A new song I wrote - Americana/Country/Rock - Thanks so much JP folks for your support in my musical endeavors. Production by Mike Zaneski Vocals/Piano - Jane Karwoski Vocal Harmonies - Mike Zaneski Lyrics/Melody - Jane Karwoski Long Way Home Verse He’s been traveling way too long Driving his rig on the open road Missing his wife and children Talking on the phone is Not the same as being home Tears fill his eyes As he drives past hills and fields Scenes full of grass and trees Beautiful as it seems These things will never fill his dreams Chorus It’s a long way home But it’s worth the wait To see happy faces at his front gate Puts a smile on his ruddy face Even though he knows It’s a long way home Verse Rundown cafes and stale bread He’s tired and he needs to be fed Tries to sleep but the same old songs Are going through his head His back is sore from sleeping in his cab Tells himself his job isn’t that bad It brings him joy when his children play with the toys That he works so hard to give them Chorus It’s a long way home But it’s worth the wait To see happy faces at his front gate Puts a smile on his ruddy face Even though he knows It’s a long way home Bridge Now he’s coming to the road The road that leads to home His haul is over for the week Even though work never ends He's grateful to be home again Repeat chorus Copyright 2019 Jane Karwoski Words/Music https://soundcloud.com/user-296863402/long-way-home-final-v11-wav

Nice treatment of a great subject. One I can relate to from an earlier period of my life. Your voice has a really honest, engaging quality about it that draws me in. On the first listen, these lines seemed a little hurried, a lot to fit in. It brings him joy when his children play with the toys That he works so hard to give them It didn't seem so pronounced the second time I listened, but I wonder if it might fit better if you just omitted the first words of that first line... The joy when his children play with the toys That he works so hard to give them Just a suggestion

AL, Dave, Roy, Gavin, Guy, Bob, and Deej,
Thanks, all..
It's really meaningful work..producer/arranging Jane's songs. Her wheelhouse and mine align quite nicely and her lyrics and singing make me feel stuff, and that really helps to create a path for me to follow..
Gavin, I did notice some wordiness in the "it brings him joy" couplet, and we're looking at that right now.
Deej, thanks as always, and we're looking at that.
Thanks again, all..
Mike

I love a tasty hook sandwich like this chorus Well written both lyrically and musically. I like that the arrangement isn't cookie-cutter - plenty of interesting turns in the road. I thought that maybe the first verse could be a little sparser - to give it more room to build - but that's down to taste I suppose. Nice work you guys Paul

Marty, Lane, Paul, and Niteshift.. Thanks, guys..it's a pleasure working on Jane's songs. She marries the music to the lyrics in a unique way and I find it inspiring. Mike
