"Imagine somebody working so cheaply" - Fdemetrio

There's a "tip" link comes up when the project is finished. One should always tip a musician.

yeah but if paying 10 dollars for a track, what kind of a tip wouldnt be an insult?

The tip page gives choices of amount. And I have always given a tip and even $5 has always been appreciated. I suppose it depends on the complexity of the job.

It just shows appreciation..

I think the hope from the musicians part, is that the access gives them work in the future. Like I just posted his link to his website. its not that fiver is paying their rent, I think its more of an exposure thing to try and open doors to bigger projects.

Gives it it that warmth you really can only get by a human being. A human is also capable of way more creativity.

Love it! Sounds like hes right there in the room. Like the strings, that actually sounds like Tenor Sax this time.

Im jealous, gonna start doing this probably get started this week.

Time to hit the woodshed!

Thanks, Fdemetrio! I don’t want you getting the wrong idea about the cost of projects with Fiveer. There are 3 different levels. I’m using the premium level. Which is still very reasonable. A lot of the cost depends on the musician, length & complexity of the music, and the amount of tip you leave for the player when the projects finished.. All & all, the cost has been super reasonable for me. And a delight for me to work with such great session player.

Best, John smile

Great job he did there John. and fast

------------------------------

Just had a look at my history with fiverr. WOW

first order:
may 28th 2011

Number of gigs purchased:
395

Total cost:
$5800

Just under $15 per gig.

Fiverr was the first and way back then, every gig was $5, regardless plus a tip.

The work has always been top notch for me, and was only 1 that I rejected. I wanted a CV done and sent the relevant information. I got back a CV in pigeon English with just the information that I sent, almost word for word...lol

God Bless

Roy

To me, it seems fiver is a legal liability.

You cant rely blindly on the services. In some countries, you cant do work-for-hire if you are a PRO member, so you have to know where they are located, how the laws are, and what their PRO allows. Musicians are notorious for not being business savvy, so they most likely won’t know themselves. Fiver probably waiver all responsibility in their terms, so you are on your own.

Further more lawsuits has become a “market” because cases are just decided in the courts by average listeners who are not educated in musicology or musicians, so the risk of getting tracks in return that can be cosidered ripoff’s are huge, especially when having generic work done like on fiver.

So, I would never consider using fiver for music that is going to be comercially published or released. I dont have the nerve.

Nice John, it adds warmth to the piano, I even thought I heard strings in the background, just my imagination I guess.

Yes, there’s always risks with collabs & musicians-for-hire. One should always converse with the person before started a relationship. I always ask the musician if they're fine with signing a release form. If they’re not, I pass. Though there's always a minimal risk, I'm certainly not going to build my music career, by being afraid of risk taking. Life is about risks & adventure. Besides, unless there’s a lot of money involved, nobody cares.

There are complete recording studios who can produce somebody's song, even if all they do is write lyrics. They conceive the whole thing, write the music and melody, and record and produce it, and still the song belongs to the lyric writer. It's strange, but the work for hire is really just the producer saying "hey, you have zero chance of making money, so im going to make some"

Im a singer-songwriter, every singer-songwriter uses studio musicians. There would be an awful lot of law suits if the studio musician was able to sue for the parts they put down. Most lawsuits involve theft of the song or parts of it. I do agree that if they come up with something that is big, like say you wrote a song on guitar, and somebody comes up with a signature bass line that makes the song stand out, then they might have an argument.

If you think about it, Band In A Box is the same exact premise. You pay the license when you buy it, at fiver you get the contract when hiring a musician. Talk about generic stuff? That's all generic, and its all based on borrowed music that has already been published. Although nobody to my knowledge has ever had a hit song released that used Band In A Box, so we dont know what would come of it.

For me, it's the real musician playing that makes it. You could have the most sophisticated software playing something very complex, and it sound nice, but then have a real person playing something real basic, but with feel, I'll take the latter.

A real person will always sound more like he belongs in your song than a sample will anyway.

Just to be safe id probably have the song copyrighted before I send it, Id probably have my own version of the musical parts recorded as a guide, keep all correspondence, and the agreement, if I was going to use people for my album.

Bottom line? Music doesnt make money anyway, not real money. If I land in a movie, and get paid 100 dollars to have the song used. Let somebody sue me for 50!

So true John. I wish that I had a song that was so successful that someone sued me...lol

I would just pay them regardless and enjoy the balance...lol

Thanks Roy. Some of my piano lounge tracks have been doing well. This is just an extension of that genre. Also, I'm waiting for the comeback of Film Noir. laugh

Best, John smile.

Really nice, that's Tenor again. Whats nice for you is you are playing to yourself, you have subtle tempo changes in there that would VERY difficult to pull off playing to a click, but relatively easy when the band is in sight.

Im very excited to have started doing this. I have all these ideas in my head, and I keep thinking the other people will know whats in my head... lol. Ive gone through about 50 songs and trying to find 10 that I like enough to attempt this.

at the moment im working on sketch tracks, basic ideas for a bass and piano player or keys, sax maybe.

But this is taking up all my time, last night I looked up and it 2 am. eventually....

Thanks Fde! Yes, I very seldom use a click track. A click track is so confining. Good luck with your ventures into this new human application. And yes, it's very easy losing track of time when pursuing our art.

Hey John,
Another wonderful piece here, love the Sax on this, what a great idea to bring it in. This song, puts you right in the mood, right away. I find I didn't have to 'slide' there, I was there instantly. Great work.Cheers!-Dana

Hi Gang:

This has been an informative and enjoyable thread. Very nice work, John... especially for your first "session" with Josh. I hope this is just the beginning of another avenue for success in your musical endeavors, John. I tend to agree with FD and would have experimented a bit more with the exact type of Sax used on this piece... but sometimes, those options are not available. Still got the musical idea across.

Roy, thanks for your input. Hope you are doing well.

Regards to all, ----Dave

P. S.: John... I sent you a PM yesterday evening.

Actually Dave, it appears the guy could offer any of the sax's. The first one seemed to be alto, the second two were tenor, to my ear.

I always liked the sound of tenor it's richer and fuller sound. I always considered Alto sax more of a jazz instrument, tenor all styles of music.

I know very little about soprano or bass sax. Dont know if they are ever used in popular music, maybe ensembles and big band.

When I think of Tenor Sax I think of Clarence Clemons, when I think of Alto, I think of David Sanborn.

I think this guy did a good job, he wasnt asked to re arrange the song or compose anything, he's just adding some warmth.

Hi FD:

I could not agree with you more! My arranger Keyboard has a pretty darn good selection of saxes in varying forms including multiple units being available for backing or even mixed-in with other reed instruments or brass.

For the money, John (via your generosity in sharing) has done well, plowed new ground and as always, offers new and interesting avenues for us to explore. I peeked at Fiverr via the link and tried to dig a little deeper but it wanted me to join Facebook or something similar... and at this late stage of my life, I just don't have time... so I'll make a mental note and return there when time permits.

Roy is right! When we share ideas and pathways for our music, JPF is so much more enjoyable. I am still concerned about Brian and the future of this website... like so many others. At least a little cash is beginning to flow in. Where would we be without the generosity of others or our own ability to be generous.

Regards, ----Dave

Sounds good John, Im glad its working, not very often do you inquire about something, and then have somebody do it that fast and with results to share. A guinea pig that it worked for! Is he playing what your writing, or just playing by ear? Sounds like he's countering your melodies on sax in different spots. Also sounds like in parts where you are slowing down he's leaving empty so he doesnt have to chase your tempo. it works!

Im working on my stuff, haven't even gotten close to submitting it to somebody there yet. Also gotta figure out how I want to pay them to do it, I never had paypal account.

I have used crypto currency often.
