Seeds of vain esteem Fill a field of confusion Empty promises of rain Never yield a solution
Where intentions are self serving Truth will never grow When your premise is a lie You reap what you sow
Self-indulgent pride Is given to delusion Even the devil knows You suffer one conclusion

I was just thinking the same thing. Have heard that if you sow good, you will reap good. And if you sow evil you will reap that too. But yet bad things do happen even to those who spend their lives doing good. This classic song is a prime example. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=abraham+martin+and+john+dion+original
