I watched them dismantle the Chiefs earlier in the year and chalked it up as a bad day for Kansas City. Now it seems there is a better than average chance that we may see Ryan Tannehill hoisting the Lombardy trophy. And we were all concerned about what a super collider might do to the fabric of our universe!

Hi Ronnie:
Anything can happen in Pro Football. I thought the Chiefs were dogmeat in the first half and turned it off. Missed a miracle comeback. Drat! Looks like the playoffs and the stupid bowl are going to be good this year except for the crappy half-time show.
See ya and good luck to your team(s) and mine. (As long as they stay on their feet during the Anthem!)

It really is amazing what they're doing. Old school football RUN RUN RUN and defense, great coaching. Takiong advantage of every break they get. Catching passes and making interceptions that are unworldy, those are things you have to do if you are gonna beat teams like that. They are really well coached and prepared, oddly enough they needed alot of things to happen just to make it in. 9-7 record is pretty pedestrian.
The Giants won the superbowl once before with a 9-7 record and having to back into the playoffs, so theres a little history on their side.
No stars, Derick Henry is a budding star, but really Ryan Tannehill as qb? The guy who couldn't start for Miami? All of a sudden he's playing Like Joe Montana.
If Kc stacks the deck and sells out to stop Henry then Tannehill will have to beat Mahomes, wont happen that way
I love the underdogs, but I think they are toast this week. Cinderella always has to go home. The Chiefs caught a break, now they get to play at home.
Their best chance is for a rainy cold Day in KC where Mahomes wont throw for 5 tds and 400 yards, and the running games will decide it.
I was bummed when The Saints got knocked out. I had bet them beginning of the year to make it to the bowl. But they did me a solid and stayed alive through Drew Brees injury which I was concerned about him getting hurt...at 40. But they went 8-1 while he was out.
Im not crazy about picking that far in advance, this was in August I did this. I still do picks every week.
Im rooting for Tennessee in spirit but I think they will hit a buzz saw this week

To take a phrase of the immortal Ray Strode, "Hmmmmm!!!" We sure are enjoying it here! The town is Titan crazy and pretty proud of the Predators too, although they are not quite on top of things right now. But the Titans are really the stand outs this year. It's hard to believe they are actually in the AFC championship as over the past few years they were a team destined to let you down. Takes us back to 2000 when we lost by a foot to the Rams. But we will enjoy every minute they give us and to see an Alabama man, Derrick Henry, do in the pros what he did in High School and college is a pretty cool thing. No matter what happens, gotta be proud of this team.
TITAN UP!!!! Get em boys!

TITAN UP!!!! Get em boys! Well my last vivid memory of The Titans, which still haunts me was losing a bet because of the Fackin Music City Miracle....I kicked everything within 50 feet of me. Still cant believe how it happened....but Gof that was 20 years ago? Seems like yesterday https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Xa67skNKocIts a great story what they are doing, they won two REALLY impossible games on the road in hostile environments to get where they are. Wish them luck, but I think Cinderella goes home this week.

That was a funny one. I had three kids, my Daughter, son and girlfriend at the time's Daughter, and was trying to watch the Giants game while dealing with them, seemingly every thirty seconds. I had another friend over who was not Titans or Giants fan, Saints Fan, and he was saying "Turn off the lights the parties over.." Like Dandy Don used to do on Monday night football. And it sure seemed like they were done. Then the "Music City Miracle happened and everyone shut up for a couple of minutes, wondering if there was going to be penalty flags. Nope! GREAT WIN! And GREAT Memory.
Over the years I lost a lot of contact with football as I usually was playing, traveling, or teaching on Saturdays and Sundays, and moving to Tennessee, lost a lot of my passion for my home state of Alabama and our teams there. But it's come back over the last couple of years and after I got tired of being mad at the NFL and Colin Kapernick, it's just been enjoyable to watch it again without some constant political stuff attached.
You could be right about Cinderella this weekend, but you can't really count this team out. They've proven that over and over and of course, sometimes the big Marquee guy (Mariota) is not always the tickets. Could be the unlooked for (Tannahill) might be the ticket to ride. At least we can hope and it's a lot of fun this week. Thanks for that ride at any rate.

Ray, I know that you're "Hmmmm" was copywritten back when Charton Heston parted the Red Sea. It's why I always try to give you credit and mention you when I use the aforementioned "Hmmm." The Titans were actually the HOUSTON OILERS. They came here in 1998, went to the Superbowl their first actual year in Nashville, before that, the played at other stadiums, while their's was being built. Got one foot on the last play from winning the 2000 Superbowl (1999 season).
The Houston Texans, took over after they left. Was a different franchise. We beat them the last regular season game of the year. Then the Patriots, who were Superbowl champions last year and last week beat the best team in the league, Baltimore Ravens. This week is the dreaded Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship, which is the game we won with the "Music City Miracle" in 1999, that sent us to the Superbowl. Praying to get past these guys! They are pretty amazing.
It's pretty bizarre being this close the Superbowl, because we started this season losing terribly. And we had one of those "Franchise quarterbacks, Marcus Mariotta, A Heisman Trophy Winner, who was supposed to be our knight in shining armor. And just didn't pan up. Got his back up, Ryan Tannahill, and have won every game since.
I always look at these things very much like songwriting, songs and artists. Some times you have the most amazing song, increible artist, great production and team, money and political clout behind them, looks, talent, everything you think it would need. And it just DOESN'T PAN OUT. The fans don't buy it. They don't gain traction. Just doesn't happen, and they are gone.
And at the same time, these silly songs, artists, that basically suck in every way and they go on to become superstars and huge hit songs. None of it makes sense but that is the world.
Sometimes you can assemble the worlds greatest team, all the right players, the best coaches, the greatest fans, home field advantage, incredible track record, and on that one day, it just doesn't pan out and they are beaten by someone never saw coming. Can't figure it out.
All you can do is go "Hmmmmm." *

I can't remember when the Oilers became the Titans... but I'm pretty sure we left Greater Nashville before they arrived. They were coming to Tennessee and we were returning to borderline Texas. Glad to hear they are developing a fan base. Collegiate wise... poor Vanderbilt has been a disappointment over the years... but seemed to be much better this year. Hope they fare better next season... not to mention my hapless, lackluster Razorbacks. LOL!
Stay after them, Strode! Three cheers for Brunswick and Saint Simon's Island! ----Dave

Dave,
They came to Nashville in 1998, but didn't play there much. Vandy's stadium was too small and they played a few games in Memphis. Their stadium was finished in 1999, the Superbowl season. The conversation had started around 1996 that they were coming but Houston wouldn't build them a new stadium. Which I kind of don't like. These multi million dollar teams and billionaire owners should build them themselves, but we did. I voted on the referrendum to bring them here then almost as soon as we got them, we went and got a hocky team too. Sports are pretty expensive and we have had those nights with Vandy games, huge concerts, and trade shows all going at the same time. Gets pretty congested. Gotta take the good with the bad.

Marc:
Yeah, that happened after my time in Nashville. Glad they seem to have found a loving home. (Not that they were not loved by many Texans in the Houston area.) I agree 100% that sports teams are expensive entertainment organizations. Most are significantly overpaid. I am losing interest in pro sports rapidly and would prefer wrestling a very small alligator than attending an event at Jerry's AT&T (Cowboy) Stadium. We were in school together along with Jimmy Johnson. Not to imply they knew of my existence. LOL! All that "growth" in Arlington has been at a heavy tax burden on property and business owners. Now those poor souls have gone and financed another stadium for the Rangers Baseball Team.
Not much of this has anything to do with creating music... but, what else is new?
I'll be cheering for the Chiefs (the wrong team they ran out of Dallas) and the Packers because I played golf often with one of their scouts after I retired. Nice guy... great organization.
Good luck with your teams. ----Dave

I like a Cinderella story as much as the next but I think Andy Reid has suffered enough and would like to see him hoist the Lombardi. The Chiefs have best chance to do it that they ever will, talent wise on that roster.

He's a phenominal coach. Mahomes couldnt have asked for a better QB mentor, he certainly went to the right guy for development. An offensive genius and he always won wherever hes been, with minimal talent on his team. Now he has a superstar for a qb. But he hasnt won the big one thats the knock, he's got a shot.

The first thing I hope for is a good game. I've seen far too many games you get all pumped up for and then some team gets blown out in the first quarter. Hope this is not one of those.

The Superbowl itself usually is a terrible game. You have to sit through 8 hours of pre game shows and everybody giving their opinion, the coin toss, the national anthem. If you're the betting type...some people are, its an absolute field day, bet on anything from what color shirt will the coach wear, till how long the national anthem will take. All those odds should be available by Tuesday next week. Last year the Pats and Rams was so overhyped and it was one of the ugliest, worst played games Ive ever seen on a national stage, lol. Its like all that hype for that? Theres been a few great superbowls in recent memory. I think this year it will be a close game. if the titans survive they will get destroyed in the bowl. If The Chiefs make it it should be a great game between either GB or SF. Man If Im Ryan Tannehill, im thinking to myself, this may be my only shot to ever make a superbowl. ANd it likely could be, I mean legends have never made it there. ...thats whay they play the game... somebody once said.

The Chiefs - Titans game began to look like a "blow-out" and I was concerned that Andy Reid might be in for another heartache. Kudos to both teams... and QB Mahomes looked like he may be the next "Tom Brady."
I was surprised that Green Bay was so seemingly out-classed by SF... but that's football.
Maybe next year, Jerry Jones will leave the coaching to the coach he hired... but I doubt it. The Cowboys have turned into Crowbars. LOL!

Well, it was still a great few weeks here. Wore my Titans Jersey onstage at a show last night. Dedicated my first song to them. Heck of a team, just played a better team and although we beat them once before, everything changes in the playoffs. Should be a great Superbowl. Congratulations Kansas City and San Fransisco. Lots of fun in those games. Thanks a lot.

The Chiefs opened as a 1.5 point favorite. Its been a long time since a superbowl was projected to be so close.
Two weeks to get your story straight.....

Then it all collapsed and we finished 7-9 and need a QB for the first time since the early days in Indy.
