I think what makes satan so attractive to others is
that he tastes like chocolate...

Amazing drummer, Rush music was so complicated, and he was a master time keeper. So many odd Time Signatures.

And he was the bands lyricist which alot of people dont realize. They were a bunch of musical geeks which such amazing talent, but that had such great songs too. Poor guy had so much personal tragedy and health problems too.

Probably my favorite Rush song is Limelight

Love Distant Early Warning too

The G.O.A.T of Rock drummers in my opinion. Whats even sadder is also IMO, the 4 greatest rock drummers of all have all left the building. {Peart, Bonham, Moon, Baker}

May the man rest in peace.
And with acknowledgement to his technical skill, the popularity of Rush has always baffled me. If I wanted to mentally torture myself I would put on headphones and listen to Rush for 8 hours straight. The music sounds frenzied, discordant and disjointed to me and I would rather hear finger nails on a chalkboard than the singer's voice.

Sorry. No disrespect to the dead. Just dont get the appeal of the music.

It's not for everyone for sure. Just like jazz, mostly only other musicians really get it. It sounds frenzied and discordant because it's incredibly busy in arrangement, as well as the timing and chord structures go way behind campfire sing a longs.

Geddy Lee's voice is a little weird but perfect for their style.

Its a mixture of rock, pop, classical and jazz. If they can be compared to anything I would compare them to Yes. But they managed to have radio hits behind all this musicality which is very rare.

Ive never seen them in concert, not the biggest fan of all. But wow, incredible composers and musicians.

They managed to capture the attention of musical geeks but also regular music listeners.

Strange music for sure, but amazing at the same time.

All true. In the final wrap, it still grates on me and I can find nothing to tell myself that will make me enjoy it somehow.
I used to know a bass player that was personal friends with Rush's bass player. He used to go visit him on tour occasionally..
Real nice guy. He definitely fit your definition of "geek." Was all into "cerebral" music.
