. You can hear everything so cleanly. All instruments well placed in the soundscape. Very very relaxing. Enjoyed it.

Gerry,

Nice mix, very chill—feels like it could serve well as the backing track to a modern day film noir.
Wonderful production on this--crystal ! Enjoyed it!

All my best,

Deej

Thanks Dave on the title I was thinking of perhaps Brass Tacks but couldn't find any decent images. Then Brass Monkeys came to mind and I researched it a little and thought that will do fine. Remember a track called Green Onions from way back in 1962 by Booker T, the title had absolutely nothing to do with the music but it was an enormous hit. Anyway like you say someone might just spot if for the Title so hears hoping LOL.

Best Gerry

Best of luck with your next stage, pitching promoting?

It's always an enjoyable listen when I click on your music Gerry! Had an image of a gentleman in a 1950's movie in a bar nursing a drink in a dark corner while waiting for his bit on the side. Unfortunately his wife walks in with another man that she's having an affair with! LOL!

P.S. I think you should call it Brass Onions or Green Monkeys!

Yeah, that is really clean. It always amazes me how guys write parts for strings & Brass. This is really well thought out arrangement-wise.

Nice creation, you should be proud of this one

"A lot of people will tell you that preparation is what will make you successful. But I think that people misunderstand exactly what that means sometimes. The type of preparation you need most is the kind that allows you to instantly seize an opportunity, change your course based on a momentary circumstance, and grab hold of the totally unexpected when it happens, and allow it to take you for the ride of your life! That is the kind of preparation that can lead to the most enjoyable type of success." -Brian Austin Whitney
