A would-be hunter grabbed his spear, “Sacrifice may someday cost Then the hunter and the Kudu some meat for dinner was his goal, my life but I will never fear watched together from afar, Little did he know the feast For doing so I guarantee Far across the yawning chasm planned for today was for his soul. the lives of those I hold so dear. stood hyenas, mouths ajar.
Passing through a grassy meadow Simple faith can make a difference, Cheering loud in celebration he was startled by a sound, this I hope you’ve learned from me, as the pack turned ‘round to go, Straight ahead an injured Kudu For the hunter now is hunted, Soberness returned to both limped across the rugged ground. turn around and you will see.” as they were standing toe to toe.
Carrying a lifted foreleg Spinning round the boy then saw The hunter with his spear in hand as a wounded prey will do, the large hyenas all around glanced to it’s keenly sharpened blade, Carefully the watchful Kudu Trapped between them and the gorge Then he turned to face the Kudu kept the boy within her view. there was no safety to be found. that had rendered selfless aid.
Swiftly now he ran to catch her Growling, snapping, ever forward, What could make you think your aid with his spear raised for the kill, crept the pack much closer near, would save you from my spear? Cleverly she kept the boy Young and overwhelmed the boy Do you think I can resist in close pursuit straight up a hill. was clearly conquered by his fear. a tasty prey that stands so near?
Faster now the pair was running, “Listen boy! Move quickly now! “You exercised your faith and did not one inch the boy did gain, And do exactly what I say! just what I said for you to do, Soon the hunter grew suspicious You have to make a leap of faith Doing so you learned that faith of this Kudu feigning pain. for it is now the only way! and trust would always see you through,
As they reached a gaping gorge Turn around my boy and face me, Now I stand here right before you she leapt across it easily, run as fast as you can go, as your friend or as your prey, Standing safely at a distance Leap as though you mean to fly Exercising faith and trust told the hunter candidly, and leave your earthly home below! that you’ll not take my life today.
‘You came close to what was hidden Hyenas pounced just as the boy The hunter raised his deadly spear in the grasses very near began to make his turn around, and held it high into the air, Nestled warm my babies shivered Then the lead attacker grabbed him Then with both hands plunged it deep violently from mortal fear. just before he left the ground, into the dirt and left it there.
Friend or foe, there was no time Hyena jaws were firmly clamped They would have to take the long way to wait and see which came to call, into the breechcloth that he wore, back to where the day began, So I sacrifice myself by Continuing the boy kept running, With the sun new trust and faith running out before them all. finally away it tore! would dawn between both beast and man.
Feigning pain and injury He felt the breath of his attackers I look to be both sick and lame, as they moved in close behind, Luring foes far from my babes As the danger of the chasm then proving I'm not easy game. he was facing came to mind.
“Foolish chances do you take He kept his eyes completely fixed with your own life the hunter said, upon the Kudu as he jumped, Soon will come the dreadful day And gave a yell of pain and joy
