"But you cant record without spending money. If you wanna buy your own gear, your gonna spend thousands if not more" - Fdemetrio

It’s about priorities Fde. For 10K you can purchase a computer, multi-track software like Logic Pro, audio/midi interface, good mic, samples & more. 10K’s about half the cost of a new car. Funny how musicians have no problem spending 20K on a new car, but think it’s ridiculous to spend half that amount on their passions.

Fd.

Mike's recording for Ricki versus studio would not be discerned by any non professionals and possibly some sound engineers.

Last time you argued this position it was a blanket statement that no recording would be as good as in the studio. Why don't you get ahead of the curve on this one and just go ahead and admit that you are going to be wrong about rock and roll and everything else?

Thanks Marc, kind words from a pro like you means a lot, and you are right, success should never be measured in dollars and cents. The widows mite meant more to God than all the riches put in by wealthy people of that day. It is all in perspective, her two mites was all she had, the wealthy gave out of their abundance and still had plenty left over. We all have God given talents in different things and to different degrees, it is how we use those talents that pleases or displeases God. Thanks again Marc for being you. Encouragement is a scares commodity these days but always appreciated, especially from your peers.

Thanks Dave my friend. We are what we are and it is good to know what we are. Some people strive to be greater than they are just to separate themselves from the rest of us and put them on a self made pedestal. Often money is the tool that they use to do that. Some climb a ladder of success by stomping on others to get there. I try to succeed by doing what is right in God's eyes, not man's eyes. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you is the golden rule that we all should live by. Another good bible rule is don't try removing a speck from your brother's eye until removing the beam in your own eye. Some good teaching in that there book. Too bad most of the world don't even bother to read it, let alone practice it.

The main thing is be yourself and be content with yourself, trying to be someone else or something else can be very frustrating, like that great song said, BE HAPPY. LOL Have a great Christmas and a great New Year.

Oh for sure. And many musicians who THINK they haven't spend money on their hobby would probably be surprised how much they spent. Between lessons, books, dvd's, guitars, amps, guitar strings, software A, Software B, Pre amp A, Pre amp B, Mic A and Mic B, wires, cables, picks, and the biggest investment of all...TIME. Time to learn, time to improve, time to learn how to record and produce, if time were in form of dollars id say Ive invested hundreds of thousands.

I agree, the best thing to do is one shot, lump sum buying everything you need, and not have to add more to it. Most people buy in dribs and drabs, grow bored of what they have and then buy something else.

But dollar for dollar in the long run if you write alot, you should invest in your own stuff, and your own education.

Sounds very good, sounds like a very good demo, compared to something on the radio, please, take the wax out of your ears.

Wait a minute Ray, how is saying something sounds very good and a very good demo an insult?

I dont know how much money Ricki paid for her demo, probably less than 100 bucks? No idea...

What do you think Sean Mendez or Ed Sheeran spent on their latest single?

That's all that was said...EVER.

No insult was ever made, but insults were taken, because people want band in the box to be what they want it to be.

and I see it's still a source of tension.
