Hey there JPFrs everywhere. I've been gone for a while, taking a breather, dealing with life in general and trying to write some new music although that last thing seems to be getting harder and harder. :/ One of the latest songs I've written is this one. I can't believe how much life Mike brought to my boring old g/v. Comments are welcome but I'm mostly just sharing. Pop is not my usual style...I was going for a Shawn Mendes/Charlie Puth vibe. Take a listen here: https://soundcloud.com/rickib/lossLOSS (It's Like That) RICKI E. BELLOS You’re hanging with your friends Your heart’s not listening To the tunes that can’t undo That empty seat next to you Yeah, it’s like that No picture in that frame Stirs a feeling you can’t name A hunger that you get And can’t admit to yet Oh, it’s like that Every moment you’re awake In the dreams that make you shake And shiver through the night With no strength to fight Yeah, it’s like that From the corner of your eye Trick of shadows and light There she goes, it’s the ghost Of who you need the most Oh, it’s like that Every moment you’re awake In the dreams that make you shake And shiver through the night With no strength to fight Being nowhere Is everywhere you are It’s like that Every moment you’re awake In the dreams that make you shake And shiver through the night With no strength to fight It’s like that Every moment you’re awake In the dreams that make you shake And shiver through the night With no strength to fight It’s like that (Loss) X3 © Ricki E. Hi Rikki:
So good to see you posting again. Mike climbed the Empire State Building for you on this one... but always remember, you are the creator of what I believe is a great song. Enjoyed every line and musical nuance of "LOSS" and I expect you are going to have artists, labels and producers knocking on your door real soon.
Reminds me... I need to give that exceptional vocalist/musicator out west,,, a call or E-mail.
As always, best wishes for success... and welcome home. ----Dave

Hi Rikki,
I really love this song and the vocals from Mike are so 21st century. The arrangement, production, melody and vocal delivery sounds so trendy(hope I said that right) - but much better than what is out there today.
I hope you have some success with this because this deserves it.
Jane

Thanks, Vic. In this world of short attention spans, staying to the end is a good thing. Of course, the song is only 2:40... Ricki

This song is well-conceived and nicely executed. From start to finish, it has a cool, insistent groove, the lyrics are strong and evocative, and the singer, Mike, turned in a splendid vocal. This is a gem. I played it three times. With each listen, I appreciated the craftsmanship a bit more. Great stuff.

Hi Ricki, I'll add my vote, very well written and done. If you want to give it a little more time in the play, throw in an Instrumental break before the last chorus but it's great as it is. Good luck.

Ricki,
Terrific write—love the bridge, sweet line. Mike works his magic, stellar production and compelling vocals. When you come back, you come back in style. Good to see you back in the board

Wow, haven't heard anything like this on this forum. It sounds like a modern pop song but with a classic core. Short catchy hook
Great groove. id say 99% of the time on here i can tell how a song was written...ie lyric first or melody first.
Not quite sure on this one, if it was lyric first, then whoever wrote the melody really took it to a great place.
Towards the end, two things i woulda like to have heard different. The part where the woman's voice comes in and says "it's like thaaaa attt" 2:14 that note bluesy, would have made for a great guitar solo, bending to that note, a bit of a dissonant solo for a measure or two i think would have been a nice addition. fading out with a solo as opposed to the riffing vocals at the very end it becomes more a of a crosby, stills and nash thing than a pop song. Might be too much, but that's just my ears
Its really really good, not something you're gonna hear here very often. Great work!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Fdemetrio. I have written songs lyrics first and music first. More often they're coming at me simultaneously, like with this song.
As for the end, not being a performer, I don't write with a musical solo in mind. I'm trying to attract a singer so the lyrics are more important to me. If someone likes the song, they can add whatever musical solos they like.
With regards to the woman's voice...that's all Mike and his riffing at the end is just what I thought the song needed so that's what he gave me. Glad you liked it

Ricki Thats what it sounds like simultaneous. Its sometimes the best way because nither the melody nor the lyric would probably have existed on their own. Not unless the idea of stating the hook, and then busting into the chorus suddenly after was musical thought out. It's good, I just thought there were some conflicting styles, all good, but maybe not making the song one thing or another.

Well.........I really like the lyric content here and the performance is on point. I liked the lyric so much that I almost wanted to not listen and come up with music for it.......maybe send it to you and see what you thought.....but, I broke down and listened and can tell you I'm not even gonna try doing better than what I just heard. I do feel as though a few lines were a bit squeezed for time, but man.....nicely done all around.

Hey Rikki,
Its good seeing you on the board! Loved this song. The lyrics actually reminded me of something Edie Brickell would have done and performed with Michael Franks back in the mid-80's. I can see why Mac would love this too, as this jazzy vibe is right in his wheel-house. Mike, great job with this production--you have a gift for matching music with lyrics for sure. Nice work Rikki, no nits from me, just enjoyed the listen so much that I had no desire to be objective anyway.......that's what's great about music that we enjoy, we just feel it and get into it.

Thanks Eddie, glad you enjoyed it. Mike did a great job turning my g/v into this masterpiece. I'm not hearing the Edie Brickell connection but hey, it's all good. Thanks for listening.

Nicely done, you 2. As far as I my ears, it fits right with the boy band pop songs, with even better production. Love the spacing in the sound scape and the little morsels through out, like the harmonies and the strings. The percussions here, carries the day.
The dynamic duo strikes again, eh?
