Do any of you have days when everything sounds like crap to you? I'm having one of those days. Everything I've composed / performed sounds like crap to me today. I reckon it's just a crappy day. My ears have crap extensions. Crappy John

You should never have downloaded that Crap App!
Everything is crap to-day No note I wouldn't flush away Nothing's worth a listen When I'm in this condition Have to wipe away dismay And toil-at this another day!

Hi John
Your lucky to only have one day where everything sounds like crap. How about everyday?
One of my New Year's resolutions will be to give it all up and take up tennis or golf or something other than music.
The problem is I most likely will come back to songwriting; it is a drug!
John - it will be better tomorrow for you I know it will - you have achieved so much and have a lot to look forward to.

I did manage to compose a tango yesterday. I watched "Green Book" last night. What a great and inspiring movie. I highly recommend it for getting out of the doldrums. Best, John

Well John, Mozart didn't have that problem. However to be fair he didn't have all those works to listen to you have. He had to compose them first! So, don't analize the damned thing, just compose it! If I only had a tenth of Mozart's talent......

Mozart Ray? By today's definition, he would be classified with personality & bipolar disorders. The last years of his life was full of depressions. And who knows, maybe it's my last years, thus, the start of crappy days. . Mozart was influenced by Haydn, Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Gluck, and more. John

Thanks John - Green Book sounds like a great movie - I love classical piano music - Wish it was on Netflix though It was based on Don Shirley's life. He was a great classical & jazz pianist. The two main actors were a perfect fit. A definite feel-good movie. John

Keep your chin up, John:
It happens to most of us. I can spend hours re-recording a song (or re-writing, then re-recording)... and it sounds pretty good during the live action... but later, when transferred to a CD... you guessed it... CRAP!
Wow, Don Shirley had to be quite a talent... able to transition between classical and jazz. Many classical folks never make that leap... and I don't mean to be critical about those people.
New day tomorrow, the sun might actually shine... and our early Winter might fade for a week or two (or not) and allow us to have Autumn. (Without the colorful leaves... already blown away!)
----Dave

We had our first snow yesterday, not much in my area, an inch at most, but some areas of the province had close to a foot. I hate winter, use to like it when younger but not now.

We all have days like that, John. It's maybe a bit like that old thing about how everybody squirms at the sound of their own voice, when they hear a recording of it. I hope your music sounds as good to you today as it does to everyone else

Humm, I don't know for sure but I would guess Mozart was most influenced by his father Leopold Mozart, 1719-1787 who was also a composer. Have you ever heard the TOY SYMPHONY by Leopold Mozart???

Yes, I've heard most of what Mozart composed when I was studying piano. It's difficult for me to listen to Mozart & Haydn these days. I remember one of my teacher's told me once, "if you heard one of Haydn's symphonies, you heard them all". Yeah, over a hundred that are very similar. Mozart's a step up, but I still have a problem listening to that era of music. Best, John

There's a new Song for you in this experience, more profound in the usual level of doubt and uncertainty about something near and dear to the very fiber of your being. Here's a Lyric for it:
It's One Of Those Days
It's One Of Those Days, when nothing seems to work. Every time I turn around life's giving me a jerk. I feel like the foolish character in some madman's play. It's One Of Those Days.
It's One Of Those Days, when my head fills with doubt. Every confidence I have somebody calls it out. I'm falling down from my pedestal, falling on my face. It's One Of Those Days.
Your smile unlocks the mystery. Suddenly it's mine. My face finds it disagrees, with what's on my mind. You wash all my worrying away. It's One Of Those Days.
It's One Of Those Days, the world turns inside out. I wonder what I'm doing, what it's all about. Then you come and shine your loving light, chase my darkness away. It's One Of Those Days. It's One Of Those Days.
There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com

Too much philosophy in two Verses, before I got to the Love-Interest Character. That second Verse simply repeated the ideas of a bad day without adding much to the storyline. Here's another arrangement of Verse/Bridge, Verse/Bridge, simplified, with the Refrain-Type Chorus, the title, THE Hook, dominating. A brief instrumental Bridge could come between Verse II and the final giving of the Bridge/Chorus-Refrain.

Well, When I have one of those days I usually look to see what Sign the Moon is in. Not that it helps a helliva lot. However it has reminded me of a song by Johnny Cash. BAD NEWS. I need to see if it is on youtube. Geronimo!

Consider yourself lucky. I get to conflate all of those internal disturbances with residential contractor interactions every day. I'm thinking of having some tee shirts printed which say in large block letters...
"WE BOTH KNOW YOU"RE LYING"
and then underneath that in small script
"so let's skip forward from that and get to the part where you make it right"
and in still smaller print...
"then we talk about payment"
