No, this is not a Corona Virus song. Though the title came from thinking about the virus, the song is just a love song. With all the time on my hands, I decided to try and write and perform something a bit different for me. I hope I succeeded.

WE'RE IN THIS TOGETHER
Music & Lyrics by David S. Becker
(c)2020 David S. Becker Music

https://soundcloud.com/gocartmoz/were-in-this-together

VERSE 1
I donít like telling anybody that itís my fault (No I donít)
But baby thatís my point of view
Got to tell you baby
Iíll be leaving in the morning on the next plane (Yes I will)
Thereís just something Iíve got to do
And Iíve got to tell you baby

CHORUS
I know youíre alone
But I donít pick up the phone
And say I love you
When I come home at night
I donít kiss you goodnight
Or hug you
I want to get it right
I want to stay in this and fight
And stay together
But I know I was wrong
Please try and hold on
Iím begging
Weíre in this together

VERSE 2

Sometimes things they get so crazy (They really do)
Baby thatís not on you
Gonna try and make it better
I took things for granted way too long (I really did)
Now I know what I must do
Let me tell you baby

CHORUS 2
When I know youíre alone
Iím gonna pick up the phone
And say I love you
When I come home at night
Iím gonna kiss you goodnight
And hug you
Iím gonna get this right
I will stay in this and fight
Weíll be together
Cause I know I was wrong
Theyíll be no moving on
I love you
Weíre in this together

BRIDGE
I'm going back to the place
Where we laughed a lot
But I'll be coming back real soon
Thankful for what I've got
Memories fade from view
And sometimes we lose what's real
I've got to get them back
Because that's how you make me feel

CHORUS 2
When I know youíre alone
Iím gonna pick up the phone
And say I love you
And when I come home at night
Iím gonna kiss you goodnight
And hug you
Iím gonna get this right
I will stay in this and fight
Weíll be together
Cause I know I was wrong
I'm not moving on
I love you
Weíre in this together

Oh yeah! I love the cool mellow vibe! My only concern would be that it's a bit long. Other than cutting the bridge in half, I'm not sure what I would do about that, as I would hate to cut anything else.

And yes, you succeeded smile

Very cool and soulful, Dave.
I would fatten up the snare a tad though.

Vic

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

Hi David,

I really like this R & B song you did, especially the organ. This sounds just like a song Mick Hucknall (hope I spelled his name right) with Simply Red would do. They were a favorite of mine especially when they first started out. Really mellow tune. I love it.

Hey Dave,

A really nice R&B song. I listened a coupled of times as I liked your performance and arrangements with a lot of reverb, but works with the R & B.

After listening to the chorus, I felt like after the launch of those first three lines the chorus melody there was a begging to hear that repeat melody "milking" that chorus hook. When you change-up the melody going up on "hug," which is lifting, you then follow-up with another 2nd lifting melody. I think you could simplify that chorus hook by just letting the "I'm going to do this right etc." be the lift, then followed as you have with the chorus "resolve." JMO, as I think you'll accentuate your chorus launch hook and simplify the chorus musically.

I always look forward to your composing/arranging, and you have another good one here!

Thx for the listen Gavin. Yeah - it is kind of long and I didnít even include an intro or solo, which usually accompany my tunes. You should have heard the 8 minute version. smile

Thx for the spin and commenting.

Stay safe

Hi Jane. Thx for the listen. Love Holding Back The Years, though sad to say not much familiar with other Simply Red stuff. Holding Back the Years stands up as a classic in my book though. thx for taking the time to listen and comment. Much appreciated.

For some reason the rest of my reply was deleted Eddie. Weird. Anyway, just to clarify, are you saying try it by deleting the "hug" line? Wasn't sure I followed your suggestion. Anyway, once again always appreciate your comments

Dave,

Not at all saying get rid of the hug line lyrically. When you begin the chorus melody with those first three lines, you've established a great hook and I think it feels like it should be fully repeated a 2nd time melody-wise. When you have a great hook--"milk it."

Keep melody in last three lines below the same as first three lines-that melody pulls you in and hooks you--don't abandon it so early, too "resolving" to do so IMO.

PC

I know youíre alone
But I donít pick up the phone
And say I love you
When I come home at night
I donít kiss you goodnight
Or hug you (match/repeat above "I love you melody--which will "empower" your next line's lift--don't need a pre-lift)?

C

Iím gonna get this right (let this line be the break away/lifting melody line and keep as is)
I will stay in this and fight
Weíll be together
Cause I know I was wrong
Theyíll be no moving on
I love you
Weíre in this together

Perhaps I'm being too conventional, concerning chorus hook--just expressing what I"m hearing that I think could better take advantage of your hook by just keeping it more musically simple. I'm a fan of your music, you know that, else I wouldn't probably delve so much here.

Dave,

Definitely something different from you . . . but very cool. Percussion is great (maybe a bit too sharp), but really drives the tuneólike how you drop it in the bridge. And your vocal is sweet; sits nicely in the mix. Personally, Iím never much worried about the length of a songóas long as it keeps the listener engaged. . . and I think this one does. And like Gavin, Iím not sure what Iíd cut even if you wanted to.

Good stuff, Dave! Nice to see you back on the board.

All my best,

Deej

Lots of soul put into this one - nice!
Yeah maybe a tad long but I think maybe it's OK in a chill track.
Good vocals and guitar work and the B3 sounds good too.
How about some female ooo's in there and go full motown? smile

enjoyed it - nice one smile

I wanna hear some rock n roll! Electric geeters, poundin drums says the boss..

This is good stuff, it's kind of like 70's soul, and real mellow and sounds great, I like what you're doing in the acoustic too.

All excellent, just want to hear da rock n roll

Hey Fdem ... 70's soul is exactly what I was going for, so I guess there is some success with at least that goal. Next one will be a Rocker. Thanks for the spin.

Can't be too long as I listened to all of it LOL. Enjoyed it, just needs a touch of lead guitar or some tenor sax and bingo.

Stay Safe,

Gerry

Wow Dave this is the kinda stuff I like, A great smooth soul sound. It has a timeless feel to it, these songs are still being played night and day on many radio stations.. Pitch it!
The best song I've heard today
Regards
John

John,

Thx as well. Yeah, this has always been one of my favorite genres. Living right outside of Philadelphia, Pa. while growing up gave me access to a tremendous amount of Philly soul. That sound was the inspiration. Thx for giving it a spin.
