Haven't written anything new in a while so wanted to try and get this old brain moving..work in progress. Tks glyn
Can't Fight The Night
When the darkness starts to fall Every part of my body starts to show Hardest part of the day but I know Can't fight the night
My heart starts to spin Inside out ..outside in There's no way i'm gonna win Can't fight the night
Your memories flood my mind I know I don't want you back again My mind feels you touchin' loving me Blows my mind such a sin
How do I stop the pain When the night takes over my brain Can't someone help me here Tears escape like a drowning rain
My heart starts to spin Inside out outside in There's no way I'm gonna win Can't fight the night
Everywhere I turn You are there looking back Like so many times before Hate when the skies turn so black
I remember the day you left Never to return to my life Loving you hating you Screaming get outta my site
Again.. My heart starts to spin Inside out outside in There's no way I'm gonna win Can't fight the night
Can't fight the night..... Owwww
You walk slowly through my dreams Why keep coming when I want to sleep Every night's the same ole' thing Can't fight the night Can't fight the night
Can't fight the night

Good to see you're up and running again, Glyn. The hardest part is starting but you've done that now.
My suggestion would be to introduce a little more positive information in the form of what it was that made her happy back in the day.
Onward and upward.

Wonder if this is your own experience, either from loss of a spouse or lover or perhaps even a parent or some other loved one maybe you were taking care of. Just curious.

Yes most my songs are from experience...the ones about love and abuse are from late husband that passed in 1995....was a hard lesson.

Hi Glynda, There are many emotions you tap into in this. It just needs some clarification as to who you are talking to, why, and why you would think about wanting them back. Good luck with it,

I Can't Fight The Night copyright Glynda
You walk slowly through my dreams when I only want to sleep Every night's the same ole' thing Just when I'm dreamin' deep I Can't Fight The Night (Employing the title, THE Hook, to end each Verse, makes it a Refrain-Type Chorus, as opposed to a Stanza-Type, comprised of multiple Lines, like a Verse.)
When the darkness starts to fall my body starts to show It's time to lay it all down It's hard to do you know I Can't Fight The Night
(Bridge) My heart starts to spin Inside out ..outside in There's no way I'm gonna win I Can't Fight The Night
Your memories flood my mind I don't want you back again My mind feels you touchin' me It feels like such a sin I Can't Fight The Night
Everywhere I turn the skies have turned so black Like so many times before You are there looking back I Can't Fight The Night
(Bridge) My heart starts to spin Inside out ..outside in There's no way I'm gonna win I Can't Fight The Night
When the night takes my brain Tears escape like a drowning rain Can't someone help me here How do I stop the pain I Can't Fight The Night
I remember when you left Never to return to my life Loving you hating you Screaming, "Get out of my sight!" I Can't Fight The Night
My heart starts to spin Inside out ..outside in There's no way I'm gonna win I Can't Fight The Night
(Coda) You walk slowly through my dreams when I only want to sleep I Can't Fight The Night I Can't Fight The Night I Can't Fight The Night

A Song needs the element of 'Repetition' to supply 'Structure' the listener can relate to. A Song needs the element of 'Change' to keep it from being monotonous, enabling listeners to become 'un-Hooked'. A Bridge supplies that element of Change. After two Verses my mind enjoys that new Melody, perhaps a new cadence to the vocal delivery of the Lyric. When the Melody and cadence of the two Verses I've already heard returns in a third Verse, my ear welcomes it back. I 'learned' it when I heard it before, got Hooked, stayed Hooked, the Bridge renews my interest, and I'm ready for more of the element of Repetition. How long a Song can go on without letting a listener come un-Hooked depends on the Song, in all its elements of Structure, Repetition, Change, vocal timbre, sense of the Singer-Character in the Song, the story they tell, the arrangement of musical accompaniment, and a universe of factors in the listener themselves. In this edit I simply tried for regularity of Rhythm & Rhyme, Repetition and Change, and simplifying the coherence of the concept embodied in the title. I think it could work.
