When you're born insanely rich, the logical thing to do is to pair it down and try living like normal people. Its funny how life works.

Millions of people would love to be in their position, but they are already there. They will never struggle in life however, they will end up getting endorsements, writing books and maybe even have movies made about them

Hey Springsteens son became a fireman in Jersey City. But people still redicule that. No matter what you do when you're famous people got something to say

Gavin, if Megan wanted to live in Haiti, hapless Harry would be picking out voodoo dolls for the china cabinet.

FD, I put before thee a challenge. I'm going to make a statement and I want you to find a way to reference Springsteen in some way. I'm giving you a wide latitude...any member of the E Street Band is also fair game, from the guy who irons Little Steven's scarfs to Patti's gyno.

Here we go...

...Netflix is rebooting Three's Company and Adam.Schiff has been cast as Mr. Furley.

Well Chrissy was a blonde, and he wrote the song Sandy about the beach giving it a persona of a girl named Sandy, and they were both in the 70's, 3's company later. SO, its obvious Three's Company borrowed from that song to create Chrissy.

Hey, I thought there was a connection, fame, fortune, inheritance, if not, life will continue. But its fun, nobody here seems to Like Springsteen, thats where it all started, so Ill bring it up, if nothing more to amuse myself. As you are with this thread.

But carry on

As the "Bard" said:

"Much ado about nothing." These two require air to breathe... water to drink... food each day and a roof over their heads... not to mention clothing appropriate for the environment being encountered. She knew what she was getting in to before they married. As "Coucn" mentioned... it appears the love scale is tilted in Harry's direction and he would probably follow her into the Arctic if she peevishly demanded. Sad!

Hey, I like Bruce. I mentioned I'm on Fire in the Six topic. I named him as one of my top ten favorite songwriters in that thread awhile back. He was a huge influence on me around the time of Nebraska. It irked me for years that the original cd of that album didn't sound like the lp, particularly the wonderful mandolin part in Atlantic City. The remaster rectified that.

But hey, there's people who admire Bruce's old albums and there's a guy like you. Tell me you don't sing into a Bud Light bottle mic while wearing Bruce's headband, denim jacket, leather vest Village People outfit from the Born in the Usa video...

Nope I never liked the BITUSA image, never done that. I was more a first three and then River/Darkness guy. Now, I did air guitar to the Whos You Better You bet right before I started playing, about 1000 times, often in my underwear.

Ps...there's a great Springsteen bootleg called How Nebraska was Born. Well worth seeking out for any roots/Americana/country writer. It has a treasure trove of his worktapes from the Nebraska/BitUSA era (they were basically the same project). It's been speculated he left his personal cassettes at the studio when he stepped out and an employee made copies and bootlegged them. You can hear him turning the pages in his notebook during the recordings.

Much of it will probably be released on the inevitable $150 fortieth anniversary box set. It might also be on YouTube.

The rich and famous have their problems too. Megan and Harry just got tired of camera happy mobs following their every move to photograph them hoping to get a picture that they could make a fortune off of by selling it to those rag magazines. Some lottery winners wish they had never won because people come out of the woodworks trying to sell them something or begging for money to help them in something or other. Some even had their children kidnapped for ransom. Some lottery winners tried to keep it quiet about their winnings but those lotteries want to keep selling more and more tickets, so you are forced to acknowledge your good fortune to the world. Many rich people are forced to live in walled off areas with gates and guards to keep out the rife raphe. I would not want to live that way. Better to be average and free than rich and in prisoned by hanger-on's. Even when vacationing in Canada they had cameramen popping out of the woods taking their picture.

I have nothing but apathy for poor, beleagured Meg and Har. I'd never heard of her before she got involved with her easily emasculated beau.

My point was a wink at an earlier discussion about Trump ( and now, all his supporters) being "racist" for insulting certain nations. I must re-emphasize, I support no politician, but it is funny how these critics never move to the nations they infer are wonderful. In the coming months, celebs will threaten to move to Canada, France etc. if "racist" Trump is reelected. They never threaten to move to Mexico, Haiti or Somalia.

An observation...

Everyone got your point, Couch. I have no particular interest in the royal family either. Having said that, I don't see why anyone would derive pleasure from taking cheap shots at any of them any more than at anyone else.

Humm,
There goes that Humm again. The Brits wouldn't know what to do if the Royalty ceased to exist. What would all the little people have to talk about. Naw, I don't want to be Royalty. I like being a "Little people".

To be fair, Ray, Americans seem to be just as fascinated by them LOL. I'm not, although they do serve a useful constitutional function by separating prestige from power.

I probably have heard every song he has ever done in some shape or form. When he was younger he used to himself work on the FBI raids of the factories that were bootlegging his live shows and songs. I remember seeing an episode of Geraldo lol where they showed how he'd be sitting in the FBI vans and when prompted he would enter the building. He said those companies had more money than he ever had, and could make better album covers than his label. He came from nothing remember.

His outtakes are sometimes better than the stuff he released. He can write country and Americana for sure, whether his fan base wants to hear it is another thing,

Limousine Liberals. I dont think calling Haiti a chit hole was racist per se, but wrong at the same time.

Hi FD:

Conservative Democrats are "on the horns of a dilemma" these days from my limited perspective... but it appears you have no candidate in the race to communism going on now. Perhaps Bloomburg is that person who will rescue the Lemmings? It is so sad to see Dems eager to grasp any negative narrative in their race to oblivion.

Trump is easily dislikeable but the man appears to possess a work ethic like no President we have ever seen... and we are better off today than we were before he was elected... again from my limited perspective.

Regarding Bruce! Never met the man. Don't care much for his style (what little I've seen) but I grew up in a different era. He, and most high profile entertainers are liberal to the core. I believe it is smarter for all stars and entertainers to avoid politics altogether.

Heck, I can remember when choosing between a Democrat or a Republican was a coin toss after weighing their agendas. Those days appear to be gone forever.

Finally, the Pope needs to change the model for the Priesthood and allow them to marry. We are, after all, still animals... with higher intellect I am told... but those inner urges are natural in most species.

Sorry, "Couch"... don't mean to "hi-jack" your thread... so back to Harry and Meg! Poor things. Money cannot solve all problems and I'm glad I don't have Paparazzi chasing after my every move.

Have a great week folks. The entertainment goes on.

he's hard working because HE wants to shine. I dont think for one minute he puts America first, not by a long shot. He's very smart he has a way of feeling out the imagination of the public and identifying with it. He would make a great singer songwriter if he could write. Hes defintely talented in his own way.

Does he REALLY care about America Or Donald Trump representing America. Alot of people are happy with him. He has done some things and said some things that needed tpo be said. The Illegal gangs coming here and murdering innocent people, what rational person would disagree with that, but some do.

The problem is that the Christian ideals of the American founders and forefathers that defined freedom in the American Constitution have been rejected and forgotten in favor of a more tangible and self serving ideology. The American forefathers could not predict how the entrepreneurial habit of placing a price upon all that God had provided freely would ultimately and proudly enslave the entire planet in the name of capitalism and profit. Trump is and always has been a very savvy American businessman… but he’s not a “Globalist Socialist”. Trump does not want to sacrifice American sovereignty for the sake of global economics and consolidation of powers. Trump is a proud individualist who understands the balance of powers within a highly competitive marketplace.

Sometimes I think people just take words they don't like and put them together as if they were the same thing to make their dislike more efficient. Globalists....I hate 'em. Socialists...yuk! "Globalist-Socialist"....double yuk.

I don't like avocados. I'm not a fan of hip hop music. Rather than wasting time hating them individually, I hate hip-hop avocados. This leaves me more time to write posts like this one.

I don't want to be someone the Founders would have feared(gasp!!), but here's what I know...Adam Schiff can and will spend the next five years on tv impeaching Trump, yet in January 2025, Jeopardy contestants still won't know who he is.

Unusually, I find myself agreeing with you, Couch. smile The most infuriating thing is that when you switch on NPR in the car to hear the news, all you get is live coverage of the procedures. This promises to be three days of the Democrats finding new ways to state the obvious and three days of the Republicans finding new ways to avoid talking about it. Or more likely the same old ways.

I can't believe they pre-empted Jeopardy for this nonsense.

Here's all that needs to happen...it requires two minutes of air time.

Some guy steps up to a mic, quotes the transcript of Trump's phone call VERBATIM, without embellishment or editing, then quotes the statute the phone call violated, VERBATIM.

This has never happened and never will happen because, like "collusion", there's no predicating crime. This is why Schiff distorted what the transcript actually said, it's innocuous. The "whistleblowers" witnessed nothing firsthand, none of the "witnesses" witnessed anything. You couldn't write an episode of NCIS with a predicating crime this weak.

It's a hoax, the latest in a long line. Unfortunately, it won't be the last. Trump is a cinch to win which will only drive the sorest losers in history even more insane.

They pre-empted Jeopardy.

Well,
If Big Jim was still here he would have something to say about Harry and Megan. Those "Brain Dead Libs" say they want Trump to have a fair "Trial" Well I guess they missed the memo. Trump did get a fair trial, by the people, he got elected Pres.
You can't get fairer than that! Nice economy, nice jobs report. Geronimo!

I actually heard a lot of what Schiff said yesterday. Even without all the evidence that has been withheld, he made a completely air-tight case. Not that that makes any difference to the outcome. No wonder his eyes are popping.

One of the more formidable royals LOL. My mother knew her from children's charity work they were both involved in. To be fair, she was (and maybe still is) one of the more hard-working members of the family. If she put her name to a cause, she backed it up with work.

An airtight case? He quoted an opinion piece in the WaPo. An opinion piece! He scare mongered about Russia. Russia! Hahaha!!

There's no predicating crime. He took hours to speechify when all he had to do was quote the transcript verbatim and then quote the statute that had been violated. Here, watch me do it...

"Mr. Clinton, were you ever in a room alone with Ms. Lewinsky
at the White House?"

"I can't recall."

That's perjury.

One guy got halfway there yesterday. He quoted Trump asking that Ukraine honcho for a favor. (GASP!!) Unfortunately, he couldn't close the deal by stating specifically what law that violated. I think that guy was the same mental pygmy who called Trump a "Grand Dragon".
Hahaha!!

Yes, I wouldn't include the opinion piece as one of the more compelling arguments. Not really necessary and the Kool Aid addicts will just jump on that as if it somehow negated everything else. It's what they do.

I get that you hate him, but Schiff did a great job of making the case. It may even have convinced some Republican Senators, but it won't make any difference to the way they vote.

The transcript is in itself incriminating. Repeatedly tweeting at folks to read it doesn't change what's in it.

I'd never heard of Schiff until he spent two years on my tv talking "collusion" and Trump being a "threat to our democracy". That was an obvious hoax, which came to nothing. Sandwiched in there was the Kavanaugh hoax ( He's
a gang rapist! Thousands will die!! I need two front doors!!!)
, which also came to nothing. Now, we have this, which we're expected to take seriously. I read the transcript (which Schiff
Grossly distorted), it's benign, which is why Schiff spent very little time on it yesterday, if any. Russia!! Zzzzz...

I don't hate Schiff. But he's one of two things...a really bad liar, or delusional.

The WaPo piece he quoted was based on anonymous sources i.e. leaks. It's obvious he leaked to the Post, then quoted the story based on his own leaks. This was done over three years ago with the FISA warrants. You leak a fabricated story
to the press, then use the article as the justification for a warrant.

Trump immediately released the transcript, which he wouldn't have done if it was incriminating.

Anonymous whistleblowers with no firsthand information? An impeachment manager who distorts the transcript and quotes editorials as support for his case?

This is a joke. There is no crime, just sore losers.

We’re not talking about intelligent people (at least not rational ones). We’re talking about two rival gangs out to destroy the other. Pathetic! Makes me puke listening to any of them. Send them all over to Afghanistan.

Yeah...

...you've got plenty of posts on this topic and familiarity with the Democrats' case, yet you've provided no evidence of a crime. You should be a pundit for CNN.

Nixon's impending impeachment caused him to resign. The crime? A bunch of guys broke into the Democratic office at the Watergate Hotel.

Burglary is a crime.

In clear, succinct terms, quote the transcript verbatim, then quote verbatim the law it broke. You can't do it. Schiff can't do it.

There's no predicating crime.

A few stupid questions….
1- How does claiming the authority to impeach a president without evidence of a crime serve to shore up democracy?
2- How exactly do the Democrats ever expect to recover from the last three years of unfounded juvenile mudslinging and blatant socialist Constitutional undermining?
3- Just how brilliant does a guy like Trump have to be to accomplish so much in so short a time despite what the libtards have thrown at him?
4- If it’s not the president’s job to make phone calls and negotiate with foreign powers then, who’s job is it?
5- If the last three years truly reflects the honor and sincere Constitutional commitment of the Democrat party, who would be ignorant enough to ever vote Democrat again?
6- If this continues after Trump is re-elected, who do you believe will be the first to be charged with treason?

Wow, Gavin,
You listened to everything Schiff had to say? You must have nerves of steel. I tried to listen to some of it but listening to Schiff is about as exciting as watching paint dry. The man would mess up a soup sandwich! The Libs are trying to either get Trump out of office early or keep him from getting re-elected. Most likely neither is going to happen. The Libs are so bitter that Trump got elected they make no pretense over what they will say. Well we have had doomsday predictions before. I would like to ask all those Libs if they have a problem with Trump or any other elected official if they being a fiscally responsible as possible with the Tax payers money. The National debt is now over 23 Trillion and growing. About 40 percent of the people don't have the money to pay for a $500.00 emergency. Practically the whole world is living off Uncle Sam.
That's why a lot of those countries hate Trump. Because he is taking away their Rubber Ducky. We can't pay the rest of the worlds bills forever. I tihnk most of the people already know that. The rest better wise up.

If a mayor or a governor withheld public funds (maybe a combination of local and federal funding) for a project until the firm doing the project did them a "favor" that personally benefitted their re-election campaign, that would be considered extortion or attempted bribery. If they took steps to hide or withhold information from law enforcement, that would be considered obstruction of justice. If there were multiple actors helping the mayor/governor withhold duly mandated public funds and hide/withhold information that would be considered conspiracy to defraud the government. Take your pick.

Now conviction for an impeachment is a political endeavor -- not a legal/criminal one. If the senate votes that the actions of the president do not rise to the standard of "high crimes and misdomeaners", then the case is over. That's is our system.

I have Alexander Hamilton's name thrown around a lot. Here is what he said:

A well-constituted court for the trial of impeachments is an object not more to be desired than difficult to be obtained in a government wholly elective. The subjects of its jurisdiction are those offenses which proceed from the misconduct of public men, or, in other words, from the abuse or violation of some public trust. They are of a nature which may with peculiar propriety be denominated political, as they relate chiefly to injuries done immediately to the society itself. The prosecution of them, for this reason, will seldom fail to agitate the passions of the whole community, and to divide it into parties more or less friendly or inimical to the accused. In many cases it will connect itself with the pre-existing factions, and will enlist all their animosities, partialities, influence, and interest on one side or on the other; and in such cases there will always be the greatest danger that the decision will be regulated more by the comparative strength of parties, than by the real demonstrations of innocence or guilt.

The precautions for their responsibility are comprised in the article respecting impeachments. They are liable to be impeached for malconduct by the House of Representatives, and tried by the Senate; and, if convicted, may be dismissed from office, and disqualified for holding any other. This is the only provision on the point which is consistent with the necessary independence of the judicial character, and is the only one which we find in our own Constitution in respect to our own judges.

… But in no sense was a criminal offense required. The phrase "high crimes and misdemeanor" is not derived from the criminal law. It is parliamentary in origin. Thus, Commons impeached government officials
for procuring offices for persons unfit and unworthy for them, neglecting to safeguard the seas as a Great Admiral was required, putting a seal on an ignominious treaty, misleading the sovereign. … .

I love it, most people avoid politics and religion like the plague, thankfully I'm not one of those. I sure wish the Democrats would finally finish their fantasy of impeaching Trump/putting him in jail/winning the next election. Americans are sick of it, and sick of them throwing taxpayers money away to fund it. Has anyone looked at the cost, in money and time? I really wish they would start throwing the people in jail who fraudulently started the whole investigation into, of all things, collusion; not a crime to start with, and especially those involved in the FISA warrants. They are the ones who belong behind bars. The part I dislike the most is the fact that is is pitting Americans against each other and weakening our country as a whole.

That's a false analogy, Kevin.

A. The Ukraine didn't know Trump was considering withholding funds. The transcript says no such thing. You can't quote the transcript. You're giving a biased interpretation of it, same as Schiff. Finally, the Ukraine received the funds. A total waste of US taxpayer money.

B. You're leaving out an important detail. The "favor" was Ukraine investigating an obvious criminal. Joe Biden is on tape bragging about getting a Ukrainian prosececutor fired. As POTUS, it's well within Trump's rights to ask for an investigation. Biden and his hopelessly corrupt son belong to a different political party? Doesn't matter.

You doubt his motives? So what? There's no predicating crime. Blathering on about Hamilton is therefore irrelevant.

Quote the transcript verbatim, then the statute Trump violated verbatim. You can't. All you can do is slant what was
said. It's a hoax.

a) Ukraine found out about the aid being withheld before the WH learned of the whistleblower report

b) ha, ha -- an "obvious criminal", Biden was following US policy and it was the consensus of all of our allies that the prosecutor in question was corrupt. … and there was no current investigation into burisma at that time.

"Quote the transcript verbatim" : "I want you to do us a favor though" -- look into a discredited conspiracy theory and investigate my political opponent (or am I misreading the call's transcript?).

One word on Hunter Biden. Before his career was derailed by drug abuse, he was qualified in corporate governance. He was a lawyer, was executive vice president at MBNA. From 1998 to 2001, he served in the United States Department of Commerce, focusing on ecommerce policy. He was appointed by President George W. Bush to a five year term on the board of directors of Amtrak. He was a board member from July 2006 until he resigned in February 2009, and the board's vice chairman from July 2006 to January 2009, leaving both roles shortly after his father became vice president. Should he have taken board of director's position at Burisma -- absolutely not. Was he qualified to be on the board concerning corporate governance -- yes he was. He also joined the burisma board AFTER the corruption charges were levied. The building of the board was done in response to the issues raised.
