The Son of a Green Beret(lyrics)
This was written with the idea of being a follow up to the Barry Saddler song Green Beret. As you may remember, in that song, the Green Beret had left his wife a letter asking her to make his son a Green Beret. Well, here is my take to the son growing up.
(v)
I was sitting at
My desk today
When a little boy
Turned and walked my way
(v)
Oh he was such
A sight to see
As he stood where he was
And saluted me
(c)
He was all dressed up
In his father's best
With his wings of silver
Pinned upon his chest
And on his head
His father's beret
For today he was crowned the son
Of a Green Beret
(v)
I asked him what
May I do for you
As his tears filled-up
His baby blues
(v)
That's when he quietly
Gave to me
A tear stained letter
For me to read
(c)
He was all dressed up
In his father's best
With his wings of silver
Pinned upon his chest
And on his head
His father's beret
For today he was crowned the son
Of a Green Beret
(v)
My daddy's gone
Sir but you see
His last request
Was that I would be
(v)
A Green Beret
Who would stand the test
And sir I'll try
And do my best
(c)
He was all dressed up
In his father's best
With his wings of silver
Pinned upon his chest
And on his head
His father's beret
For today he was crowned the son
Of a Green Beret
