Hi all I wrote this a while ago but had another look and a re-write at it,

Nashville Don't Do Country Anymore

I first heard real country sittin’ by my daddy’s side
Bouncin’ in his pickup as we went for a ride
With Johnny Buck ‘n Lefty he’d belt ‘em out real strong
Somethin’ bout that music made you want to sing along

Why won’t Nashville do real country anymore----------------------- {Chorus
Don’t know what to call it but it makes my eardrums sore
I’d heard of oxymorons well now I'll name a few
There’s country pop ‘n country rap ‘n country hip hop too
Have thoughts of fame ‘n riches turned our lady to a whore
Nashville don't do country anymore

I still remember mama singin’ to Loretta Lynn
Doin’ duets with ol’ Conway bout the mess that they’d got in
Or on a Sunday mornin’ getting’ ready for the call
“Rugged Cross ‘n “What A Friend” I swear she knew ‘em all

Why won’t Nashville do real country anymore----------------------- {Chorus
Don’t know what to call it but it makes my eardrums sore
I’d heard of oxymorons well now I'll name a few
There’s country pop ‘n country rap ‘n country hip hop too
Have thoughts of fame ‘n riches turned our lady to a whore
Nashville don't do country anymore

I don't like what's out there I really must confess--------------- {Bridge
Think I'll load my pickup truck and move out to Texas

Why won’t Nashville do real country anymore----------------------- {Chorus
Don’t know what to call it but it makes my eardrums sore
I’d heard of oxymorons well now I'll name a few
There’s country pop ‘n country rap ‘n country hip hop too
Have thoughts of fame ‘n riches turned our lady to a whore
Nashville don't do country anymore

Lol... Careful John, I don’t know if you’re aware, but there’s only two types of country music now... modern "progressive country", and old "racist country". Don’t you realize that if you’re not progressive then you’re a racist? And "phobic"? smile

Hi Japov,
Thanks for the visit. Once upon a time I wrote a song called titled PC PC that expresses my feelings perfectly on this issue. This song will never see airplay, probably never have any music or anyone but me singing it but it's one of those "I had to write" songs. Once upon a time I was going to produce a CD of all my politically incorrect songs but ran out of time and money. I definitely have written enough and have almost demoed enough. I will definitely never be a progressive.

But if what you're saying is really true, how do you explain how Ray Charles took many traditional country songs and made them his own, and chart-topping traditionalist Charley Pride? And lest not forget the Pointer Sisters brief flirtation with country when they did "Fairytale".

This song though would make a good followup to this one which was done by quite a few artists.

But pop/country blending is nothing new by any means. Think Patsy Cline as one of the best examples. And in the late 60s there was a trend called Countrypolitan with the likes of Glen Campbell and kicked off with the Nancy Sinatra classic, "These Boots are Made for Walking".

Hi Guys,
The Pointer Sisters, and Ray Charles, and let's not forget Charley Pride, were not doing "Play Chicken With The Train", or some of the Rap/ Hip-Hop garbage that has been done and somehow been tied to the country name. I don't know how to say it any plainer, but, "That Ain't Country"! You sure can't tie Patsy Cline and Glen Campbell in with them. The really interesting thing is, when some of the newer pop/country artists put out a traditional sounding song, it usually sells like hotcakes, and nobody seems to see that, especially the publishers and producers. And when the Taylor Swift's and the like make it with crossovers they seem to forget how they got there.

Hi Lane,
Good to see you visiting.JAPOV is just voicing the fact that so many have gone PC that people are afraid to say anything for fear of getting labeled something they are not. For me, I don't care. I know what I am and it ain't bad.

P.C, P.C.

Why is everyone afraid
To say what’s on their mind
I’m tired of all this PC crap
I think it’s about time
To stop all our worryin’
‘Bout who we might offend
And talk about our troubles
We could start a trend

P.C., P.C. ---------------------------------} Chorus
Why can’t you let me be
P.C., P.C.
It’s time to set us free
P.C., P.C.
You’re ruinin’ it all
P.C., P.C.
It’s time to take a fall

Someone lost their job because
Of meenie minie mo
I think this way of thinkin’
Is what really needs to go
Let’s call Christmas, Christmas
And patriotics fine
We don’t need any Spanish
On our highway signs

P.C., P.C. ---------------------------------} Chorus
Why can’t you let me be
P.C., P.C.
It’s time to set us free
P.C., P.C.
You’re ruinin’ it all
P.C., P.C.
It’s time to take a fall

I’m really tired of tiptoin’--------------} Bridge
Around what is the truth
I’m gonna say what I think
Is best for me and you

P.C., P.C. ---------------------------------} Chorus
Why can’t you let me be
P.C., P.C.
It’s time to set us free
P.C., P.C.
You’re ruinin’ it all
P.C., P.C.
It’s time to take a fall

Jon,
Nice discussions here. Lot of points well made. Love your line about loading up the truck and moving to Texas. Willie Nelson with all his talent could not make it in Nashville though he did a lot of albums and had backing. It wasn’t until he moved back to Texas that his career as a singer took off.

Hi CT,
Thanks for dropping by, and the nice comments. A song like this will never be published. The only way to get it out would be an outlaw indie artist and I'm not around anymore to meet them. Funny you mention Willie, I don't agree with some of his politican but I my voice has been compared to his many times and I even got offered a job doing his songs on the road by a real agent. I don't think I really sound like him but I do phrase like him, even if I don't sing behind the beat.

Hi CT,
You won't find anything on my sites that sounds like Willie, you can only hear that if you see me out singing Karaoke but You'll have to come to Saipan for that.
