I know y'all have been waiting for this. <g> URL is www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songinfo.cfm?bandID=183557&songID=6627293I wanted to include a picture with the song, so I googled "chicken saddles" just for the heck of it, and got 383,000 entries. Apparently there are a lot of strange people out there. There are chicken saddles being auctioned off on eBay in England, and there's a big Russion market that's buying up U.S.-made chicken saddles like crazy. Lyrics follow. Thanks, guys and gals. Joe [4/4, brighrtly and with straight face] TWENTY SADDLES FOR MY CHICKEN --J. Wrabek [THE RAP: This was in response to one of those contests where they assign you a title and you’re supposed to write a song to it. Title was “Twenty Chickens for a Saddle.” And I tried, really I did, but it kept coming out “Twenty Saddles for My Chicken.” I finally decided to just write it—I wasn’t going to win the contest, but maybe Gene Burnett could use it for his album of chicken songs he says he’s not going to do. Just a bouncy, sureal little romp—probably very chicken-fetishy. If there is any redeeming social message, please let me know. I am unaware of any.] CHORUS: I’ve got twenty saddles for my chicken, And ev’ry one is different, and ev’ry one looks fine; I’ve got twenty saddles for my chicken So we can look real special when we go for a ride. 1. She spends a couple hours at the mirror, Pickin’ out what she’s gonna wear today; She can choose from ev’ry color of the rainbow, And the ones that left her looking fat—well, we gave those away. CHORUS: I’ve got twenty saddles for my chicken, And ev’ry one is different, and ev’ry one looks fine; I’ve got twenty saddles for my chicken So we can look real special when we go for a ride. 2. There’s rhinestones for the times when she feels shiny, Red-white-and-blue for Independence Day; She really likes those patriotic colors— Don’t you wish that ev’ry chicken felt that way? CHORUS: I’ve got twenty saddles for my chicken, And ev’ry one is different, and ev’ry one looks fine; I’ve got twenty saddles for my chicken So we can look real special when we go for a ride. 3. She thinks that day-glo pink makes her look sexy, So we usually wear that one at night; It’s funny how the traffic all avoids us When they see that saddlle spell her name in flashing neon lights. CHORUS: I’ve got twenty saddles for my chicken, And ev’ry one is different, and ev’ry one looks fine; I’ve got twenty saddles for my chicken So we can look real special when we go for a ride. [GRATUITOUS INSTRUMENTAL BREAK—do NOT use the chord progression from “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”] CHORUS: I’ve got twenty saddles for my chicken, And ev’ry one is different, and ev’ry one looks fine; I’ve got twenty saddles for my chicken So we can look real special when we go for a ride. 4. She smiles and waves in ev’ry kind of weather; Takes more than rain to make that chicken blue; We sure do make quite a pair together— Don’t it make you wish you had a chicken, too? CHORUS: I’ve got twenty saddles for my chicken, And ev’ry one is different, and ev’ry one looks fine; I’ve got twenty saddles for my chicken So we can look real special when we go for a ride. Hiya Joe,
How could I resist this one? Your humor is as dry as the Sahara after a drought, my friend; and like JM mentioned, the commentary itself (before during and after) makes the trip worthwhile.
Social redeeming quality? I'll just go for a salad tonight...
Thanks again for sharing, Joe. I don't know what the musical animal kingdom would do without you....
Cheers, Beth

Thanks, Beth. Most of the animal kingdom has not given me any feedback. At home, the cats hate it (I'm not sure if they hate music in general, just hate country music, or just hate mine); Baby Amy, our Doberman, used to try to harmonize when she was alive, but she really needed voice lessons. Don't know what the chickens would think.
I tried this out on the crowd at the Wild Goose tavern a couple of weeks ago, and told them it was the sort of song you'd want to sing along to if you'd had too much to drink. So they sang along...

Hi Mark:
I clicked on the link, heard that familiar voice... then noticed it was "Playing in the Ruins" instead of "Twenty Saddles for My Chicken." Perhaps the link has been compromised? Thanks for giving us a spin on one of Joe's great songs, anyway.
Regards, ----Dave
