I have many songs to demo, mostly gospel, and I need a demo studio that I can afford. I just lost my demo man who is moving onto other things. I was very happy with his work and I loved his price. I've been checking the net and demo prices have gone out of my price range, especially when I have to pay in US dollars, it cost almost 40% more to convert my Canadian dollars to US dollars.

What is your budget, Everett? What are you looking for - piano and vocals, guitar and vocals, full band?

One great way to get a free demo is....... College recording arts programs..... They are always seeking folks to record. Especially just guitar / vocal or piano / vocal. I've done it several times. Even with full bands. They always have top of the line gear. It's really up to you how good it turns out. I hope I didn't just give away a prized secret, but I've been in your shoes, and I've had luck through the years doing this. Check it out y'all. That's a great idea, Rich. I expect that there might be a chance to do the same kind of thing with videos. I enjoyed the song you linked to.

The type of demo I'm looking for is me sending lyrics and a rough vocal of the song so they know how it is suppose to go and they send me a good version of it. I am not a good musician or singer so I need help doing this. I am not rich and never expect to be, living on pensions. I have spent in a year any where between two to five thousand on a number of demos. The price for demos seem to be escalating faster then the cost of living. I will likely spend about the same but I will be getting less songs done, which is not good because I seem to be writing more and more songs than before.

Mike has been doing that for most non performing songwriters for a long time. Some times I feel like Im wasting my time here, nobody seems to give a chit.

I far as I know Mike Zaneski is no longer doing demos - You have to be careful if you solicit someone online to produce your music - you may not get what you pay for and if they are reasonable they may want the money upfront before they even start.

Did we lose another member? I was wondering I hadnt seen him around here. It may not be worth the time it takes to do the demos he was doing. He did good work for the rates he was charging. I guess all things come to pass. anyway, I find most thing I say nowadays are getting blown off. Guess its time to work on my album, c ya guys!

No FD I didn't ignore you, just forgot to mention that I had used Mike service for several years and I was happy with his work, but I knew he was moving to a new location and a new kind of work, therefore he would not be available for demo work. This is why I need a new demo studio. I wish Michael all the success he deserves in his new adventure.

The people who use a service to do demos become relavent when they have a song to post. Where did Mike go? new job?

He moved to another State and is going to continue in music but not demo work. He's starting or expanding his career which will not give him time to do demo work. Wish you well Michael.

I have done demos but I'm not good at it as I most always want to change it in some way to suit my style. There are some folks that can do a straight copy, melody and lyric but I can't do that. I don't think there's an easy way out of the problem unless you have plenty of spare cash.

You might want to try Country Song Demos if that is your style. It is run by a man named Joe Sins and I was very pleased with the job he did on my piece "Take the Pictures Down", which can be found on the MP3 thread. Encourage you to give it a lesson. Before that I had 17 demos done with Paramount, but they went out of business so had to find a new provider. Keeping my options open but was very pleased with the job done on this one.

Are you sure Paramount went out of business or just changed their name? Theyve done that quite a bit over the years. Quite the interesting company. Lots of stories with that one. There are a lot of studios here and many many private people with home studios. Not hard to find someone if you want. If you go to a site called "MUSIC STARTS HERE" there is usually some listings there for them. I'll put my own friend in, Jay Verne, of Jay's Place recordings. I've worked with Jay for over 20 years and have done hundreds if not thousands of songs of all levels. Jay is a great guy and is very good on out of town songs. www.jaysplace.com or jaysplacerecording@comcast.net. Mostly music is like the old REO speedwagon song, "Heard it from a friend who, heard it from a friend who..." It's mostly word of mouth. Everyone uses studios at one time or another, although there are more and more band in a box or hommade studios out there in all nooks and crannies of the world. All depends on what you are looking for and your budget. Good luck. MAB

Sorry Everette. I'll check and make sure I have the right links, although they did work for me. But we just had a pretty huge tornado here and one of the churches Jay plays at (he is the only white keyboard player and music director in two black churches here in town) was hit pretty hard. So he is involved in a lot of other things right now. Check out other people's suggestions, and if you are still interested, contact me privately and I'll get you two together. Will be a little while though.
