------> Dream About You

This is a song Diana and I wrote and recorded way back in 2013. We're thinking about redoing it with a few changes. Here's what we're thinking:

Slow it down about 6 or 8 bpm
Replace the banjo intro with either a uke, mandolin or mondola
Cut the intro to just 6 bars, rather than 10
Bring the lead guitar a bit more forward in the mix for the instrumental break

We'd love to hear your thoughts/suggestions. Hope you enjoy it as is, for now. Thanks in advance.

Also, I (Alan) will be over to do some more listening & reviewing as the week unfolds. Diana has a litany of medical appointments today & tomorrow..

Dream About You

(c) 2013 Alan D. David, BMI / Diana Bowers, BMI

My heart's been broken a hundred times I know
All bruised up from hurting and tired of feeling low
Seems it's always staying when it's time for letting go
It had almost healed itself from the last love gone so wrong
Then you smiled at me that way and the feelng came on strng
Now you got me all mixed up, why did you have to come along

I dream about you every night
I know that I can't win this fight
Worried if my heart will make it through
I dream about you every day
Should I run or should I stay
I'm so mixed up I still don't have a clue
But if I go sleep I know just what I'll do
I'll dream about you
But I don't want to

I don't want to fall in love again
Cuz I know how it will always end
My heart can't take another break
It might already be too late

I tell my heart forget you, move on and let you be
Cuz you're no one special, just another misery
Can't let your smile provoke me, it's just another fantasy
Now I have to tell myself, believe what I just said
Drive those silly notions right out of my poor head
But I'd be lying to myself, so what I'll do instead....is

Morning Alan and Diana:

I could imagine Taylor Swift "charting" again with your "Dream About You!" Nicely written and well performed, my friends. I hope you manage to break though the "moat and keep" of her Castle of Defenders. Your song has all the elements we usually expect when she performs.

Best of luck, you two!

Two Singers

First, I think you have a great canvas to work with here, and yeah the banjo is a bit incongruous to the music vibe going on--my opinion and my ear's reaction. I actually think what would be cool with this production would be acoustic rhythem guitar for the rhythm bed or piano/ keep your lead guitar riffs, but shorten the lead solo a bit--this is a pop song not a heavy rock song where a longer solo break is needed--JMO. I'd also like to see some brass coming in gradually then heavy just past the middle giving you some great answers. Here is a link to reference my production thought with the brass: https://youtu.be/N8uhuytWkGQ (right click link and click on "open link if not high-lighted)" This is just an "idea," just food for thought, and the link song, "Simply the best" cover of the Tina Turner is the song--but listen to how the brass works with the pop song, and not saying your song needs to be as "busy."

You have a good one here, and a lot of options to make it better, even if just making some small production changes as you mentioned. Enjoyed this!

Hi Alan,

A really good song for Taylor Swift, I think.

I think the banjo is playing the most "hookish" riff in the whole song and it would be a mistake to eliminate it.

If the banjo is underlined in green, in BIAB, that means you can create parallel midi tracks to use with virtual instruments. My suggestion would be to re-enforce the banjo's cool playing with perhaps hi-hats (in some parts) and another music part playing either in unison or harmonizing.

It's an unusual style for the banjo as well, almost an "electronica" vibe that doesn't clash with the band, to me, but gives it some depth, as otherwise I am hearing nicely performed but totally "background" kinda tracks.

Also, I think if the chords "washed over" the song more it would help the song. Like a highly compressed synth "pad" perhaps playing the same chordal material as the piano.

I would save the "backbeat" drums for the later choruses, but use the initial verse banjo riffs (midi transposed for drums) to create a more interesting and spare drum sound.

I would also consider thinning out the sound a little, helping put the focus more on the vocals, and then if the singer could go "smaller" and tighter rhythmically in the verses.

It's a great song, one that could get some attention with the right presentation, I think..these are just my thoughts as a "producer" as I listened on a loop this morning..
