Hi all!
A few weeks ago I offered to help Glynda with the arrangement for her song to play on her radio channel.
Since then I had about two weeks of some horrible virus to get over first.
I cut this down to about half it's original size and added a few lyrics.
Thanks for your previous suggs.

Hearts of Country ©2020 Duncan & Arnold

Intro
Verse I
Echoing through the mountain tops
to the rivers strong and true
Hearts and souls that never mend
The feel of country blues
Stories lived in country life
told from country hearts
Weaving tales of true love's pain
with a storyteller's art

Chorus
Listen to the Hearts of Coun ... try
Take in all you feel
Words that cut you like a knife
Singing words that kill. Yeah!
HOW those WORDS can KILL
Inst.

Verse2
Been there done that in their time
Hard knocks, bittersweet
Sad memories behind those eyes
So hard to repeat
Stories of hard drinking times
and hitching on the road
leaving loved ones far behind
and heroes coming home

Chorus
Listen to the Hearts of Coun ... try
Take in all you feel C G
Words that cut you like a knife
Singing words that kill. Yeah!
HOW those WORDS can KILL

Hi Vic/Glynda,

I like the song and the lyrical concept. I listened three times, as it wasn't pulling me in like I thought it should with this upbeat fiddle vibe. I think its fine, but also think you could perhaps automate the volume (even manually) the fiddler in and out a bit more making it feel more live as if fiddler takes over front man on stage in key areas, especially the solo, but other short spots as well.

Careful not to be too busy with fiddle in chorus when singers expressing song's hook--JMO. I think you're working with BIAB with the fiddler, so not sure how much control you have there. I also thought it might be cool to experiment with having fiddler jump -start the intro, then stopping abruptly with a quick 1/2 beat rest, go into your opening chorus line, as it feels like after that verbal line and pause, the singer should take off rather than the go to music interlude--at song opening, JMO........ and we all express our music art differently. I'm just giving you my thoughts on these areas that might be worth exploring to give the song more zippy-do-dah! Use or lose!

Nice song, nice concept, nice performance Vic!

Thanks for jumping in Ed. Nearly fell off the "what's going on" column.
There seems to be more interest in the Covid 19 thing.

I have done an automated gain on the fiddle but maybe I need to give it a bit more where it matters.
Re the start, I left the vocal off so that Glyn could do her radio introduction voice there.

Hey VIc,

It's all sitting pretty well.

Suggs ? I think the vocal needs more compression to float above the backing track. At some points the fiddle is a bit busy for the vocal line. Remember.... call and response. A couple of edits there I think.

Otherwise, great job !

Thanks nite.
I'm adjusting the fiddle line and will upload the new track shortly.
There is a lot of compression on the vocals already but I'll have another look at it.

Hey Vic and Glyn,

Wow, this sounds great! What a perfect song to use for Glyn's radio show! I can hear it now, being spliced and diced and inserted at the beginning and ending of interviews, as an intro and outro for the show, etc. And, "Listen to the Hearts of Country" is very catchy! It stuck in my head the minute I heard it!

Awesome -- good luck with it!

I gave this one a listen and liked it. You have an ABCAB structure that I would suggest changing to ABABCB. I think your instrumental part would be better paced that way.

You've changed the title from "Hearts Of Country".
It's still "Hearts Of Country" on the written page.
Most people will not 'consume' it from a written page, but aurally, by hearing it on the radio.

When you sing it, the title of the Lyric is now "Words Can Kill".
Giving that Line emphasis as the strategic last Line of the Chorus, left ringing in their ears as the Chorus ends, makes it the main idea of the Song.
It Repeats in a variation, 'words that kill'/'Words Can Kill', further emphasizing that idea as the main concept of the Song.
"Hearts Of Country" will be forgotten as just another Line, somewhere back in the Song.

"Singing words that kill. Yeah!
HOW those WORDS can KILL"

"Words Can Kill" could be abstractly supported by the "Hearts Of Country" concept, but it does not support the "Hearts Of Country" concept in return.
It does not sum up the "Hearts Of Country" idea.

Hi there, Lisa.
Good to see you here.

Thanks for having a listen Summeoyo. Glad you like it.
The structure is actually BABAABB give or take the odd bar. There is no C bridge.

Hi Gary.
First thanks for your comments.
Interesting technical stuff and I can follow your train of thought up to a point but then I have to stop.
The song is to promote Glynda's "Hearts of Country" radio channel.
What people hear most is "Listen to the Hearts of Country". What comes after is "furniture" to use an industry metaphor.

Lisa sums it up very well by her comment:

I want to thank Vic so much for doing this song with me..and I have to admit it is way far and better than I ever thought it would be....but you can see he worked hard on it and put so much magic into it...I can't stop listening to it and can't stop smiling..and oh Lord. The music is still ringing in my head..I love the sound of a fiddle...Thank you Vic for making our song so great...you always make me feel so proud...most of you guys on here are very special to me and I do actually feel we've KNOWN each other forever and even though we've never met I feel so close to you in my heart...I hope that feeling never goes away...and Thank you Brian Whitney for giving us a this chance to even be here in the first place
.AGAIN VIC THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART..YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST ARTIST I KNOW AND I LOVE YOU...

I listened to this a second time last night, and I have to say it has grown on me. I liked it the first time I heard it, but I think it's one of those songs where, once you know the melody, you like it even more. And for me, the hearts of country line is the one that sticks in my head. It might be helped by the fact that the use of the plural is unexpected.

The basics were already laid down. I just jigsawed it together.
I'm happy it turned out the way you wanted.

Thanks for giving me a shot at it.
