I've had this crazy 7/4 riff in my head for a year now - maybe it will leave me alone now that's it's been set free.
Any comments/suggs welcome smile

A Cut Above

I've seen love take it slow
I've seen love do-si-do
I've seen love fade away
I've seen love outstay its stay
I've seen love work a charm
I've seen love doing harm
I've seen love make me sad
I've seen love drive me mad

But our love is a cut above.

Morning, Paul:

Creativity is never "on-call"... it just comes and goes as it pleases. I need to take more time to listen and absorb where it appears to be taking you. No doubt, it has potential. One of the nagging questions for me... is a riff enough? Do the words need more work? Only you can determine this... but it certainly deserves that extra mile this thing will require of you. Keep at it, my friend. Thanks for sharing.

----Dave

Hi Paul again,

I just listened to your other posted waltz song. Talk about an 180 degree change in direction! Hey this is again which is a trademark of yours, cleverly composed. I do have a sug for you with the vocals--add a little edginess and experiment with some over-kill delay effects. I think with this song vibe this will envelope those vocals better IMO within this "driving" mix a bit better as well as add some needed texture. Having said that, it is not a nit, more of a production sug--use or lose.

Good stuff here again from you Paul!

This is the opening of a new James Bond movie.

I find unusual time signatures disconcerting, so it took about a minute for my brain to accept it smile. When it did, I enjoyed this. Seems you can turn your hand to just about anything, Paul. And yes, it does belong in the next James Bond movie.

Thanks Dave - you're right about creativity. - she comes and goes as she pleases smile I think I've done as much as I want to on this one. Thanks for listening smile

Cheers steady-eddie and thanks for the vox suggestion. I have added some echo in the verses - hopefully that helps. Maybe I'll try some distortion too - I don't have a lot of tools for that though. Appreciate the kind remarks too.

Hi vic - funny you should mention JB - I wrote this to be included on a No Time to Die album for another forum. Someone said it didn't sound like a Bond theme - so you made my day smile

Thanks Gavin - yeah I venture into prog rock (well at least my version of it smile ) now and then. Thanks for the positive feedback smile

Wow Paul ... Welcome to "And now for something completely different!" I never pictured a tune like this coming from you, having had the benefit of listening to many of your songs. I always thought they were genius stuff. This is a new type of genius. Paul's psychedelic phase. I loved it. I really really liked the music. I think I'd have liked it better as an instrumental. Vic is right on point with it being the opening of a James Bond film. Great stuff.

Hi Paul,

Would sound great even without the vocal part - a great instrumental track and you most certainly have a handle on your production skills. Which reminds me I have to work on mine.

Cheers Dave (GoCartMoz) Ha yeah monty python said it right. Sometimes we wander off the beaten path - like your R&B number - it was awesome! Might do an instrumental - it was fun to do the music and the lyrics pretty underwhelming smile Thanks for the suggestion smile

Thanks Jane! I've still got lots to learn about production too. Appreciate the kind remarks smile

Paul,

I had meant to chime in on this the other night . . . not sure how I missed doing so. BUT, I think this is pretty amazing. From a musical/production level, there are so many layers working here, and they blend brilliantly. Iím not quite sure the vocals quite sit ideally on the mix; and maybe the organ/synth (?) Is a tad heavy? But that said, itís all nitís really . . . and, WOW, that little piano riff you are running with that ends the song. . . very cool. Really liked this oneódifferent from you, but thatís an awesome thing brewing.

My best to you, Paul,

Deej

Hi Paul,

I have to say too that this is completely different. Not my style of song ,but what I heard sounds awesome, brilliant and worthy of me to listen to.

I like in the opening bar(s) piano; I think it was well played. The vocals are very high, confidence and enjoyable I would say that the vocals made the song shines a little more that if their hadn't any. So because of that for me, this song will be in my memory.

I kinda heard a little Led Zeppelin influence on this one. I don't hear a James Bond theme song as it's without a hook. It could work well in a scene as a preamble to something bad happening to a villain or villainess.
