My first new demo in over four years. Highlights when intuition tells you that there is nothing left of a broken relationship. Could apply in certain other circumstances as well, such as a parting of the ways after a long-term job ends. See what you think.

TAKE THE PICTURES DOWN

The only way to keep a secret
Is not to tell anyone at all
That I got a different number
On the night when I had made the call

I gave in to the temptation
Just to call and find out how youíve been
So youíre living with a new love now
And Iím on the outside looking in

I guess itís time to
Take the pictures down
Now itís time for me to
Take the pictures down

Getting over a broken romance
Doesnít happen very fast
You must ruthlessly get rid of
Painful reminders of the past

I wonít be reading old love letters
Or looking through old photographs
As Iíd be constantly reminded
Of something I had hoped would last

I guess itís time to
Take the pictures down
Now itís time to
Take the pictures town

Iíll make certain to avoid old haunts
Which are full of memories
Iíll make some social arrangements
Calling friends who aim to please

This is not a time for living
In the past in any way
Yet Iíll still think about our love
Which once appeared so promising

Now, babe, itís time to
Take the pictures down
Yes itís way past time to
Take the pictures down

Likely to go on much longer
As the memories grown stronger
We were just too close together
I canít begin to heal until

I make the time to
Take the pictures down
Yes I must make time to
Take the pictures down

Good song, did you do the demo or is it a hired musician/singer Brian?
Either way it works well with a good lyric
Regards
John

Beechnut79,

I like the acoustic opening, pulls the listener in, anticipating the hook. Terrific vocalóyour singer gets every drop out of this. Itís really nicely done and among the best Iíve heard from you.

From a critique standpoint (and it's really just subjective thing), I'd offer that the chorus wasnít quite as impacting as I was hoping for as a listener . . . I kinda wanted another four lines to extend and complete the chorus. Not sure others would feel the same way. Regardless, it works pretty darn good as is.

Feel good about this one. Itís nicely done! And among the best Iíve heard from you. Good luck with it!

Best regards,

Deej

Hi Brian

Lovely country song. Good vocals and great story line and hook smile
Gets a bit samey by the end - think you could shave off a minute or so unless you stick a solo or bridge in to add some variation.
But I could be wrong about that smile

enjoyed the listen - good stuff.

Thanks for the comments. The demo company I used went out of business and had to latch on to a new one. Am really please and wish to do more with them. If only the cost wasn't so prohibitive, even with volume discounts.

Hey Brian,

Great song. Very bitter sweet. The hook is perfect.

I know it's only a demo, but there are certain places where the prosody is not in place. This may be corrected by the vocalist, or alternatively just re-write to make the words fit.

It's all working for me, I enjoyed the listen. smile

cheers, niteshift

I like the title but this is an example of how not to do a demo. If there are too many words, shorten the line or rephrase it. The music sounds nice though.

Vic

It's never too late? Yes it is, so do it now.

If, given time, a monkey can write the complete works of Shakespeare maybe there's hope for me.

I gave this one a listen as I was curious about the "take the pictures down" theme. Although I liked the general progression of the story, I have a few suggs. On V2B:
So I'll get rid of the old love letters.
And burn the old photographs
As Iíd be constantly reminded
Of something I had hoped would last

Maybe it's my personality - but I'd be more positive about the actions suggested in the chrous:

SO itís time to take the pictures down.
It's time to take the pictures down
I don't need those sad emotions around
It's time to take the pictures down.

After second chorus add a Bridge:
This is not a time for living
In the past in any way
I just can't heal my heart until
I make time to take the pictures down.

End with chorus

Good song BN79..........I like it very much. Good demo performances, and a good lyric.
When you work with the demo "people", do you furnish a melody, as well....of do you leave it up to the artist to create around your lyric? Just wondering ;-)
Anyways........a goodin'

Hi Brian:

This one was written for George Strait and your demo singer "did you proud" in my humble opinion. You've already had some good suggestions so I won't be guilty of "piling-on!" It has great bones, especially with such minimal backing. Best wishes for success with it.

----Dave
